Rangers and scrolls

Propably a stupid question, but a question that has to be asked:D :
Why is it that rangers can use certain scrolls like Grease or Sleep, but on the other hand cannot use scrolls like Cat´s Grace, though the spell is obviously in their spellbook? :\

I believe that the scrolls have Only Usable By in the effect lines... Usually Sorcerer, Wizard, Bard.

I could easily be wrong, though - don't really play a caster much.

My understanding is that rangers cast divine type spells and if you happen to find an arcane scroll (cat's grace) you wont be able to use it. However if you find a divine scroll (not sure you will find one for cat's grace) you will be able to use it.

Mechanically it comes down to what Stephen said, only usable by. And arcane spells cannot be used by non-arcane classes such as rangers.

Neverwinter Nights does (IIRC) not make a distinction between Arcane and Divine spells except for the purposes of spell failure, which is, I believe, determined on the class side of things. I.e. Sor/Wiz/Brd spells are susceptible to spell failure, but Clr/Pal/Dru aren't. I'm actually not sure where Rangers fall in that in 3.0, but I know that for 3.5 they're considered Divine and thus do not suffer from Spell Failure due to armor.

Scrolls are different though, Stephen.  They have specific use-by parameters.

When the spell is cast, though, you are correct....there's no mechanical distinction.

That's only due to UMD, which BYPASSES all "Only Usable By:" tags on the item.

But thanks for thinking of me. ;)

Yes, thanks friends. :)
I´m still not sure why i can´t use say Cat´s Grace from a scroll, cause it states, that Cat´s Grace is a Ranger Spell. So NWN makes a difference between a divine scroll and an arcane scroll? Hm, that would mean i´ve  found only arcane scrolls up to now. O.o
Well, let´s see and thanks for your answers!
