Title: Horse/Character space
Post by: akata on September 08, 2008, 05:00:24 pm
Description: after riding one of the new horse my characters personal space have expanded, if she's sitting down on a bench in Port Hampstead no one is able to sit on the bench with her or get close.

Location: was pushing Storold and Alantha around from Fort Vehl to Port Hampsted so everywhere

Verified: -

Reproducable: same thing happened to -EventHorizon- character Alantha Tsarran after riding a horse

I think it might be due to the skin that is added to the player inventory when you ride the horse. I have noted that when you saddle down, that skin (item in the inventory) is not taken away. Although I'm unsure that this is it.

Same problem here, plus I also do not lose the skin after dismounting.

Do you get more skins as you mount/dismount?

I have a skin in my inventory that says its for v3 horse scripts?  Ben doesn't own a horse, just an ox.  Its gone now, but was there yesterday all three times I logged in.

When Tegan jumped to west for the first time with her horse, I noticed in her inventory the horse skin was gone, but she is still having space issues. Tegan cannot get close, or budge anyone without pushing them away.

Sallaron as well has the same issue, as he has bought a horse as well.

Another intersting Horse bug ... I dismount and another horse appears over my head and walks with me.  Doesn't happen all the time, but today it happened about 5 times.  Remount and Dismount worked all but one time.

This is almost certainly a lag issue. I noted it in testing but I thought I had things spaced out enough to prevent it.  You correctly surmised the fix. It's kinda funny though. :)

Same problem with Flynn. Bought a new horse a couple days ago and has had space issues ever since. Is there a work around?

Any further comments on this since 3.02.2 has gone online?

So far so good, the creature skin leaves her inventory a couple of minutes after logging in, as well as it appears Tegan doesn't push anyone away when she stand close to them. But they are people who do not have horses, the big test will come when Tegan and Sall come together and see if they can stand cheek to cheek or Tegan pushes him away because he forgot to bathe that morning.

He'll spray the Tuc's with manly aftershave then  :P

But yep... a definite fix.

Although I did notice... when standing close to another char, there is no "pushing back" effect. However, if you rotate the character (( IE... Turn with Q or E)) your character is then thrown back to their last "stopped" position (( where they last stayed motionless for more than a second ))

Not a great issue of course, much preferred than the last.

Today, with only 7 people on the server I kept getting my horse appearing over my head.  Mount/Dismount did not always work, nor did logging out/in.  And the skin did not disappear from my inventory.

Logging in/out probably won't work for the horse-over-the-head thing.  Probably should have accounted for that, but I didn't...heh.  Stick with the mount/dismount for correcting that.  The relog recommendation is for the space around your character.

I tried that Dorg, relogging for space issues, it doesn't work. For some reason the PC skin doesn't appear on central.. but it appears on west.

Did you try twice? In testing I intentionally bugged my test character.  The first login didn't fix the space issue but the second one did. It has in part to do with how Bioware's engine holds onto some parts of appearance data for no apparent good reason.

Yes I did, and still do.. I exit from the game completely and log back in twice.

I just looked at your character in the vault with LETO, as I was concerned it was still stuck with the "mounted" appearance. It's set with the correct appearance for your character's race, which should bring with it the proper collision circle as well.  If you're not seeing it improve with dismounting and/or relogging, my feeling is that the NWN engine is inconveniently keeping some of the appearance size data from the mounted appearance when dismounted.

Please keep an eye on it and let me know if it actually improves.
