| Roleplaying Discuss tips, resources, and concerns with roleplay both inside and outside the Layonara community. | | Welcome to the Layonara forums!
Layonara is so much more than a game. We started off as a tabletop Dungeons and Dragons campaign more than a decade ago. Since then we have developed into a fantasy world with as much compelling and engrossing detail as you will find anywhere.
Our current showcase is a Neverwinter Nights version of Layonara, where our world comes to life in a finely polished persistent world which you can play free of charge. These forums are set up to support and accentuate our player's experiences, but it goes far beyond that.
After years of passionate effort, our world is so well developed, so detailed, so refined that any of the handbooks, maps, historical accounts, legends, descriptions of artifacts, creature reports, character biographies, short stories, novels, movies and original art which populate these forums can surely serve as resources or inspiration for your own fantasy endeavors, whatever they may be. And our world is endlessly evolving, so resources are frequently added and updated.
There are also years of sage advice and commentary on role-playing, gaming and online community development stored in these forums. If camaraderie is what you seek, we offer that too. Our community is as active and supportive as you're likely to find on the internet. In short, these forums are a resource for you to use for whatever purpose or project brought you here.
We're confident that you will find what you are looking for, and likely, substantially more.
Please be our guest and browse around the forums which are available to you. As you do, keep in mind that you are sampling only a portion of what Layonara has to offer. Membership in our community is free, and allows you to establish a Layonara identity to pose your questions and share your thoughts on the forums. When you join you'll also be able to communicate privately to other members (PMs), establish and respond to polls, upload and download content and access many other special features. | RE: Leveling People usually ask me seasons as if they are years, and that works. Wish we could have like a birthday and everyone's ages goes up one.

| RE: Leveling Then Matilda went from 17 to 29 in less than a month. Don't know about that. If we had very slow, progressive leveling, it would be. But, its more like a skyrocket, down time, skyrocket, down time. Eh. That doesn't make much sense. | | |

| RE: Leveling too bad we didn't understand the seasons for Layo better. Like wouldn't it be cool if it snowed sometimes in Hlint? or that the seasons were more pronounced? that would be cool

| RE: Leveling I'm not a huge fan of using the term seasons. Then again I hate the CR sheet. If you are much higher level and want people to know it - it should come out in abstract pragraph form, as in, let me tell you a tale of the day I defeated the ancient lich of....
It works for lower levels too. I mean, what the heck are seasons and why are they asking me my age like that? Hrm... 548 I think? But the there are no seasons in the deep dark from where I come... I usually mess with people asking me that - sorry, it's not that I'm mean or dislike you - just don't understand the necessity for it. As far as leveling goes - it can be as simple as telling your party that you need to stop and think on things. I mean, that could mean you leveled or need to go talk to your lawyer - quite honestly - does it matter? And if you have buddies you like and want to shout out to them about making lvl 13 because it was such a haul - by all means send a pm if you guys like doing that. Btu I know a lot of people that just don't want to hear about tnl or lvls. Anyhow - find something you like, and do it. Unless it is cleaving noobs heads.

| RE: Leveling I try not to talk about leveling in game, like party talk or just talking. Its not really RP to talk about it.
If I am going to level I tell the party leader that I have leveled and I need time to take spells (in a Tell).
I RP learning new spells and feeling stronger then before.

| RE: Leveling There really isn't an IC reason to tell another player what level you are, as they can gauge you comparative level by examining you (right click, and then click the eye thingie)
The only real reason anyone may need to know your level is if they want to know if you meet the level restriction for an item, and usually they would then ask OOC.

| RE: Leveling speaking of levels is for sure where many new players struggle. It is actually easiest to simply not talk of them at all. There are no levels in RL when playing sport are there?... the point to make really is that as your character gains experience you can RP that in general conversation quite effectively - your character has seen more combat, and so he can give better advice, and make his feelings of what can/cant be done easily better known. | | |

| RE: Leveling Another way of doing it would be to speak in terms of what spells/skills you've learned. Instead of refering to "level 10", you can say you now know how to {insert appropriate skill or spell learned at that level by that class here}.
I'd also try not to use the newly used ability until I could get back to town and RP that I've learned it somewhere, but I digress.

I am a bit green, but I know how to hold my blade pretty well.

| RE: Leveling Something kind of off topic, but I should be able to take up a prc when I level this time if the DM's let me. I was given some names of people that are that class so do I need to seek them out and ask for training before I can level up in that class? Or can just level up? | | |

| RE: Leveling  First, you must have an RP reason for wanting to take a PrC. They are there to show that your character has trained hard to reach a special level of a certain ability.
Second, you must resubmitt your characters Bio including the new information that will allow him/her to take the PrC levels. If it's approved then you are good to go.
It's usually a good idea to starting keeping a journal about the PrC (ie: learning how to sneak better for shadow dancer, learning more about necromancy for a pale master) for a few weeks before you intend to take the levels. Then resubmit your bio with a link to the journal and that will give the GMs more of a reason to approve you. Either way you must get reapproved before you can level in a PrC.
