Journal of a Battlemage - Elinmire Thel'dinarae

Entry #1
I have scarcely returned from my forlorn travels when my ultimate goal was accomplished by the chance meeting of a young elven magi. I saw a rather degraded fellow who seems to have been spared yet again, to be slaughtered one more time. Heavily armed as he was, I'm afraid he was lacking the wisdom of an imp with a toothache. Be that as it may, I offered him some aide, and he ran wholeheartedly into the maelstrom from when he was in to begin with. As I followed after him, my poor aching knee smarting, this elvish mage of great power passed. We sensed each other immediately and spoke. She accompanies me to help this uncooth young man, and we then took time to great. She returned me to her tower, and we spoke, and behold, my heart was lifted with gratitude. She offered me a position on her staff as an instructor in magic. Since the fall of 2 magical guild/councils, she is now starting her own school....my dream from the beginning. Strangely enough, we have similar faerie familars, we both learned Light as our first spells, and found very much in common. It was indeed a satisfying night. She is my superior in magical arts and scribing, but now perhaps I can accomplish my dreams of a complete spellbook.

Also, just before, I met Kat, little Kat! I still wear the boots she made with her own hands. She is doing well...though the trials that young one has seen are immense. She has witnessed the falling of Pranzis, as well as risked her life for many as well as her family. A sad tail, but to find her heading an orgainzation to distribute wealth amoung the pour. I must say, seeing the young grow to such heights is incredibly satisfying. She told me young Connor, the boy who gathered eggs and other things for me, was also doing well. I met him on the road also, and spoke lengthily with him as well.

I am back home, I have purpose again, and my travels have not been in vain.

I journeyed to Pranzis.  I was disgusted at their laws.  To think, I used to teach in that place, it was my home long ago... I kept a low profile and hid my talents.  Kat had warned me and told me what had happened there.  Dwarven guard everywhere.  I nearly lost my head and cast a spell in front of one, but  I met up with a large adventurer named Double.  Mute fellow, but very good with axes.  He had a Bardic companion named Snagnor I think?  We traveled through woods I have long left.  It was a memorial experience.  I need to start honing my skills with battle support magics.  I learned how Keen, Greater Magic Weapon, and Flame weapon together can make a good fighter more powerful than any summons--with a sprinkle of maximized strength and endurance.

Before I left the Fort, I met with a fellow named Omer, and my dear elven mage, Elohanna.  They showed me their new tower.  I was overcome with amazement of the beauty and utility of the building.  I hope I will be able to be an instructor with them.  I must say, after so many years, I never lusted for an office in a long time.  But, some of them were exquisite.  Perhaps I would qualify or one when they see my skills and instruction.

I have a long way to master level 7 spells.  Oh, I look forward to it, I am still carrying the spell Tathnolu game me so many years ago.  I can't quite understand a few aspects of it.  Soon, I hope.

I am excited to begin teaching again and scribing.  I'm starting to collect items to begin.  I just can't remember what goes into each ink.  Only the common ones.  I'll have to make a list, or Sit and have Elohanna remind me.  She's such a dear girl.  And from the looks of it, that Omer fellow seems to fancy her.  She's married though, I'm sure she'll be fine.

I spent a good deal of time in Dregar.  It was my home growing up, as well as many adventures.  I remember gathering components under the noses of large giants.  I remember wild animals, mountains, ah...the fresh air. those were the days.

I met a young fellow, a strong pious man names Lance Stargazer.  We were making out way back to town and we found ourselves almost outmatched by the giants.  It was an epic battle.  In fact, without my skills and his put to wise use, we would have been finished!  He was very valiant, even besides the fact he wouldn't be able to heal me.  His god and my "god" as it were, are not getting along at the moment.  It's not that I don't recognize magic as a gift from Lucinda and Al'Noth, it's just that we never were on speaking terms.  And you grow distant when you're not speaking.  So, I mentioned that Al'Noth and I would probably more or less get along, since we're both book people(I mean god, and man) and he informed me he wouldn't be able to heal me.  Well, that wasn't much of an issue I told him.  I would take care of myself.  In the meantime, as he fought, coming awfully close to the end of his life, I saw him strike an amazing Smite upon a giant who was about to gorge him with an ax.  The giant fell and we survived.  Very lucky.

He soon thereafter told me a little about his life, and his doings.  Very nice fellow, fell in love with a girl of a different faith.  Lots of good drama and such, and in the end it seems he gets to keep her.  I always prefer happy endings.

