To whoever reads this book, I hope what little ideas I have can help you in whatever it is you endeavour to do.

Basic Infomation on Roles

Heavy Infantry: Usually heavily armed fighters, wielding swords, axes or another melee weapon, as long as with a shield and plate armor to protect themselves. Their job is to lead the attack and hold the enemy off while the the skirmishers and archers directly attack the enemy.

Skirmishers: Similar to the havy infantry, but often have lighter armor for more free movement. They also wield more longer weapons and heavier weapons so they can do more damage to the enemy, but carry no shield. Some of the weapons skirmishers may wield are halberds, spears, a greatsword, etc. The skirmishers will go right in after the heavy infantry, then use the reach of their large weapons to attack the enemy while the heavy infantry distracts them.

Medics: Usually clerics, as most clerics are skilled in the art of healing and bandages. They go in right after the skirmishers then heal and bandage the heavy infantry and skirmishers as needed, yet staying behind them and thus, safe. Often before a battle they can also give the blessings of their god to the other men and women in the group.

Archers: Archers use a variety of ranged weapons to aid the heavy infantry and skirmishers. Primarily their job is to target any enemy archers, as this prevents the need to break the enemie line just to kill the enemies archers. Afterwards, they will aim at the enemies frontline and slowly pick them off. The archers usually stay quite far back the heavy infantry.

Magicians: Any wizards or sorcerers would go here. They stay with the archers, but instead of shooting at the enemy, they use their vast array of spells to not only hinder the enemy, but aid our own. Because they are so far back, they are completely safe and have time to cast their spells in safety.

Special Operations: Usually rather highly trained men and women. While not suited to any other position, at first before the battle even begins, these talented group of indivdiuals will scout out the area for enemies and if needed, set some traps up. When the battle begins, either they join the skirmishers and use their expertise to strike the enemy quickly and hard before they even see them there, or join the archers, just in case the line breaks and they need to be defended.

Simple Tactics

Ambush: This is a fairly simple yet effective tactic when you are outnumbered. First of all, get a Special Operations person to scout out the area and find out exactly where the enemy is. Once you know, set up the ambush. If in a cave, it is best to place archers down the end of a long corridor so they get the most shots possible at the enemy as they charge down, then place some heavy infantry and skirmishers around the corner so they can hit the enemy as they run to the archers. If it is out in open ground, try finding some high ground for the archers and put the infantry right where the entrance to the higher ground is. If it is all flat, lik in a desert, simply put the arhcers well back behind the infantry. Then get a special operations to lure the enem into your ambush. If all goes right, you will have victory.

Defensive Circle: This one is useful if the enemy is surrounding you or you are setting up camp. It is difficult to complete if who you are leading are undisciplined . Firstly, get the archers and magicain into th center of the circle, all facing out so they can shoot the enemy. Then put the heavy infantry and skirmishers in a bigger circle around then, stopping the enemy from reaching them. Any special operations should stay in the middle at first, moving to fill in any holes that may arise in the circle. Everyone must stay where they are told (apart from the special operations) or this will not work.

Defensive Line: This is rather simple. Simply putting the heavy infantry in a one man thick line, then skirmishers in another line, medics, and so on. This is useful if you have to defend a rather large area, but will not work if you have too few men and women under your command.

Retreat: Only to be used when you are sure you have no hope of victory, it will prevent many losses. All the men and women who are injured the most should flee straight away. Whoever isn't as much should try and hold the enemy off for at least a few seconds, then run after them. If the enemy pursues, the archers should stop every now and then to let off a shot at the enem then keep running. Also if there is any magicians with a spell that can slow down the enemy, by all means use it. Soon enough the enemy should stop pursuing, as they would be getting to many losses from your archers while not even getting close enough to touch your me and women.

Descriptions on various enemies

Goblins (Red Light Clan)

The Goblins of the Red Light Clan inhabit the Red Light Caverns in the Goblin Wastelands, west of Hlint on Mistone. From what I have gathered, they don't seem to wonder too far out of the caves. They seem to have no real goal, as they usally keep to themselves, but have been known to attack caravans coming in and out of Hlint on occasion. Their leader seems to change a lot, as htey keep getting killed. By what I know, they elect a new leader by out of who is the biggest and most powerful warrior, rather than who is the smartest. A small number seem to have a grasp on lesser magics.

Forces on the Field:

Warriors: Carry small weapons, aren't very powerful but often are outnumbering at least 3-1.

Archers: Carry bows, they stay back well behind the warriors and use their poor skill to try and take down their enemies.

Elites: These goblins are very well trained (by their standards) and carry the best equipment they are able to scrounge up.

Scouts: Well trained, but not as well as the Elites. They carry bows and short swords. They are usaully found outside the caverns, keeping an eye out for possible intruders or targets.

There is also some capable of magic, whether this is divine or arcane I don't know.

Orcs (Rabid Wolf Clan)

The Orcs of the Rabid Wolf Clan? inhabit the area north of Hlint. They seem quite reserved and keep to themselves, but defend what they call their land passionately. This is rather odd for a clan of orcs, to live so near a town but not raid it or any caravans, so right now their goals are not known. They could be marshalling forces, but it is not known, as going to far north of Hlint is very dangerous and hard because of the thick forest.

Forces on the Field:

Bashers: This is probably what most people will find north of Hlint, average size orcs with greataxes. They fight ferociously but aren't that strong.

Heavy Artillerists: These are rarely seen. They are quite well trained orcs and use a heavy crossbow and can be quite devastating to an unexpecting enemy.
