Newb Questions?
« on: August 12, 2015, 09:06:34 am »
Sorry guys just have a few random questions.1. I have read the rules on harvesting, but I am a little unclear on the exact amount of time that would be appropriate to wait before to harvest. Should I harvest only one per time while I'm logged in or is it possible to do more?2. When collecteing resources such as wood or clay or worms, do you crafting xp for just harvesting, or is it just when crafting. Do you get actual XP or is it just crafting XP?3. Are there any good quest or area for solo adventuring , and if so where would that be?4. Of course I would love to adventure with others, is there a hot period of time on the game in order to try and meet some other players?

1. It is definitely acceptable to harvest more than once while logged in as long as you do not "camp" next to the resources in a manner which you bypass the obstacles to achieve them.  For example, sitting in a safe farmland gathering wheat is fine.  Fighting down to the bottom of a cave past multiple spawns of monsters then waiting next to the ore for it to respawn is not.  This can be iffy of course.  If you are making rounds in the cave and hit the minerals, then go to a safer part of the caverns to rest, then come back and fight those monsters again, it can be acceptable.  What we primarily look at is if you are avoiding fights with the guardians of the goods.  So using invisibility or stealth to sneak past a bunch of monsters, popping out and harvesting is frowned upon.  Making full trips back and forth into the mines from start to finish however should be fine.

2. You don't get xp for harvesting, only the crafting part.  When you gain xp from crafting, you gain both crafting xp which affects your crafting abilities and actual xp which affects your character level.  As such, an adventurer can become a little more powerful by chopping trees and working them into arrows, or gathering grains and roasting and malting them for beer.

3. In the starter levels, the best quests for solo adventurers would be posted in the tavern in center and speaking to various NPCs for missions such as the bugs beneath the crafthall or zeke's lantern.  The areas from Vehl to Wayfare and off the roads are fairly easy to start with for most classes.  Fetching missions such as mail deliveries in Center and the littletown near Fort Llast are good for quick coin and xp.  Also check into the caravan system if you get into crafting.  Various NPCs across the lands are looking for adventurers to gather crafting recipes for them and delivering them to randomized locations.  Timely completion of these tasks yield bundles of loot and Fortune points which can be exchanged for gold or xp.

4. Your best bet is to advertise when you are on via the general forums and the event calendar.  Talk to people as you meet them in tells and arrange times when you can both be on to play.  This server is best played with a group of adventurers, and though the player population is low, there are still some folks out there.  If you see anybody logged in, do not be afraid to send a tell introducing yourself and asking if you can join in the fun.

I would add that most of my characters are higher level (20+), but don't be afraid to ask me to join if you need help doing a quest or just want to explore.  My characters are Tralek (wiz/rogue), Griff (paladin/champion) and Corky (bard/skald).

Repeat for agreement and emphasis. People are kind of spread out so unplanned meetings aren't as common as they once were. Even just posting that you'll be around can help people know someone's on and would welcome company. I have a couple characters around your level, but don't really have a lot of hangout time right now, so I'm not really yet back to a place where I can log in an empty server and try to drum up interest. If I know you or someone is around, though, I can try to make it. It's a lot easier to clear a spot in your day for someone you know will be there than lingering in hope, hehe, and a few people attract a few more, and so on.

Hopefully adventure again, soon!
