Characters failing saves when rolling "1"s ?

Character:  Ryubi JinglesPlayer name:  Bill1199Description:  When Ryubi was in the sinister forest fighting vampires he was sneak attack-death attacked and became paralyzed as the result of failing his fortitude save that he had to make because of the death attack.   He died after being killed while paralyzed but no loss of SS.Ryubi rolled a "1" and failed his save.  The roll was something like, "(Ryubi Jingles: Fortitude save *Failure* 1+18=19 vs. DC 14)".  So even though he naturally beat the DC of 14 with this adjusted base save of 18 he failed because he rolled a 1.I thought even if you roll a 1, if your adjusted base is higher than the DC you still succeed in your save?Location:  Sinister ForestReproducable:  Yes, I tried the same vamps with Vrebel and he also failed his save when rolling a 1 but was given the wounding damage instead of paralysis for some reason.* I tried attaching the logs of Ryubi hopefully it worked!

That's stock NWN, I'm fairly certain. 1's are auto-fail, and 20's are auto-succeed regardless of total or DC.

That setting (autofailure) is modified by a serverside ini file (nwnplayer I think), and it was off before. Might be one of the weird things from server resurrecting, or someone snuck it in... hehe

(edit: dangit wild font sizes)

It is indeed a default, and it did sneak in again due to the recent server troubles, which reset the nwnplayer.ini file it its default settings (see: several threads posted by lonnarin). It has since been restored from a backup copy, but the server needs to be reset before those changes take effect.

Until then, enjoy the uncertainty!

Server has been reset. All settings should be back to normal.
