Title: Point of Extra Ranged Damage Type
Post by: Stephen_Zuckerman on December 26, 2012, 06:53:54 pm
So... On a piercing weapon, adding the damage type Piercing doesn't seem to do much of anything.

Why is it part of the Compound additions?

Yeah, it's one of those Bioware calculation things.
Same as adding 1d8 silver to a slashing weapon does no good at all.

So I think the falcons can roost easy.

Hm, wasn't there arrows made for layo that do slashing or bludgeoning damage instead of piercing or were those secondary damage types for arrows?

Does anyone have that link that illustrated the possible combination of arrows that can be made and their coorresponding damage?  I think Talen might have created it back in the day.

Cheers,
Polak

Oh, there bonus damages... though... if arrows/bows already do piercing... wouldn't the Falcon feathers piercing bonus be a bit well... useless... or am I reading that wrong and the damage type from feathers actually change the base damage type?

Also... bit off topic but... how exactly does feathers change damage type? Sorry I tend to think well... realistically at times. Slashing, Piercing and bludgeoning (at least)seems to me more to do with how the arrow head is crafted.

Piercing: smooth yet sharp edge with the tip being the smallest sharpest point.

Slashing: Flat and wide for the most part with serrated edges to rip into the target.

Bludgeoning: Little more then a small round metal ball for an arrow head.

At least those are my thoughts.

Yeah... it's magic. =P No realistic reason why one fletching over another would change damage type.

It's how you save space in 2da's while still balancing game mechanics using NWN mechanics.
Carry on.

I'm talking about Compound Bows. They all have "Extra Ranged Damage: Piercing."

From perusing various other forums, it turns out that this ability does absolutely nothing.

So why is it on the items?

In my humble opinion, the Extra Ranged Damage should be changed to say, slashing type. :)
