Second Edition Layonara Campaign Handbook released!
« on: August 16, 2005, 12:10:00 pm »
Hello everyone,

It is with great pride that I can announce the second edition of the Layonara Campaign Handbook.
The plan was to have only a ‘minor’ update, but as it goes with plans, they’re good until you actually start. So, in the end, the Handbook got expanded with 140 pages.
Changes to the new edition:
  • Updated Champion descriptions
  • Updated continent descriptions for Xantril and Rilara
  • Updated several Locales
  • Updated ‘The Basics of… ‘ in the CNR section
  • Updated Timeline
  • Added Church of Lucinda and Church of Corath (Mandatory read for followers of these deities!)
  • Added Continental Maps
  • Added continental symbols
  • Added Coats of Arms and other symbols (e.g Hlint, Port Hampshire)
  • Added several of legends
  • Added several organizations (and yes, players can join through CDQs)
  • Added Constellations
  • Added many seas and oceans
  • Added Clans&Tribes
  • Added several city descriptions
  • Added 3 subraces (wemics, brownies, sea elves)
  • Added several NPCs
  • Added modified spells
  • Added Feats section
  • Added Skills section
  • Many other things
    [/list]

Some of it is also on the forums of course, like the races and the deities, but a lot of it is not. I highly recommend everyone to download it and take a look (your printer won’t survive the printing I think ;) ). I will be adding some of it to the forums over the next couple of days, for example, the constellations in the deity write-ups.  I would like to thank everyone who submitted things for incorporation, please see the ‘Credits’ section in the new Handbook for who these people are.  Then the technical stuff:  It can be downloaded in the latest files section, has 354 pages and can be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher. There’s one with white pages as well as one with watermarked parchment pages. The latter one takes more loading time on slow machines, but it looks nicer J
Also, the bookmarks tab in Acrobat Reader also work for easy navigation through the document. The search function works as well.

    Download it here.

    Happy reading!

I want to thank everybody that helped Ed "update" this release. There was a lot of great work put in to this effort.
A HUGE thank you goes to Ed!!  You are very professional and it is a great joy to work with you on this and our other projects. :)

The files that are up now contain the MS Word version, you don't want to have those as they're 90MB and run really slow, working on getting the PDFs there.

The PDF links appear to be down. I noticed they point to an FTP server using a direct IP address; perhaps the IP has changed?

        This is very cool:

"A great black cloud, or some great shadow, seemed to encircle the world one night; this disturbance was reported from many locations around the world. Research continues on what may have caused this disturbance and why it lasted for such a short time."

One of the coolest nights for us, and the first spontaneous DM appearance for us, when the Lady of the Land asked our small group to find Rhizome to warn him about Milara, just as the night became dark.

And now it's in the timeline!

        Indeed!

One of the coolest things is seeing events that your character was a part of immortilzed (is that a word) in various ways. :D

Awesome job Ed and every one who worked so hard on this. That Handbook is an incredible and indespensible reference. I am constantly referring to it during RP. Awesome awesome awesome!

Ummm, hate to bring this up, but there is a mistake in the summons of Ilsare.

In playing Vivian Elishan, I have noticed the summons are NOT

Air Mephit, Greater Air Mephit, Air collum, but rather, elven archer, Elven fletcher, elven striker. I do not know beyond there because I don't hae summon IV yet, heh.

If it is a pain to change, don't bother, but perhaps put an adendum somewhere?

I looked through the timeline and counted that Rufus is over 45 years old!

But seriously, as soon as possible I am going to read through the handbook, it should be a great read!

PS. I really love the new timeline :)

Yeah, a lot of people that started a while back are much older... it makes my head explode sometimes.

You don't even want to know how old Ta'k is now. :\\

We just put an updated one up as the Ilsare summons were incorrect, I had forgotten the wemics and the Shadow Thieves.
Also corrected some spelling, now it's really done.

Would it be possible to have the handbook printed nicely in color and bound?  I know I would pay for it and it may be a nice way to raise funds.  Is anybody else willing to pay for this service?

This is something Ed and I have/are talking about and chances are it will happen--just need to find the best way to do it and the one that is the least effort for us--then to get the time to set it up. :)

It's not exactly what you want as it is B&W with a color cover, but as far as ease of use, CafePress can publish a book for you.
