Wizard Multiclass or maybe finding a diety
    « on: March 09, 2006, 04:25:02 pm »
Jerei is a fighter right now, and I want to multiclass him RP into a wizard or a bard. I realize this is an arduous and long task because he is a very unbelieving person.

But what process do I need to start to get him down that path? Find a mentor? Study on his own? Though meditation? I know his direction I just don't know how to get on the road.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Finding a mentor would be my suggestion...though really you need to consider what your character would do in that situation. What is his style of learning? How does he go about pursuing his goals. Figure that out, and that's what you should do.

If he is currently unbelieving, and you want to have him become a cleric, then ask yourself, "Why?" Why would he start to believe? Why would he want to become a cleric? Usually, to have such a large change, some event must influence the character making them question their unbelief, and push them to start to believe in a god or dogma. If you can answer the "why" question, then the rest falls into place.

If you know what deity he will follow, that helps a lot in deciding what course would make someone believe in that particular deity. And some religions have strict requirements for entry, so you would have to RP meeting those requirements. Others pretty much take anyone with faith.

Pick a deity, answer "why", and then connect the dots and enjoy the ride.

Edit: Ignore this. The original post was "a cleric", but now it seems to have changed to "wizard."

Thank you, finding a mentor/father figure would be his best bet according to his bio/RP style. Thank you for the suggestion. Would the same apply to me finding a diety for him?

I would think so, I'd suggest finding a person of a religious persuasion and chatting to them about their beliefs, and see if what they say fits in line with what you think Jerei would like.  Listening to a few clerics of a particular faith, and maybe a trip to the Great Library would be his best bet.

Keeping in mind that just like IRL, beliefs and dogma leave room for interpretation.  E.g. The way Daren interprets the dogma of Az'atta, *probably* wasn't what she had in mind when she thought it up.  He's a little fanatical when it comes to putting boot to arse in the name of good and for the glory of the Redemptress.  While the other Az'attites are more pacifistic in nature.

:: to squareknot :: sorry for the change up, I realized my character scores prohibit me from being a cleric as my wisdom is 9, so scratching that I guess I seek a path for my character to forgive himself and his past.

Part of my aim is to give him direction, fulfill his empty life.

Oh...One last important thing...once you start down the RP path to start becoming a wizard or whatever, you need to resubmit your character to get approval for the multiclassing, since wizard levels were not part of your original submission.
Do not take wizard levels until you have beenapproved to do so.
Also be aware that you must have at least 5 levels in each class by level 20.

Yes, I understand that. Why 5 levels?

*points up* Pretty much what he said.
It avoids situations where people take 1 fighter level and get all those free weapon and armor feats, or who take 1 wizard level so they can take the Arcane Archer class. It basically makes multi-classing into more ofcommitment than a way to get class-based bonuses.

            Ok, that makes sense. Thanks.
