Title: New starter with trouble
Post by: Brotherkaine on November 13, 2007, 12:47:48 am
Hey, a quick question to anyone and everyone... I just got a character approved, (see approvals Kol Hardigar) and I have been trying to load the required haks on my computer (relic G4 iMac running OSX 10.4). I am currently on my 3rd attempt, at each time it seems to fail miserably. The first time I got as far as loading the game, only to have the game crash upon completion of the loading process. The next two times were met with an unfortunate event of loosing all the words on the menus, which is great if I had everything on the menus memorized, but I can't claim to have that level of knowledge of the game yet. Any ideas? Does anyone else have a Mac running OSX that is capable of loading up and playing Layonara? or is this another tragical fault of Macs and OSX? Please help... I'd really love to give Kol a chance to make her mark on Layonara. Thanks for any help!

G'day Brotherkaine,

I run NwN and Layo on my G5 iMac which is running OsX 10.3.9. Never had any issues ... I realise this is not a helpful comment apart from saying there are plenty of Mac users around and to persist cos' it's worth it when you finally work out what is going wrong.

I'll PM the link of this thread to the half dozen or so Mac users I know who are a lot more technically minded than I to see if someone can offer you some practical suggestions to implement.

Good luck!

So... Eye of the Storm finishes loading up, and then... ... ... nothing. NWN closes down, and I am sitting here, dumbfounded, looking at my desktop background. A little frustrating after a weeklong character submission process. The problem seems to stem from something in the "all in one" haks package.

Well, if it's the all in one, my advice would be to go in and download each hak separately.

Trust me, it's worth the effort.

I ran NWN a few versions ago on a G4. It ran fine but the new packs might be an issue.

Hey BrotherKaine! I know you from Exaria like 4 years ago! Unless I'm mixing handles and character names in my head...

If you loaded into the eye of the storm it's not a hak problem. My question for you is, is the red fog on the game menus (where you choose "new game" "load game" "multiplayer" etc.) moving really slow? If so it's 100% a vid driver issue.

I ran nwn on a PowerBook G4 for years and updating my vid drivers solved many obscure problems... even when there was no logical reason I should have needed to update them.

Hi, the good news is its not a mac issue alone.  I had the same problem with my PC a while back.  oddly enough, I had good access, up until my kids installed some software, then poof, I could get only as far as the eye.  The only solution I could come up with at the time, was to format my drive and reinstall.  I know thats a radical solution, but if all else fails ...

Did you try updating your video drivers? If the problem was caused by the installation of some other software it is likely to be a problem with some shared service (shared by many programs on your computer) like video drivers or directX rather than Haks or something used exclusively by NWN. Since other program's install may modify shared services but, even though it's theoretically possible for it to modify NWN's stuff, it's rather unlikely.
