Shattered Weapon
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:46:13 pm »
I guess I always thought this was a myth, but it actually happened to me this evening. Can anyone help us understand what causes a weapon to be shattered. What types of things will shatter a weapon when you hit them? And what is the process? Is there a roll, or just a count of the number of times you hit something hard?

Thanks.

It happens if you hit CNR (specifically, things you would use a pick to mine, like ore) with a weapon too many times. I think maybe ten times or something.

Hitting trees also counts, I think.

Trees and ores will do this.  The way it's designed to work is if one strikes a tree or an ore rock with any weapon that's not appropriate for harvesting (i.e. not a woodcutter's axe or a mining pick), it will damage that weapon and unequip it.  There is also a message that is shown to the player, if I recall.

After ten such instances with the same weapon, the weapon will be destroyed.

*toothless grin*

Ah, glad each episode only counts as one.  I was worried it was how many times you actually "hit" the rock or tree with your weapon.  Because sometimes you weapon will make contact with the ore/tree more than once per episode before it's unequiped.

Thanks folks. Is it just trees and ores? Does bashing doors, gates, webs etc do the same? How bout gem mining?

Just trees and ores.

Gems are not "attacked" like you would with chopping a tree or mining ore.

Doors, gates and webs do not damage weapons....though that's a good idea! ;)

Now, the follow on question. Is there anyway to determine how many "hits" a weapon has on it? Just thinking of the second hand market here. I would hate to buy a lemon.

Thanks

For players, no.  However, if you're careful, it won't ever matter. A weapon could have 9 hits on it and function forever.
