Spontaneous Light Emission
« on: September 08, 2007, 05:12:58 pm »
Is there any reason that purple balls of light should spontaneously begin flowing from a character's left fist when she walks or runs?

Playing a Monk, I'm used to seeing light come out of weird places, but this one is bizarre.

Let me put this into context.  There I was, walking Jennara along, thinking of getting some pears, checking out the new look of the Ore Hills, when I needed to stop long enough to keep some ogrillons from getting too fresh.  Afterward, I started moving again and found purple balls of light falling out of her.  I thought maybe it was some weird effect marker I'd never seen before and didn't get an icon for, but the character sheet looked normal and a rest didn't fix it.

I sent a message to the DM channel, thinking maybe Shadon was playing a joke on Jennara, but got no response.  Then I was going to ask if anyone else was seeing weird things, but the server was empty except for me.

So I ran around some and watched, and noticed the light balls fell specifically from her left hand.  So now I'm thinking she's contracted some sort of horrible magical disease from poking an ogrillon in the wrong place.  Woe be to the weaponless!

I'm guessing this is just some strange glitch that will go away when I log out or the server is reset, but it's a really weird glitch with a coincidental starting point that makes it seem significant in some hazy, indistinct, pseudoscientific way, heh.

Update!

It seems the cure to the horrid Ogrillon Hand Twinkles is a flying high kick to a mountain giant's nethers.  Add that to the notes in your first aid kit.

Graphic glitches are fun!

It could be the disembodied souls of all the creatures you killed, haunting your hands with ectoplasm.  Kind of like Ghostbusters meets Macbeth.

My deep gnome monk gets the same thing sometimes.. but it comes from his feet, with no noticable preferance for right or left, kind of in the middle.

I noticed, with the monks I've played both in Layo and elsewhere, that a Stunning Fist will sometimes do that. I've noticed it most often when the Stunning Fist misses, but... *Shrugs.*

It's definitely linked to Stunning Fist.

... lol, um ... it's a result of your Ki Strike feat. It's one of those things that's hardly mentioned anywhere, but whenever you strike (after getting the feat) light begins to appear dependent on alignment I think. Your character is likely Lawful Neutral because it's purple. No one else can see this effect on your character but you, also in the same way you'll never see the effect on anyone else. It's just a minor goody. :p

Jennara is Lawful Good, and her Ki Fisties are blue.  Since Ogrillon Hand Twinkles are purple, it doesn't match, and that's why it was odd, heh.

Lawful Good = Blue
Lawful Neutral = Purple
Lawful Evil = Red

Yeah, Gulnyr was saying he knew about the Ki Strike lights. For example, from the first post - "Playing a Monk, I'm used to seeing light come out of weird places, but this one is bizarre."

Her Ki Strike lights are blue, because she is LG. However, the odd graphic business that had never occurred for him before (dubbed the Ogrillon Hand Twinkles), were purple, and didn't seem the same as the ones from Ki Strike. :)

Ho humm... I remember forever ago playing a monk on a different server and gettin those... never understood how... but in any case treat them as a special gift instead of a disease contracted by dumb, overgrown hunchbacks :)

I've experienced this "feature" before, in single player, multiplayer on two different servers, and this server.

It has to do with Stunning Fist; most often when the Stunning Fist misses, though not all the time when it misses. And sometimes when it hits.

These were low-level monks; nothing to do with Ki Strike.

    :)

Pfft. *Shrugs* :p It's no big deal either way ... just some weird Bioware minor goody.

    Hello!

This thread was originally much more about amusement than about concern.  The discussion seemed to go way too serious some time after the 27th of September.  If serious is what you want, have at, no big deal, though I recommend trying some of the more frivolous imagination now and then.

Ogrillon Hand Twinkles?  Disembodied souls of the slain?  Maybe it was the vengeful spirit of the blackberry pie crushed by an ogrillon claiming the fist for its own revenge upon the overly tall...

    Sorry; I don't really try to be a joy-killer.

I'm pretty certain that it's a bug that makes you leak Monk Juice.

Wonder if you could bottle that....
