Title: Dead NWN :(
Post by: Thief Of Navarre on March 01, 2009, 11:42:56 am
During Pheonix's quest last night my NWN crashed... and didnt work again!

Steps taken so far:Uninstalled NWN, Ccleaned, Reinstalled NWN completely, redownloaded overrides and patched the game!

But I still cant get it to work, is there a technique for manual uninstalling NWN..? (Ccleaner will have taken care of the registry keys)? It crashes on startup to desktop and strangely enough there is not the normal 'NWN has stopped responding/encountered an error' blurb I normally get after a crash...

is it where the game seems to start, like you get the Atari logo but if you click it crashes?

Kind of; I skip the titles because I connect Via XNWNConnect. (something I failed to mention) but it does crash at the title if I try normally using the NWNmain.exe!

*edit* Yes I have tried both ways and I have even tried through Xfire's 'lauch game' mode as well..

you may have to completely clean the registery after uninstalling again. Then try reinstalling.

Using Vista, are you running it as an admin?  if not it will crash out

Hah, your right thedagda!

When I started using XNWNConnect it switched from using nwn.exe shortcut, to nwnmain.exe: the former has admin rights, the latter doesnt :)

Thank you, Ill be IG later :D

Good tip here. I don't have this problem, but I do get asked for admin rights all the time on this Vista machine so I'll try this solution.

I am dense 'cause I didn't write before checking the shortcut. I use nwmain.exe as my shortcut and still get asked for admin rights, so in my case it's a Vista security thing. I was hoping this would have gotten round it, but no.

right click on your icon, select propriety, udner compatibility check run as windows xp right under there you should see run as administrator. Select that too, and you should be good to go.
