A few new long-overdue CNR recipes
« on: June 01, 2007, 12:16:32 am »
After what seems an age, delays, reworking, more delays and just more time spent buried under other things than I care to admit, I'd like to announce a few new recipes that I have just put into the database.  These will be available as soon as the servers reset, so please no bug reports until then. ;)

Before I continue though, these items were the result of a lot of work from members of the Project Team, most notably Talan, Lalaith and Aragon.  They did a lot of work on these things and I'll admit, they're far too long overdue on inclusion. Please direct your thanks to them, and if I'd inadvertently left anyone off the list above, thank them too!

So you're probably wondering what they are. :)

Some of you may have picked up an odd horn here or there off a creature of some kind. You may have wonderd what they're for, as they seem to have little use.  Well, they can now be used to make special horns:
  • Fey Horn -- Casts Woodland Frolic 1/day
  • Horn of the North -- Summons a Krashin barbarian 1/day
  • Horn of Sounding -- Dolomar's Force Wave 1/day
  • Horn of Abyssmal Sounding -- Summons a lesser demon 1/day
The final horns are made on the Musical Instrument bench in the craft halls, and are, you guessed it, Bard-only recipes.  They depend on certain enchanted products, including the horns themselves, and those can be made on the Enchanting Bowl devices. I won't give away any more so I don't ruin the mystery and excitement of discovery.

As I said, these recipes should be available once the servers are reset.

Enjoy!

YEAH!!!!  *whipes a tear away to see his horns added*

I would like to thank - Dorg, my producer and final implimentation manager.
Lailath and Talan for their extraordinary artistic abilities.  The icons would be the same without you.
And the fawns and other creatures who so willing will donate their horns to make these items a reality.

Who ever makes the Horn of Abysmal Sounding first I wanna be there when you play it.  MWHAHAHAHAH

Whooohooo!  Farros will definitely get some use out of these, especially the summoning horns.  A few questions on RP mechanics...

1) When one summons the Krashin Barbarian, is he an actual barbarian, an ancestrial spirit type with a "soul" or a magical construct in nature?

2) In the event that he's a magical construct, will he still have a personality of a barbarian, being able to battlecry, rage and drink and such, or is he more like an unfeeling automaton like a golem?  Will getting him drunk make him "happy"?

3) Will it be considered an evil act to summon the demon with the Abyssal Sounding horn as far as good folks with Use Magic Device is concerned?  In other words, would a good cleric with Use Magic Device points possibly lose their status with their deity for using it?  How about if the demon was summoned specifically to do restitution for his bad deeds, like picking up litter or being made to sit there and listen to a Toranite sermon?

4) When the demon is done being summoned, does he go back to his abyssal plane with free will again, to plot against the owner of the horn for suffering his indignities, or is he specifically bound to that horn and vicariously its owner as well?  Does the horn grab the same demon over and over, or does it work like other summoning spells in which it's assumed that it merely grabs the closest demon?

I imagine he is a warrior who died and is summoned from his Deity's plane to fight for the summoner. So, more the ancestral spirit than the construct. Definitely not a construct. I'm thinking Valhalla to give a historical parallel.

He's definitely not a construct. Most archetypal barbarians like getting drunk so I'd say probably yes to the last question. He's definitely able to rage and such, iirc his CLASS is barbarian so you should see him using abilities like rage.

Depends on their deity... This is too deity/character specific to answer generally.

Some good aligned deities would consider summoning an evil outsider reprehensible regardless of motive while some would let motive determine whether the act was evil or not.

This isn't something like animating undead that has an inherent alignment bias built into the fictional metaphysics of the setting.

Any time a demon is killed on the prime material they return to the abyss and are banished from returning to the prime material for exactly 100 years. So, any summon can't summon a demon again if it was killed unless they wait 100 years first.

The horn in question specifically summons a random demon and you may even end up with demons of different types from use to use.

Hey all...one very important thing I forgot to mention.

If you have any of the raw harvested horns from before the 3.00.4 release, please contact a GM in-game to have them swapped out.  Though the raw horns have been in-game for some time, they were buggy at one point and had different tags/resrefs.  As a result, the CNR system won't recognize them.

Putting them through the ox pack will destroy them...so don't do it. :)

I'm sorry about this.  It completely slipped my mind when I posted above.
