Question about spells
« on: September 17, 2006, 12:34:21 pm »
Ok, here is my question. I hope this makes sense.

What is the difference between spells from items and spells from your spellbook?
Example: Camoflauge- From the Cloak of mysteries it says Camoflauge (5)-I think thatis right. Is it better or worse that the spell I get from my char. Cole is 12 Ranger/2 shadowdancer. Does his camoflauge get better as he gains levels? Or does it stay the same? Are there differences in the duration between the 2? What does the (5) actually mean and how does it affect my casting it?

I have come across others like this and have never known ecactly what it all means.

  Thanks for your help,

Camuflage (5) means that the spell is cast as if a level 5 did it

SO my camoflauge from my spellbook is better? Since I am lvl 12? Or is it caster level, which I wouls be, what a 4? My camoflauge is on my 2nd circle of spells, does that mean the cloak is better to use?

Sorry for the questions but I am trying to grasp this?

Thanks,

Camoflauge:
Caster Level(s): Druid 1, Ranger 1
Innate Level: 1
School: Transmutation
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Personal
Area of Effect / Target: Caster
Duration: 10 turns / level
Additional Counter Spells:
Save: None
Spell Resistance: No
The caster's coloring changes to match the surroundings, gaining a +10 competence bonus to any Hide checks.

As you see the only thing that is depended on level is the duration... So your spellbook version would last 120turns while the cloak one would last 50turns

Ok great. That helps. And I understand that  this one is only duration. I have always wondered about this. This works for scrools the same way. The number in () makes more sense to me now. Thanks for spelling it out for me. Much appreciated.

50 turns is still 50 minutes.. and since usually you'll rest more often than every 50 minutes, its somewhat of a moot point since this particular spell has such a long duration
