Bit of a shock last night
« on: September 02, 2005, 02:02:00 am »
Got a bit of a shock last night...was online in Hlint when suddenly there were two massive (well they seemed massive anyway) explosions straight after each other which basically made our house ring like a bell.  After checking the rest of the family and ringing the emergency services went outside to see what had happened but apart from all the houses down the street having smashed windows from the blast (our double glazing survived thankfully) everything seemed normal, although there was a strange sort of smell on the air.  Anyway at first we were told that someones gas cooker had exploded and people sort of drifted back into their homes but then the police turned up enmasse and evacuated everyone.  It turns out that the guy behind us had a house packed with explosives and firearms....not sure about the details yet but we've just been allowed back, after 12 hours.

Well the good thing was that no one it seems was hurt, which is a bit amazing actually.  So just waiting now to find out more details.  I have to say its been a pretty awful month this month so far :(

Whoa!

I am glad nobody was injured! What a scare that would be.

Just found out for definate what actually happened...the guy in question was storing and manufacturing illegal fireworks in his house.   Well some of them detonated, and that was the cause of the blast then when the fire brigade found the guns as well all hell broke loose.  Especially as the london bombers were from this nearby area too.  However it seems that the weapons have licences so thats ok but he's in a lot of trouble for the fireworks business.

It was an amazing blast though...I think all the glass merchants in Pontefract will be rubbing their hands with glee this morning :)

Ah illigal fireworks, always fun... A danish guy was caught storing illigal fireworks next to his furnace... Maybe Darwin would have something to say about that...

Ah yes, that sounds like a perfect recipient for a Darwin Award.  http://www.darwinawards.com

"The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome
by honoring those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways.
Of necessity, this honor is generally bestowed posthumously."

A jeep out side my apartment sponteanously exploded in the middle of the night. Melted the car next to it too!
