NWN crashes
« on: May 26, 2007, 04:59:25 am »
lately but especially today, i experienced an unusual amount of game crashes..mostly associated with transtions and mostly with the new tile sets.

Once it took me four times to log back in during a transtion in the swamps of sorrows.

Anyone else experiencing any problems?  I know Elred did yesterday or was that today..same scenario..had to log back in multiple times to get the game to work. Happened in the Black Dogs Moors, i also in Black Dogs Moors.

Any connection to the newTile Sets or just on my side of the conection?

My laptop crashes regularly during area transitions, and it seems to be a function of how many graphics it's trying to load in the new area.  Lots of people moving around, especially with spell effects on, seems to be the main issue rather than the tile sets themselves, although perhaps some tiles sets like the Black Dog Swamps are more "graphics-heavy" than others.  I can minimize the crashing by keeping all my graphics choices in NWN to a minimum and setting the resolution as low as possible, but in battles with lots of special effects happening, my PC's still have an unfortunate tendancy to evaporate.

Disable shiny waters in the graphics settings...

That's a common cure for 85% of the AT-crashes. :)

Nope dont buy it...i'm not the only one in the same party experiencing it...and then getting stuck and not being able to log back on...that one spot in Black Dogs Moors..between first and second area ....it's bugged!

And not everyone has it happen at the same time sometimes yes and sometimes I'm not doing anything nor is anyone else but just standing there...unless of course it's not really a bug but a ghostie...either way it's a pain.

I named them Black Lag Moors for the same reason :) With my old GFX card it was horrible to go there. But lately on a somewhat more powerful computer and with Vista OS it seems to be "fixed". Although tilting the camera in Green..something swamps (the V2 platinum mine) Crashes NWN 50% of the times. And moving in those tilesets usually ends up with atleast one crash no matter what i do. But its a beautiful tileset and apparently buggy ;) So we just have to live with it. Besides its not all GFX cards - computers who has this problem. Some have problems with crashing when a simple Heal spell is cast, i dont. Its an old engine and an old game, it has its quirks. Best advice from me is to stay out of these areas until its either fixed or you for some reason learn to avoid these crashes.

My computer's pretty good for not crashing during AT's, but Black Dog does have a higher percentage than most... and a significantly higher load time.  I don't think it's a bug so much as a graphics intensive map.  Camera tilting has also been known to make my computer go belly-up... or at least move extremely slow.

It seems one way to crash the game is to view too many polygons at once...
Playing D&D 3.5e, D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and exploring Starfinder through a VTT

The Battlehelm Moors areas almost guarantee multiple crashes for me but as soon as I get out of there everything is OK again.

Yeah the tiles are lush and fun to get around in...just trying to stay there is the challenge..had to resuce more than one adventurer out of there..but then again that is an adventure in its self!!

I think ultimately NWN is indeed dated, but you get used to the glitches and bugs and have fun anyway.

See ya IG...probably stuck in the muck of the moors!!;)

disable shinny water, the water in the moors is probly doing it. then also turn down your graphics. this will all help stop crashes.
