Crash on loading areas - Compatibility issue
« on: December 15, 2012, 02:09:29 pm »
Description: When entering some areas, crashes occur and the player can't log in again unless moved.

Location: Leringard, Transition from Blackford Castle towards area before Leringard

 Verified: na

 Reproducable: Yes

Additional Information: It is quite possibly that it is a compatibility issue with NWNQ textures.

For reference, NWNQ textures are not officially supported by Layonara, meaning one uses them at one's own responsibility.

Description: Encountered bug again.

Location: Port Hempstead, Transition from port to the memorial

 Verified: na

 Reproducable: Yes

Additional Information: Override folders etc empty. Other transitions fine. Went from the Wolfswood to Port Hempstead for some guild buisness, then crashed in Hempstead.

Update: The previous problem appeared to be fixed after a reboot, however after I traveled to "Tribute to Allurial" and then back to "Crimson Eagle Memorial", the crash occured again. Usually, the issue is only happening to Aden, now, my other characters are affected as well.

Update 2: The problem went from one to another character. Restarting the system appears to slove the problem for a certain amount of transitions. Maybe it's a cache issue or something similar.

Update 3: Problem persists after complete deinstallation and new installation of NWN.

I suggest investigating your drivers and/or video settings.  These areas are visited extremely frequently by a lot of players with a lot of computer configurations, so if there was some kind of core incompatibility with these tilesets or the build of the areas, it would be a much more common issue.

My first, simplest suggesting is turning off shiny water, since so far both of these areas have water components to them.  Secondarily, try turning down your quality settings to see if it makes a difference. If you've recently upgraded any video drivers, consider rolling them back or tweaking your driver settings.

I was aware of the shiny water issue, and tried various graphic configurations as well.
Right now, I added
Quote
MaxMemoryUsage=64
to my nwnplayer.ini and it does work so far. I haven't had any graphics driver updates as of late and it worked before. I am currently trying to retrace what kind of changes I made to my system that could cause the problem. Maybe I need to reinstall Windows as a last straw.

If you don't think that it's a NWN problem, this thread should maybe be moved out of this subforum. Thank you for your patience, Dorg.

For Aden, it doesn't work. Sorry.
