Speaking for Andrew I've gotten about a bajillion xp (or, well, some fraction of that but considerable) from just roleplaying since I started in Oct.

Not to mention some excellent impromptus and forum-started quests that resulted in xp.

really grinding is maybe only half my experience - come, see...

PnP!  Come back!  We miss you!  (Especially me.  You've had such great characters.)

Here in Layo I understand some of your thoughts as how levels do not match epic status'.  This is how I see it ... this is Layonara, a wonderful gaming place that stands out above the rest, its mechanics ever changing and moving away from the DnD standard.  So do levels really have an effect on Epic-ness here?  No.  I see the levels we gain as periods of education for our characters learning new skills and feats.  Some learn faster than others, some slower. But as time progresses (gaining xp til the next level) we are out training ourselves to be better at the skills and feats we work so hard to get with each level.  Each class is totally different in how it interacts with a certain goal thus a lvl 20 fighter/weapon master can handle things so much different than say .. a bard? Its all perspective.  Epic-ness is left to those called upon that have done great duties because they strived for it and got the recognition.  Levels here are just another Grade in the School for Layonarans.  And I myself am not far off from graduating to the next learning stage of Layo-Life myself.
