Well put this in my "bad idea" bucket then.  Not often an idea gets this much smackdown!

The place of falling part might be the only bad part.  Monsters who killed the person would vandalize that marker.  However, a gravestone marker in a safer place with a tale on it is never a bad one.  I'm rather fond of epitaths one stones, especially humorous ones like they have outside the haunted mansion at Disney.  I could just imagine some of the more tongue-in-cheek ones.  "Everything was doing so well until the mage cast time stop on the other side of the world with his 16 boxes of gem dust." "Please don't be stepping on my head"  "Grave robbers beware, the wife and kids beat ye to it!"
