I really wish we'd switch to Stardates now that the whole world is networked. Julian calendar cycles of 7 days repeating makes life feel bland and repetative. Oh hey, it's Monday again! Judging the flow of time by daylight hours and moon cycles was always a losing game anyway; the only way to make that system work is to come up with periodic exceptions where we add a day, take an hour and bounce back and forth chaotically, violating the natural cycles of our biorythms and jetlagging ourselves to keep up. We're not even an agrarian society that needs to hold itself to the crop cycles and tilts of our axis any more!
Besides, I find it utterly criminal that institutions like banks who hold your money can deny you its services on a sunday or in the middle of the night on a 24/7 economy. Then when you do show up on a monday morning at 10am, they wind up being closed anyhow because its Arbor Day or Groundhog's Day. Banks seriously shut down on the very slightest excuse... one time I went to Bank of America here in Orlando and it was closed for Canadian Boxing Day. What gives?! All I want to do is cash a check so I dont get an overdraft and the bank tellers are all celebrating Canadian Holidays? And Arbor Day... like the staff REALLY need to go out and plant a tree.
Of course the bank is never too busy to hit you with an overdraft during that time, as they sit on your checks for a week before even processing them.
