log - sawdust - tinder
« on: December 20, 2005, 06:52:00 pm »
Wouldn't it be logical that when I use up a raw branch of wood at the carpenter bench or the instrument crafting station, I end up with a bag of sawdust and a little bundle of tinder left over? Theres gonna be some bark and little twigs and stuff on that branch.

I don't know why but I get bored with making trips to the general store to buy 1 gp bundles of tinder, when I'm spending all my time chopping trees down and sawing them up in the craft house and...well a real log from the forest would make some tinder.

I would suggest that it was made possible to make fire wood and that a fire would need tinder and flint to be started and fire wood or coal in order to burn for a longer preiod, except for druids and rangers who could gather wood when they are in wood areas.

Well yes, it is true that in the real world you need more than a few ounces of tinder to make a fire...just tinder would burn about 15 seconds and make about zero heat...

But it is also true that in the real world just about anybody can gather firewood, the limitation to rangers and druids is a bit silly. I was a boy scout, I bet a lot of us were...

Its also true that having to buy and carry 10 or 20 pounds of firewood with us in our backpacks, as is true on certain other PWs, in order to have our fires in non-forested areas would be annoying

And charcoal could be craftable. But this may be opening a can of worms we dont want to open.
