A few beginner questions, if you have a moment...

I'm just getting started after a "false start" a few months back, and have a few questions that I couldn't find an answer to in LORE or the forums:

I'm in Port Hempstead (I think that's the name)...

1. How can I customize the look of my armor\\clothes? Do I need the craft armor skill to change the colors, for example?

2. What can I use rat skins for? Can I sell them? Or make something from them?

3. As a starting PC, where can I make a little money...not a lot, just enough to supply me with healing potions and the like?

Any other beginner tips would be useful.

(I plan to find a group when I can, but for now I'm on my own.)

Welcome! (Again)

1. Armor can be customized at the customization looms and forges, in the crafting halls. In Port Hempstead, this is in the Tribute to Allurial area. Complicated changes require higher DCs, but don't put skill points into craft armor. You can find items that give craft armor bonuses, such as rings, and wear these, or just keep trying until you get a lucky roll.

2. Rat skins can be tailored (tanned and oiled into leather), but aren't good for much except practice, at least that I know of. However, Layonara pawn merchants seem happy to buy just about anything even if only for a gold piece!

3. Many characters find work gathering items like mushrooms or skeleton knuckles and selling them to other characters, or gathering items and selling them to pawn shops. Completing the mini quests that NPCs give you will also often result in a little coin in your pockets. And there are also in game gambling opportunities, such as a card game, where you can wager gold on the game.

crafter skills in the skills point allocation.. If i remember correctly thats useless to put in there that has more to do with the single player modules of NWN. But wait on for someone else to confirm or deny this

Yes, this is my understanding too, Hellblazer. Even if they did give a bonus, that isn't where I would put my skill points. I think it would be much better to find or borrow an item that gives a bonus to modifying armor, or ask another PC to help you if you are having trouble. There is one ring in particular that I am thinking of that gives such a bonus and it is fairly common in the game, so you should be able to find one of those.

The crafting skills only helps you if you are customizing your armor/weapon. It has nothing to do with the CNR crafting system at all

The skills have some nice RP value and are highly benefical with some very high end robes with ultra high DC. Being fully buffed and using two rings... and still having to roll a 18-ish to succeed... that's when one suddenly finds oneself looking around for someone who actually has "wasted" points into those two skills.

So, as said before... mechanically, it has little value, as long as someone on the server puts points into it!