It's time to head back to Mistone.  I need to find Elohanna, she said something about living quarters.

I am not in my own bed, in a roof provided my now only living relative.  Elohanna Dawnstar is now my granddaughter.  And I her grandfather.  Well, yes she's elven(pure, I'm sure) and I'm human, but well, not all races were made to be separate.  I think there are closer bonds amoung magicians and adventures, as I've seen.  Though I've seen some awfully reclusives ones as well.  When we discussed the opportunity for me to move into her home in a small side room, she mentioned she would like to have a grandfather like me...I am a bit old.  Not in Elven years, but old in human years.  I'm sure Elven grandfathers can be almost as wise as I.  *Elinmire smiles at his little joke as he writes*

So, we pronounces ourselves family, and I moved in.  She has a sweet family, and her heart is exactly the right place for a teacher.  I hope she is able to acomplish this dream.   Now I must go get some furniture and get some rest, I've been traveling for years.  I think Lae ann will appriciate a nice soft place to sleep from now on, Not to mention the playmate of one fey in Elohanna's relations.

Also, now I have someone to help me with my Elvish.  she told me that "granddaughters always love their grandfathers" in elvish.  Lovely language.  Sometimes it feels like it is magic in itself.  I spent many years trying to discover the more complex magical words.  Our stuffy group was very race prejudice, so my exposure was limited.  I'd also like to learn gnomish, I must find a teacher.

Oh, also, I heard the new tower council is meeting soon.  Elohanna mentioned it to me.  I look forward to it.

I think I know what I can do for this academy.  Write.  I can teach tactics!  I am a battlemage after all.  the fellows at the old academy can just roll over in their graves.  I heard some of them parished in the new regime in Dregar.  Well, serves them.  They didn't see it coming.

I was working with a rather large fellow I can't remember if I mentioned, named Dubbel.  He's a giant, I think, he doesn't speak, but is fairy well understood after you watch him carefully.  He and I spent some time in the Dregar deserts.  When I use my spells to augments his two blades, he is better than any summons I could muster.  He is incredible!  2 GMW, 2 keens, and fire do wonders.  Also a little stoneskin and such and that's all we need.  I can fend for myself after that.  There were a few close calls.

I can write manuals of magic on tactics, such as a few comanpions, a wizard and one companion, and group tactics.  they are each very different.  You have to use what you have wisely, or else your party can suffer, as well as you.

Elohanna and I today discuss Elven again.  She started teaching me how to use what I call conjunctions.  Putting small words, like daughter and grand, into bigger words.  So interesting, it flows into long words easier than music, in my opinion.  She shows me some of her scribing, and how elven fits it even better in some ways.  Amazing language.  Diagrams and a flowing language.  I met a elf named Sun, but her elven name was the name for sun.  I actually understood a few words she said.  Her and her companion likes Lae Ann a lot.  A fellow named Ben Poetr teated Lae Ann very poorly, though I needed to purchase a few things from him.  He's gotten me a lot of paper as well as given me a lot of topaz dust.  Very very useful.

Essay #6

The meeting of the council.  Rather large group and excellent debate!  my goodness I haven't had this much fun since I had to talk my way out of dinner with the dark elves when I ended up in the wrong caves in the Dregar mountains.  That was a lively discussion and I'm only lucky they weren't feeling bloodthirsty.  Well, the charm person spell I muttered under my breath was handy.  Then there was the horde of trolls who came home to the cave when we were in the midst of determining the terms of my surrender.  Invisibility and ran.  Lae Ann was my lookout.  She is indespensible.  And needed, for me, I think.  She was Al'Noth's bad joke on me, he's probably still laughing.

The council is a good balance, some who abhore necromacy to those who at least understand that we can move off Mistone to teach it.  It's needed, I think, balance.  You need to understand the other side.  You need to understand it not only to fight it, but to counter it.  and I believe balance in magic allows full use of it's power.

I have to go to an interview and be screened now.  I hope they will like my work, I should write something to show them my skills.

Elohanna is one of the interviewers, but she said I'd also need to see Omer and Timulty, I think his name was.  Perhaps I'll get an office?  I hope so.  I miss my old one.  The room Elohanna gave me is very cozy and working out nicely.  I am truly grateful to have a granddaughter.  We pooled our resources so we can both scribe when needed.  She is a great asset to me, I hope these old bones are to her as well.
