More clearly, the portals used to be set up to automatically log the PC into the server where the destination was located, but it could cause some wonkiness sometimes. Instead, the system was changed to automatically boot the PC when they use a portal linking to a different server. The same thing happens when you sail from a port on one server to a port on another, too.
So, if you were on the West server and hopped a portal to Prantz, Arnax, North Point, the Great Library, or anywhere else over there portals might go, you'll need to log into the Central server to continue playing and get back to West. How to get back depends where you went. Some ways back are easier than others, and there's a good chance someone will be willing to help you get back IC if you need it.
