Questions about changing faith
« on: September 15, 2005, 02:25:00 pm »
1)What does it take to change the faith of a character aside from a CDQ ... I am a Priest of Aeridin already.

2)WHEN I completed (hopefully) the switch over to a different god, do I have my spheres changed from Healing and Sun to whatever the Gods domains are?

3)Does anything happen during the interum of me questioning my faith with Aeridin while hearing about the beliefs of another god? Do I lose my priest abilities until the new faith is found? etc?

My in game happenings is this ... Aeridin believes in life thus killing is supposed to be a last resort type option. Vellyn has seen quite a bit of evil already and is starting to disagree with the life first concept and is beginning to think that vanquishing evil is the right way to save the lives of those good and/or innocent. He has even partaken 'in game' on his first true hunt against evil for the soul purpose of removing it. He has done this in the past, but strictly against the undead which is allowed by Aeridinites. He is feeling ashamed of what he has done not because of the action (which he is slowly agreeing with) but because he has gone against the will of Aeridin in keeping life as sacred.

[1] Any opinions are always accepted and considered and [2] could a DM please tell me how something like this would unfold from an OOC perspective ie would I lose my cleric status having lost my faith and need a CDQ to find my faith again; do I continue to be a priest and and do a CDQ to find a new religion that fits my beliefs; etc

What would probably happen as I understand things would be something along these lines.

1) You look through the CDQ request forum and find a GM that isn't flogged like a plow horse, that fits your time schedule and ask to be put on thier CDQ schedule.

2) You exchange a few PM's with the GM about what, why, and when, and in your case who to change to, then you guys set up a date to run it.

3)On the CDQ you would most likely be challenged to justify why you want to change dieties with tests of faith and probably testing your knowledge of the dogma of the diety you intend to change to.

4) At some point in time on your CDQ as you shift from one diety to another you would lose your clerical abilities. This has to be handled by YOU in an RP fashion while in game, we could de-level you and make you a fighter for a week or two, then level you back up as a cleric of the new diety after the CDQ, but it's really much easier if the GM's can just trust that you want to do this and not use spells or domain powers untill they say so again.

5) Assuming you are successfull in your CDQ you will be shifted over to your new diety and be allowed to use your new spells and domains. I think the changing of domains is a bit trickier.

Hope thats helpfull, and mostly right.

I am open to correction if I am wrong about this,   but as I understand it, one of the reasons that the Light Bringers are *ahem*  not well liked by the church of Aeridin is that they believe you should take the light of Aeridin into the darkest places.  In other words the emphasis is on taking the battle to evil wherever it lurks.  They believe (at least this is how I interpret it) that in the role of protecting life it is a good thing to remove (read kill)  things that seek to destroy life for no reason other than the destruction or enslavement of life.   In other words evil people, creatures, etc.  do not serve the cycle if they kill for no purpose other than personal gain.  The Light Bringers see it as protecting life and the Great Cycle when these entities are removed.
Having said all that,  it sounds to me like by distancing himself from the mainstream church for the reasons he has,  Vellyn could be a prime candidate for the Light Bringers.  Thus no need to change deities.    That is my 2 coppers anyhow.

But it is possible from what I have been told.  It just requires a really great reason for it to be considered.
