Brownie life expectancy and aging - Ed
« on: May 04, 2009, 03:19:07 am »
I have searched LORE and the forums, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer to how long brownies live and how they age.

I have looked at (among others) these threads:

http://forums.layonara.com/races-layonara/95095-brownies.html

LORE: Brownie

LORE: Character Submission

Being distant relatives of haflings and pixies should they age like haflings as the submissions of many seem to indicate or ? Brownies seem - to me - a touch more magical than haflings and so I would expect them to live longer than haflings, perhaps aging along the lines of gnomes.

Anything official ?

It's here:
LORE: Races of Layonara

Brownies get the same life expectancy as halflings.

To be fair, there is some ambiguity with the chart, since "subrace" can refer both to an actual subrace (elf -> wild elf), or the mechanical subrace (halfling -> goblin).
I think what happened is that at one time the chart was correct for both meanings, but the ages have been tweaked for some of the mechanical only subraces, and the chart has not kept up. For instance, I'm positive that half-giants live a little longer than half orcs for example, and I'm pretty sure that goblins live shorter lives than halflings.

I'll make a note in the LORE forums to address the issue, thanks for bringing it up.

My word! That chart says humans 70 years. We have a whole bunch of ancients running around as spry as the day they were called ;) How do they do it? Must be the healing potions.

Hard to die with the bindstones yanking you back all the time.

"Oh no! I think Grandpa's having a hard attack! Grandpa! Grandpa!"

*Grandpa dies.*

"Grandpa! Noooooo.... *gasp* ... did grandpa's body just disappear?"
"Ah, it's just that bindstone again. We'll see the old codger again in the morning."

;)

Disclaimer: You can actually die of "natural" causes when attuned to a bindstone.

That is so funny! you could go into an loop of death and respawn:

Argg heart attack! ---  I'm dead ---- Hey I dont want to be dead ---- respawn ---- Argg heart attack! ----  I'm dead...

It's the preverbial Oh! No! not again! cicle.

*Runs into a mine and stumbles on a elder water elemantal... dies*

*blinks* Few.. thanks the gods for the bindstone

*A few months later of more training, and with a party.*

Now remember there was an elder water elemantal that drowned my arse last I was here.

*Buffs up, goes in and is faced with a bunch of elder water elemantal*

*Cries internally*

Oh, no... not again!

*dies*

Bear in mind that life expectancy of a brownie diminishes significantly when they are near house cats or near-sighted, dancing half giants. ;)
