Crafting Light Effects Idea

I was thinking about this, and perhaps a solution to the problem of some characters wanting the light (non-sneaks and races w/o dark/low light vision) and some not wanting it would be to make "light polish" or "light dusts" craftable and added the same way a rod or resist is added.  They could be part of alchemy using recepies like this:   Blue Powder of Dim Light - 1 Phenelope dust, 1 colored sand, a leather pouch  Blue Powder of Light - 2 Phenelope dust, 2 colored sand, leather pouch  Blue Powder of Bright Light - 4 Phenelope dust, 4 colored sand, Leather pouch   Red Powder of Dim Light - 1 Fire Agate dust, 1 colored sand, a leather pouch  (same permutations for brighter dusts)   Green Powder of Dim Light - 1 Malachite Dust, 1 colored sand, a leather pouch   purple - amathyst dust  White - a crushed pearl instead of a gem dust   or perhaps instead of/in addition to colored sand throw in a glow worm for its inherent glowyness

*bump*

I was in some dark areas the other day, and took off all my items that give off light.  The low light vision vfx is soo much better, wider radius and easier on the eyes.

"Light gems" that add light to items in various colors are already in the toolset from HotU.  those could be used instead of the poweder idea if it would make things easier.

I know some characters who actually don't like the glowing swords and light radius that some items give. Might be nice to get an item that can take the light n' stuff off items. Just a thought.

Yeah, the idea with this craftable light effect system, is that none of the enchantments/resistances would give light automatically.  But if you want light, you can add it via this system.  Its so that people that dont want light can just not add it, while people that do want it can still be happy.

As buggy as darkvision is, I still prefer it to actually glowing.  Gul's sword glows about like a cyan ring (so I can see his feet pretty well, and nothing else), but the darkvision is vastly superior in those areas where it bothers to work (which is most places, just some better than others).

So far, I've been hesitant to get anything else that adds a glow because I just don't want to see Gulnyr giving off light.  It ruins my immersion to see him glowing.  I don't mind the weapon glows quite as much since weapons are easy to put away, and there's no reason to have one out except in combat.  And adding a rod to a weapon might require it to glow, in a way.  All that magic pulsing through it...

I'm completely in favor of voluntary lighting, though. Even on the weapons.

Heh heh found it again :p
Love it, want it ;)
Don't really care about the glow from the weapons enhancements, they do damage by fire or whatever they should glow but t'is the damage reduction dust glowing that actually as preventing me from applying it to what I wear :(
Even if I don't even think it matters if yer glowing when sneaking kind of breaks the mood when yer thinking: man them ogres are real stupid here I am right in front of him and am glowing like a christmas tree :D

hmm, to get rid of light could you cast continual flame on it then dispell it?  would that remove the original light?

Just thinking of a temporary work around untill this something like this gets implemented.

This is a pretty interesting concept. I wouldn't mind seeing it implemented!

A system/machine has been implemented to remove light from any item.  Seek out a seedy temple and you may find what you're looking for.
