Platinum Shields

<< < (2/4) > >>

Talan Va'lash:
the lowest SR you can put on an item is 10.  and its not +10 or anything, its just 10 or just 18 or whatever the numeric value.

To overcome spell resistance the caster rolls 1D20+caster level, so low SRs are pretty useless.  A caster level 9 or higher has no chance of having her spells resisted by SR 10.  The same caster has a 50% chance of having their spells resisted if the SR is upped to 20.

A minimum caster level cleric (level 9) that casts SR gets 21 SR.

Eight-Bit:
To interject on this a bit. A Platinum Shield does not need to fall into the same constraints as a Platinum shield in the real world. Let's go ask Ozy, the Planeshifting Bard that is a 1/4 of every possible living race out there. Or the Dragons. Let's get their input. :) Do you see what I mean? Logistically yes, it would be a horrible shield. But whose to say that Platinum on Layonara needs to be a soft metal? It could make a great shield. But as I was aware, there is only a five level gap between Iron and Adamanitum. So I don't really think a whole new set of shields is really necessary.

Talan Va'lash:
Adamantium is difficult to obtain though and adamantium shields are less than common.

also, more stuff is good heh.  And it seems logical that it would be the step between iron and adamantium the same way bronze is between copper and iron.

Also, I doubt theres more than a 2 level gap between bronze shields and iron, so its not really the level req thats an issue with these.

in conclusion, I dont think anyones going to be heart broken if platinum shields never exist, it was just an idea.

General_Ski:
Umm thick platinum armor would way alot... Platinum laced clothing is fine.. WHy need platinum when you got mithril, albeit mithril is harder than adamantium to forge.

Variable:
Platinum armor is between iron and adamantium.

Also Mithril is the best available metal out there. I don't think that anyone can actually mine it.
