    Subrace skin confusion...
    « on: September 27, 2005, 11:37:00 am »
I'm a bit confused about how subclasses work in Layonara, in particular the bit about applying "subrace skins" - are they applied *instead of* or *as well as* the normal race ability adjustments e.g. a Elf is normally +2 Dex, -2 Con, the Gray Elf subrace skin is -2 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con and +2 INT, so do they combine (i.e. a Gray Elf in game would be -2 Str, +0 Dex, +0 Con, + 2 INT) or is the Gray Elf skin instead of the default Elf ability adjustments? I'm presuming the former (i.e. they combine), but am not 100% sure...

    Thanks

    They combine.
Also note that you have to take the subrace adjustments into account when creating your character to avoid ending up with stats that violate server rules, as the subrace adjustments take place AFTER character creation.

Also remember that the stats from a special subrace do not count toward taking feats and such during a level-up. Only the base stats without the subrace skin will apply.

i.e. If you have +2 dex from a Subrace, and want to take ambidexterity, you will need 15 dex without the subraces bonus.

Thanks for the clarifications and advice about pitfalls to avoid! Will bear these things in mind.
