A use for parchment (and charcoal)
    « on: August 04, 2005, 12:31:00 pm »
Well, I'd really like to write on them.
A parchment message in a chest in my guildhall would really be nice.
Or to read messages in an inn would really rock.
Depending on the type of parchment Hickory/Oak/etc. would be the
limit until the parchment turns to dust. I don't know if that is
possible without a "heartbeat". Perhaps a "number of times it can
    be read" countdown counter.

    Just some ideas.

Nah, could use the quasi-heartbeat that is the rest timer.  The problem with the idea is acctually writing on them.  I'm fairly sure that there is absolutely no way to change the description (and thus text on the page) of an item outside of the toolset.  It could not be done on the fly IG.  You can RP using parchment in this fashion, but we cant make it acctually happen.

Actually, it's possible, I've seen it done in various other servers, though I don't know how they did it. I believe the server Arabel has it, but I'm not sure, and I've found it in countless other servers. there was a scribe, and he asked you what you wanted for the title, gave you a character maximum, and then you wrote a message, said it in talk channel, and press continue in the conversation window, and the process repeated itself for the first and second paragraphs of the message. At least I think it was this way, it has been a long time since I played there.

that sounds like a message board ive seen on a few servers, might be nice to have here... actually would be very nice to have on in each, or most of the well traviled towns. Now that i thank about it that would eb a great idea adding one into or infront of the inns or what not in each town, or just the more well traviled ones maby.

We used to have message boards in game (in nearly every city--and linked) and they were rarley used and so we removed them.

it would be like instead of everyone posting at the inn on the fourms... they would actually post at the inn.. but i wouldent want to see it all linked becouse that is unreaslistic, why should i see the same not in hampshire as Mistone, if the person posting there note wants it in every town then tere going to have to get off the butts, leave Hlint *gasp*, and put it there. I woul love to see ti put in again if its not to big a issue, one could post notes to other chars IC, post items that are for sale, Things like when the Gray Circle posted there thing and everyone listed there names *grins at the hit list* would go there, now one could just as easily hit alt tap and go see the fourms on the net, but it is less real that way. i dont know what id post about... maby just random things to scare folks or whatever, but i know id check them often enough

The thing I disliked about bulletin boards is that the messages were on there permanently.  It made way too many to look at and was really annoying when people stopped supplying what they were advertising.  In addition, a slow-selling item would get buried quickly.

add a way for the posts to be taken down. And for things gettings drownded out buy newer things... would be just like a real post board.

Actually, it was not like a bulletin board, after you said the message you would receive an item with the name that you said was the title, and the description would e the two paragraphs.
