ls there a listing of summons and such per diety?
« on: June 09, 2006, 04:58:01 pm »
I was wondering if there was a list somewhere of which creatures spells summon by buying the brazier at a certain temple, as well as polymorphing?  And the next questions is do you have to worship that diety to use the brazier.  My character has no diety but I would like to change what creatures my spells summon and polymorph results.

Thanks in advance...

The Player's Handbook has a table with the proper list of Summons for Wizards and such, did you check it out already? :)

Nope... Exactly what I need thanks... but I guess the big question is do I need to be aligned with the diety to use the brazire from the temple?

The Censer of Arcane Devotion aligns non-clerical spellcasting with the the deity listed in your character's deity field.
Buying and using a censer at one of Lucinda's temples, for example, does not align your magic with Lucinda or give you the summons that are associated with Lucinda. Your character must already worship a deity and have that denoted in your character's deity field.
In truth, a censer from any deity's temple will work to align your magic with your deity, but it's bad form for a Lucindite to buy one from the temple of Corath, for example.

That was my question... since my character has no diety and probably never will...

Thanks

Here's a question, though - Would a character who, for example, used the brazier while faithful to Lucinda, be able to use it again if she lost faith in Lucinda to get the standard summons (had her deity field cleared)?

While the deity field is clear, the censer's effect is nil. It does not say "Align my spell casting to Deity X." It says, "Align my spellcasting to whatever deity is configured for my character". It's just a flag. It doesn't imply any other information. In the absence of a valid deity set for a character, one gets standard spell effects and standard summons.
In theory, if a Lucindite lost faith, and then eventually found faith in Aeridin, then the censer's effects would still be there. Though you bring up a good point....if the deity field is cleared, so too should the flag be cleared from the censer.

[humour]That's not possible, here on Layo. *He grins.* We (or at least, I) strive to make all questions as in-depth and complicated as possible, regarless of original intent.[/humour]
