Theft at the Freelancer's Tavern
« on: September 26, 2006, 08:17:05 pm »
I only wish this was the introduction to a quest, but unfortunately, it is not.
Someone broke into the bar area of the Freelancer's Tavern, and stole the contents of two chests.
We know who this person is.  We know when it occured.  We know what was taken.
This individual has one chance to come forward and admit this crime, apologize for this crime against the Freelancers and the Layonara community and return or otherwise make restitution for the stolen goods, or face the consequences of his or her actions. Send a PM to myself or Leanthar to take responsibilty for this action.
I will be keeping the name of this person private until this matter is settled.  This individual has 48 hours to come forward.
As a gentle reminder to the community, theft from other PCs is a bannable offense. We take this very seriously.

In the case I linked above.... items were returned.

They should be since the theft never should have happened in the manner it did.

*claps* Well done to whoever came forward. I hope it was all a big misunderstanding.

And kudos to the GMs, who jumped all over this in minutes.

No one has come forward yet. The theft was reported and logs were checked, and from the logs we got a name.

@Wraithdur, why?

If you look up where Dorganath posted you will see he posted it at: 9/26/2006 8:17 PM... the math says it is not even close to 'zero hour'.

*frowns*  Stealing is wrong in the first place.  Were all hear to have a good time.  When one person does some thing like this, it hurts everyone.  I am glad we have the gm team we have.

I'll put my "True" down saying it was...

    1. A newbie who thought this place was just like single player mode where chests are just a buffet line. (just like the other time it happened)

    2. They don't read the forum, thus have NO CLUE they did anything wrong because they never read the rules in the 1st place, and they don't check the forums to see what is happening in the world.

How can you not read the forums? You get so much more out of Layonara.

If there were a sane way to bring the forums to NwN in-game, we'd have already done it. Trust me on that.

In any community, the tie that binds tightest is the fundamental tie of communication. While we can communicate in game as it is (chat, shouts, quests, login messages, etc), to really introduce the community to a bigger picture of itself; you need mediums of communcation that go beyond the in-character boundaries.

Sadly, many people use video games to escape reality rather than embrace it. So, naturally, when they want to escape, they're going to close their email, close their browser, mute their instant messanger and login to the game of the moment (typically dictated by mood). They're not going to want to know or explore the real world of Layonara because that's part of what they're trying to escape. Layonara encompases many different forms and utilizes many different mediums to communicate and really solidify Layonara's existence. However, regardless of encouragement it's ultimately up to *you* to *want* to participate in Layonara the world or simply play the game of multiplayer NwN.
