Counterspell (again)

Okay, so Counterspelling cannot be quickslotted. It must be selected through the radial menu on each creature you wish to Counterspell against.

Here's a question, though.

In PnP, you can Counterspell with Dispel Magic. However, with 4 Lesser Dispels and 3 Dispel Magics, selecting to Counterspell on a Kenku Shaman of the Tora Clan, nothing happens.

Perhaps it was just the heavy lag, but I suppose I'll find out in an experiment Tyeaan will be doing, next time I can find another arcanist to play with.

The thing was that none of Tyeaan's Dispels were discharged in Counterspell mode, even though Kenku Shaman of the Tora Clan was casting Firebrand in the combat window. (In other words, yes, it was correctly identified.)

Any input on this issue?

Well just saying you want to counterspell and having it actually happen are two different things. Firebrand is a 5th level spell. I don't know off-hand about the effective level of that Kenku, but I'm guessing it's higher than your Level 7 Tyeaan. You may have correctly identified it, but there's still a competition between you and the other caster, so countering is not always assured, even if you have the spells to do it.

I had some difficulty with this myself.  Note that due to the way NWN handles intiative, you have to have counterspell mode active for the full round before any counterspell attempts can be made.  Also, not listed anywhere in NWN itself is the fact that dispels can only counter spells of the same level or lower.  To counter Firebrand, you will have to be using Greater Dispelling.

Also don't forget you can't counterspell inate creature abilities and I think that the Kenu invisiblity is an inate ability, although I concur with what Dorg and Rayenoir say about the other spells.
