OXES can DROWN in the Gulf of Bigera
    « on: February 27, 2006, 07:10:22 am »
I posted this on the long ox thread below, but have been encouraged to post it here so it can
maybe be fixed.  A knowledgable friend said that maybe the "walk matrix" needs to be adjusted around the north part of the Gulf.

    DROWNED OX

Oh, by the way, for everyone to know, a "Wall" as stated above, where the ox will supposedly stop, does not include a body of water. (at least in the Gulf of Bigera)

My poor (6th) ox drowned in the gulf of Bigara last night with lots of good stuff in his pack!

I have had them go off on their own numerous times, but was able to stop them everytime, except for last night. I could not get to him in time, into the lake he went, no pack left anywhere, and when I went back to the ox merchant, he made no mention of my previous ox.

When he first went into the lake, I tried all the suggestions above, going across a transition, resting, logging on and off, all to NO avail.

SO fair warning to all you OX users out there, OXES CAN DROWN!!

hehe, I've seen this before many times.  It happens in periods of high lag and isn't a problem with the walk matrix, its an issue with the lag being so bad that it doesn't tell the ox it can't walk there untill its well beyond it.

The same thing happens some times where an ox/horse will walk.. over a building heh. or over a wall or something.

Though, this will not kill the ox/horse, as its just an error in the program due to lag (there is no "drowning system" anyway in NWN.)  The problem here, is probably that the ox was killed somehow by the goblins/gnolls (whichever are in this area) and you didn't see it due to the ox not acctually being where it appeared to be.

Did you look near the goblin/gnoll camp in the other corner of the map?  Iirc its possible for the ox to "wrap around" the map in cases like this, leaving from one side and returning from the opposite (think of Asteroids the arcade game.)

These issues will occur a lot less frequently in the next update as Oxen act as henchmen, when you're leading them now they'll be in your party list, so you can ensure they're following you by right clicking and selecting the follow option from the radial dial.  It also corrects much of the lag jumping and wandering issues.

Oh, thank the gods. Can we just have their inventories replace the oxpacks, and put a limit on the number of items that can be stored in there?

That's what the two expansions are for, hey hey.

      Excellent,

SO Cumby (Cumbersome Slow Ox) VII has a much better chance of survival now!!

You will also be able to heal them easier, (for those...rare....NOT) times when they get beat on!!
