Question about death.
« on: April 14, 2006, 06:09:11 am »
Hi there,

I'm new and since yesterday got my character created on the server. I'm still on memory lane because I could stay online that long.
I read some stuff about that death stuff of characters but i still have a question about it. just to make sure I don't brake a rule without knowing it.

If my character we to die for some reason. Do I have to re-submit my character along with it's history while on the server and a reason Why he want's to go back to the land of the living?
I mean. Do I realy have to do that every time my character Dies?
I wanna know this to prevent braking a rule.

And a second question.
if my character dies permanently. Can i create E new character that is some how related to my old one. Like his child or other relative. or does my new character realy has to be a new one? not being related to my old one in any way.

Thanks for the anwers.

First answer: No

The poor DMs would be (even more) overworked if you had to resubmit everytime your character dies. :)

That "rule" (or whatever you want to call it) is only applied to characters that has perma-died and wants to come back (only a temporary thing!).

Second answer: Yes.

Well, why not? No rule says you can't, and there are even some people playing both "parent" and "child" right now...

Heya! Glad you joined!

If you die, say you were mercially slaughted by goblins for your gold pennies in your pockets which you saved up for...Then you respawn and should appear in Hlint at a bindpoint as a "spirit" with -4 to all attributes. You can only recover by waiting for popping along to your gravestone and praying there. Then things will be back to normal!

BUT, in some cases theres a mean lady called the soul mother, she eats souls when you die. You roll a 1d100 dice, if you roll equal to your level your soul eats partly eaten and you get a death token. If you collect like...8 or 9 (I can't remember the number) then you die permantly, and can't come back.

You can then make a character that can be similar but not the same.
Does this answer your question?
:)

You can find more info about the [lore=Death System] on LORE.

Oh... And right now, the Soul Mother is on vacation, so no DTs... ;)

(want her back, though!)

I think you only need to submit an RP reason for your character's return to life on the forums when they've died permanently, otherwise you just RP their return to life in-game.  For example:  When your character is level 1-3 they don't suffer any penalty for dying, but you can (and should) still RP the trauma of their death in-game to some degree.  After level 3, the in-game system for handling death begins to actually affect your character by lowering their stats temporarilly until they reflect on their death at their grave (where they died), and they also have the chance of getting a death token (too many death tokens total means permanent death for your character).

Soul Mother is on holiday?  That explains why I always roll "100", I guess.  I had assumed there was an undocumented change that had all of the death penalties except a chance at a death token for characters over level 3 but under, say, level 7.

Please note that this is most probably only a temporary thing (DM confirmance?), because of some IG events.

When the soul mother is back, I would assume that a permanent dead character then is... well... permanently dead. :P

Hence the "permanent."

I would say it's pretty obvious what kind of music she'd listen to while on the vacation, though.  And I'd say she'd probably have fish for dinner.  "What kind of fish?"  I hear you asking.  Why, Sole, of course!
