Keep crashing - Battlehelm Moors
« on: March 15, 2007, 02:22:47 am »
In exploring more of Mistone, I entered Battlehelm Moors and crashed. Now everytime I log in, I crash. It loads then crashes. Any help here would be appreciative.

Bioware: ystrday
Character: Tegan

Please try to log in to another server (central for instance) and it will boot you. Then try to log back in to west and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't let us know and we will try to catch you in game or change your starting location on your next login.

Sorry for the problem.

Oh and I would like to suggest that you turn off "shiny water" in your settings, I think that might fix future crashes like this. Perhaps you have it off already but if not please turn that off so you do not have to fight this sort of thing again.

Ok, I looked and my shining water option is off. Then I tried the next suggestion, logging onto central being booted and then relogging onto west; I kept crashing. Tried logging onto East and then west, and a no go. I crash as soon as the bar finishes loading.

Try logging in again.  I've shifted your position.  If that doesn't work, I'll have to get more drastic.

I'm free!

*sighs* And from what I could see, it looked awesome.. maybe someday I can go back and explore.

Thank you everyone for the help and advice.

interesting... I had this problem in that same area but turning off shiny water fixed it (and oddly I've gone into the same tileset elsewhere with shiny water on with no problems.)

If you're up for performing a test try turning off "Texture animations" under Advanced Video Settings and see if you still experience crashes.

Also, what graphics card do you have? ATI and nVidia cards both have their own unique... quirks like this.

I had the same problem last week and Orion had to move me out as I couldn't get any further than the load page for the moors.  Turned shiney water off and it didn't help me either.  I am running an ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 card.  I think I finally fixed it by dropping to the 32 bit texture pack from the 64.  Haven't done much in the moors though to test it out but it did cut lag and choppy graphics in other areas.

I'm not familiar with your exact card but in my experience ATI's have more problems with the shiny water thing than nVidias (though nVidias aren't immune to it.)

If lowering the quality of the texture pack fixed it then it sounds like it's a ram, or vram issue, more specifically, running out of one or the other.

That would only be the case on an older machine or video card so I'm not sure how probable that explanation is since I'm not familiar with that card.

Alrighty. I have adjusted all of the battlehelm moors areas. No more low lying water, no more vfx or anything like that. I also removed some of the placeables here and there. That means it doesn't look as nice but hopefully it is less "crashy".

If the problem persists we need a new bug report and hopefully only one thread this time. :)
