    Level Zero Skills
    « on: July 05, 2007, 09:10:43 am »
    Hi,

I am just awakening in this world and wishing to enter my new charecter. As such I thought I would ask a very basic question or two so I can get it right without annoying anyone in world.
My question is while you take skills at level 1 or above fine, however does this mean you have the other skills but at level zero or just can not do/use these other skills? My charecter would want to take Perform at level zero while not wanting to progress any further (the charecter would not be a bard or a good performer!).

The idea of this is to highlight a charecter trait and is certainly not a positve trait but is only likely to provide much fun for all.

Happy to give more detail if required.

    I could be wrong....but....

Unless you have a Bard / Rogue class....you cant assign points to Perform as it wont show up.

However, once your characters created, your CHARISMA modifier would be added to your Perform, and you can still make Perform rolls.

      Thats my point really.
How can I get a level zero skill to show up so GM's can use it.

      Level 0 Skill?

Well, in game you can actually make rolls for ANY skill.  Perform, Use Magic Device, Spellcraft, Appraise, Lore, Hide, Heal, Taunt, Etc.  Just by typing in *(skill) check*

      Example:

You want to do a hide check to see if your PC can hide in a shadowy alley, *hide check*
You want to test if you can heal a wounded farmer of poison *heal check*
You want to see if you can sing a nice song to your girlfriend/boyfriend *perform check*

      Well theres my two jink.

Pure game mechanically, like if one considers the D&D player handbook rules, skills like perform and spellcraft are considered "trained skills" and require you to have at least 1 rank in them to be useable. A person who has no training in magic cannot even have the tiniest chance for detecting magic, can they? ;)

But for some of them, say perform, most DMs are most probably willing to make you roll those anyway.

To show your modifiers in those cases (well, for all skill checks and ability checks!), simply write: /o C perform check

      Nifty, isn't it? :)
