Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. | An open appeal Hello, all Layoplayers,
I am trying to collect odds and ends that capture the "feel" of Layonara. If you have any short (emphasis on short!) anecdotes to relate from your character's perspective, any heroic (or amusing, or significant) quotes from you or your companions, or any little bit of flavor that you've come up with (short poems, songs, snippets of religious text, etc), please reply to this thread or send an email to me with "Layonara" somewhere in the subject line so my spam filters don't weed you out. I figured that this would be the right forum to open this topic up, so send in your submissions!
(to allay any fears: Yes, you retain all rights to whatever you submit as long as you actually created it, and you will receive credit for it.)
(to rile up fears: Please make sure your submission is quality; that is, spellcheck it and be completely sure that it contributes positively to the aforementioned "flavor" of Layonara. I retain all rights to discard or edit submissions, though I will make sure that I check back with you if I edit your submissions in any substantial, more-than-proofreading way.)

Kirianna Mendelar In every Inn and Tavern you can hear our tale.
You sit there and listen while sipping your ale.
We sing of epic victories.
And of tremendous tragadies.
We sing of love, so kind and so pure.
We sing of hatred and evil, so dark and demure.
I have sung of the brave halfling with the stunning steel. (Lyta Winterwound)
And of the Monk so quick and fleet, even the wind cannot feel. (Xiao)
The Man Cat whose pride is too large to get around. (Jhereg)
And the Dwarf, Flaming Axe in hand who never would back down. (Gotak)
Our songs can inspire many women and men,
But who will sing of the Bard at days end?
I shall fade into dust and be gone.
But the memory of my song shall alwayse live on. "

*Andraia cradles young Tom in her arms as he lets go of his emotions and cries* Your young eyes have seen much torment and pain.
Let all your suffering wash away in your tears.
Once the tears are gone happiness and joy shall remian.
From this day forth thru the rest of your years.

| RE: An open appeal Quin's prayer to Toran
"As Toran is my strength, I am his blade"
Ashley Windsong's many quotes -
"Oh Ambryn! You know I have eyes only for you *looks to his side* Oh, hello miss, you certainly look lovely today"
"Hello ladies ... oh, wait ... just one lady and an elf sir. Sorry 'bout that"
"I've been making advances on every lady in town and I haven't been slapped once! I'm almost insulted!"
*While helping Ambryn climb up to the pond in Haven by pulling her up as she refused to let me help boost her up* "Up your skirt or down your shirt, doesn't matter to me"
"Yes, I'm a musician, but because of my lack of instrument, I am more a poet with a stick. Y'know ... maybe if I tied a string to the stick ..."
*With a longbow in hand* "Yeah, the string and stick idea doesn't work so well"
"How did I know? A little bard told me."
"I've not met a woman that could keep me away!"
"If Humans are worhty of redemption, then an elf like you should be a shoe-in"
*while offering to make a dress for someone* "A few more ales and it won't matter if I'm a man, a woman, or a gnoll"
"Just think of us bards as Liars with Lyres"
"Excuse me miss, your dress looks like it's on a bit tight, mind if I loosen it up for you?"

| RE: An open appeal The little boy, Tom, is talking to the amiable bard Ashley Windsong, the discussion which is about entertainment since Ashley has been asking if Tom would like to learn to play the pipes (to which Tom replies he much prefers the drums and trumpet). Tom begins to explain the reason for his liking of the drums, to Ashleys dismay... (have deleted toms usual nervous stammer from the text, Ashleys is very much on purpose ). Its a comic little anecdote, but it also underlines the trajedy that Layonara can hold (at least in this case, that of little Tom's background).
Tom - Oh, I like the Hangins
Ashley - Oh? Why... exactly... is that?
Tom - Well, is fun... they lead 'em up an they tie the rope... 13 turns yer know
Ashley -...
Tom - an push him onter the stage, an stand him on the bench... an pput the rope on him...
then they read out his crimes...
Tom - an the crowd go "Oooh!" an "Aaaah!"
Tom - When they say what he did... an they say he is condemned to death
Tom - an... then the drum roll Trtrtrtrtrtrrrr Thump!
*Tom hangs his head and lets his tongue roll out*
Tom - ... an everyone cheers!
Ashley - *stands silently* ... you know... there are... better ways to... be entertained...
Tom - is lotsa fun
Ashley - there are lots of things out there... that don't... involve... people dieing...
Tom - oh... well every bad man they hang... there's one less ter hurt me
Ashley - *thinks about that* I... suppose so...
Tom - I knew some who got hanged too... good days them was
Tom - I watched 'em to make sure
Ashley - err... Tom... do you mind if we... don't talk about this anymore?

| RE: An open appeal Lol, Lonnarin loves them chickens. On the previous server we tamed a flock of them from the evil town and ferried them across the server through ogres, giants, werewolves and all kinds of nasties, just so that Aleister wouldn't have to pay 52gp an eggshell for a bigbys. Ever free range chickens? wee 4hp little buggers who explode if you sneeze on them. We had em stoneskinned, invisible, ethereal, you name it. I've never seen a bird with so many magical enhancements. Then people would forget and declare a charge and they'd flock to the frontline into certain doom. Reminded me of playing oldschool Lemmings.
Nowadays he's become an animal right activist.
Lon- *runs out to a group of adventurers in Hlint* "excuse me, ye mind signing this petition?"
- "huh? whats it for?"
Lon- "fer tha equal rights of livestock, of course! The oxen are stagin a sit-in on the courthouse!"
-*adventurers look up and see 3 oxen on the balcony, inside there are a few sitting near the main chairs of the courthouse* (animal empathy luring is so fun!)
"oi! what tha bloody beef do they want?"
Lon- "Equal voting rights, freedom from the grill, 40 hour workweeks with overtime pay and a cut of the ore they lug fer some new shiny bells!"
Surley Dwarf- "Bah! next ye be tellin us the chickens want to be set loose in the wild too!"
Lon- "Naw, they're content with laying the eggs in exchange fer feed. Fairly domesticated mother-cluckers them chickens. They just want their own house instead of those wee pens."
SD- "WHA?! Why in tarnations would chickens need a house?!"
Lon- "Roomier. They're getting tired of being 'cooped up' all tha time!"
