As far as the forums go, I'm mostly just a button-pusher.  However, as I understand it, there's a cache on the server that gets clogged up or otherwise gets into a failure mode. When that happens, people lose the ability to edit posts or access private messages.  The short-term remedy is simple, but the "fix" has been...not so much elusive, but one of those things where the cause is not completely known and the best "solution" is to avoid the problem entirely by turning off some parts of it. Again, this is my second-hand understanding of what's going on, and I really am not the most qualified person to try and explain the root of the problem...and nobody wants me poking at it to see what might help.  Trust me...it wouldn't be pretty.
