This has been pondered since 2005.
We should just all agree "and yea, it shall be so," and move along
Yeah, let them all burn..to cinders preferably!
Just to get the old considerations out of the way, I think two things - at this point (arguably any point but that's another thread ) that deity flavor matters a lot more than whether five domains is unbalancing, especially since it's not the first That said, if the number of domains remains a concern, I think we could easily swap fire for evil. He is evil as a consequence of his dogma and not as a part of his dogma, if that makes sense, and does not really need to turn outsiders or have anything to do with negative energy... vs fire being kinda... well, y'know. Important. I can see giving an evil deity the domain because we don't have many to choose from, but if there are several options there's no need for it to be automatic - same with good.
I'm with Acacea on this point. Fire for evil. If Pyrtechnon is the opposite coin of Rofirein, and I think we all agree he is. Rofirein's Domains: Guidance, Law, Order, Protection. Notice the absence of good?
Just pointing out...
Rofirein is not a Good (or "good" for that matter) deity.
I also note the absence of "Water" *winks*
For the record, I don't have a horse in this race nor a strong opinion either way (though I am leaning toward yes, Fire makes sense), but the opposition between Rofirein and Pyrtechon are more dogmatic and philosophical than bullet points on the NWN spectrum. In other words, it's a problematic argument to justify what Pyrtechon's domains should be based on the domains of his enemies.
Vorax, for example, is completely opposite of Pyrtechon in alignment, yet Vorax does (rightly) have the Good domain and the two gods share the War domain.
Just my opinion... but I say swap Fire for Strength. Pyrtechon wants everything destroyed, strong and weak alike... so let them all burn.
Actually... because I know a small piece of the puzzle I'll share this. The elements are held in balance by a particular other deity with secondary domains held by a certain other set of gods. (And actually, there's a couple more besides these.) Suggestion that, possibly, maybe Pyrtechon has been unable to wrest control from the lot of them? This sort of goes to similar other occurances such as Lucinda (among others) having lost a domain more recently and others who gained some.
Not that the concept of 'domains' are IC, but if a PC wants to rise to greatness and wrest control of the element of fire for his Master, seems like that might be a Great Aspiration. Would bring Him one giant step closer to complete and utter destruction of the world. If you comb over the NWN domains there is most definitely a pattern of who has what and there's likely a story there in that hasn't yet been released. (So get on it you WLDQ aspiring Ptechites. See ya in a year or so? Don't raise your hand though because everyone else will know who to send G'ork after to take out so that the world won't literally end...)
