    quick question about duelists
    « on: April 14, 2006, 11:00:01 pm »
I was perusing the deulist Prestige Class, and was wondering if the ranger ability to use two weapons covers the necessary Ambidexterity feat requirement.  Or would someone still have to take the feat, even if they ahad the ranger ability.

    thanks,

look in your character sheet under feats, and see if ambidexterity are listed there. If it is you should be good ;)  oh and a reminder, you wont get any of your duelist abilities if you fight with two weapons or use a shield

Nope, ranger auto feats don't work towards meeting the duelist's requirements.

One thing cought my interest, why do they even need the ambidexterity requirement if they aren't supposed to fight with 2 weapons?
    Seems redundant.

I remember GhostWhoWalks answering this question atleast twice. The feat was supposed to immitate duelist's ability to be very agile and fight in every position imaginable, even if the rapier got into the left hand during the fight.

This is a very brief summary, Ghost made a short essay about it  :p

That's what I thought, just wanted to check my suspicions. Thanks many.
And please... no essays... for at least a few more days *pulls out hair*

What Pankoki said, it does not count.
The reason is that rangers actually dont get ambidexterity feat, the get the dual-wield feat which gives them the same benefits as ambidexterity. So if you check a ranger's feats, ambidexterity wont be listed.

not only are it not listed but a ranger cant take the ambidex feat so he'll have to multi class into something else and get a feat before he can take ambidex

A ranger can't take ambidexterity? If he has the 15 Dex, I'm pretty sure he can.

can't even multi-class into a different profession to get the feat.  Last time I checked, rangers are hardcoded in Bioware to NEVER have the ambidexterity or two-weapon fighting feats show up when levelling.  I remember because a long time ago on a server far far away Lonnarin had only one offhand attack/round at 5 ranger, 5 wizard and 10 arcane archer.  Last time I levelled here with him I was curious and checked, to see that both feats were not available to select from the menu.

That's just stupid, but oh well... guess I was wrong.

That might be an old version you're referring to.  I remember playing a ranger in single player within the last year, and wondering why it showed up when I already had dual-wield.

i tried starting up a ranger in single player and he could'nt take the ambidex feat but if i multi-classed into a fighter with him then i could
