Ever wanted to recall something your 24 INT character shouldn't be forgetting? Or your Wise old cleric forgot something last week.
Under your [Game Options] section in the nwnplayer.ini add the following line:
ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1
The chat log gets created in your logs folder naturally, something like nwClient.log
If you want to keep your logs rotating so they never get erased (very handy thing or else every time you start up nwn you will lose your last log), check out this utility on the vault.

Search through text files easily:

Thanks, Orth. That log rotator is exactly what I needed.

*groans* more homework...
Ty fer the tip orth ;)

Orth, I have the following three shortcuts on my desktop for each of the three servers:
C:\\NeverwinterNights\\NWN\\nwmain.exe +connect 64.127.106.68:5121 +password layoplayer
C:\\NeverwinterNights\\NWN\\nwmain.exe +connect 64.127.106.69:5121 +password layoplayer
C:\\NeverwinterNights\\NWN\\nwmain.exe +connect 64.127.106.70:5121 +password layoplayer
Is there a way to configure the utility you posted above to direct connect in the same manner?

Seems the web link is dead...did not find the log rotator there.
Please update link or mail to me.
Thanks

I got this file (layo-west.bat) on my desktop:
@echo off
SET NWN_PATH="D:\\NeverwinterNights"
SET GLR_PATH="C:\\Program Files\\Gnomish Log Rotator"
cd %NWN_PATH%
start /w nwmain.exe +connect 64.127.106.68:5121 +password PASSWORD_GOES_HERE
cd %GLR_PATH%
glr.exe
You might want to change the paths if you have installed NWN and the gnomish log rotator somewhere else.
And change PASSWORD_GOES_HERE to the layo password
For layo-central.bat and layo-east.bat you just have to change the IP (64.127.106.68:5121) to
64.127.106.69:5121 (central) and 64.127.106.70:5121 (east)

That's very usefull Slipper for those who cannot figure it out, like me.
This is a link to Cleave. A program I use to read through the logs.

I've been using chat logging for months already and look what I've ended up with!
(http://www.tocmp.com/stuff/251104postcards/Giant%20Fir%20Log.jpg)
Now that's what I call a log!
-
Hehe
-
*looks at log and thinks* Now would that fit on my wood lathe, I could make a great lampstand outa it...
-
Bumping this due to a request.

This is a great tip...except I haven't been able to make it work. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions as I've not been able to find any help on Bioware's NWN support forums.
When I opened the nwnplayer.ini file, there was no [Game Options] section, so I created one and added the single line below it:
ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1
However, the chat log file is never updated or saved after exiting from NWN. Neither is the chat log file ever updated while the game is running. The file exists (nwClient.log) but the file size is always 0 and is always blank whenever it is opened.
Has anyone else seen this, or perhaps have any advice regarding another approach?
-
try nwn.ini not the player one..I'm not sure since I'm not on my computer right now.

Ok I Downloaded all 3 programs mentioned.
I opened nwn in clobber with Cleave open and yet no chat log.
I also logged in with the other on open and yet all chat logs are 0 KB.
Is there any chance someone can post a walkthrough for us computer dumb?

I think you forgot to add a line in the nwnplayer.ini
Under your [Game Options] section in the nwnplayer.ini add the following line:
ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1
-
I did that.
One time I got an error message.
otherwise the logs stay empty.
-
I'm seeing the same thing, the files are being created and rotated, but there is never anything there. What did I do wrong? I put the line: ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1 in both nwn and nwnplayer, but no dice.
-
recheck the number.Make sure its not a 0.
Thats what happened to me.

I can't get the GLR to work for me, having two hard-drives seems to be causing it. The creator mentioned this in the NW Vault, but didn't explain. Hrm..
Also, 'Cleave' won't work for either myself or Kindo - do the .dll files just go into the main directory, or should there be a specific folder for them? That's the only thing I can think of - what's happening is none of the text appears, only the "[Malformed Line]" - crafting, for example, or doing a jump (talking to oneself I assume). Despite all our clicking of what to show and not to show, the program won't display any text whatsoever from any log file other than this! Any ideas?

is this sepose to activate the log rotator when you exit the game? if so the it doesn't work for me? is there anythign I should be thinking off? anything else that needs to be changed for it to work?
let me know please.
-
with the chat rotator you get a nwn.exe. After you install the log rotator you should use that exe to start up the game. it will start up the rotator at the same time.
-
Also, the old IP may not be right any more.
-
any idea in getting this working on a Mac?

any idea in getting this working on a Mac?
It's an executable for which we do not have the source code. Ergo, my advice would be: write one yourself. *chuckles*
That, or write the guy who wrote it, asking for the source to port.
Edit: [flame]Or, you know, get a decent computer.[/flame] ;)
-
ouch ouch that hurts.
Guess I am writing one myself. Luckly I can use the Mac automator for this LOL
-
Done :) yay for the Mac. I will post it once I make it better.

if anyone is around i need help with this. i got the log thing going, it logs every time but it doesnt rotate and save or whatever iti s supposed to do so that we can save multiple logs. also somehow i must have clicked something because now i have all kinds of nwn folders on my desktop. any suggestions?
-
you can always go into the options and tell it to save automatically or ask to save
Personally I use ask to save and I input manually a title.
