Helmet of Armor and Druids
« on: September 15, 2006, 05:32:27 am »
I began playing a druid and I just did that quest which gives that nice helmet everyone has, but.... I'm a Druid and Druid aren't supposed to wear metals.
The helmet is obviously metallic.
I have some reservation in wearing it and will not until someone tell me otherwise (though it's a nice thing, Druid can cast Barkskin quite early so it's no big deal - I know the Helmet doesn't cast Barkskin but you know what I mean *winks*).

Is customizing it to look like a hood would do? Though I just read something, while researching about the subject of this post, about wearing fullplate and making it looking like something else to pretend you aren't wearing fullplat (this was said to be real bad taste RP) so I guess doing the same with the helm is bad taste too.

Or maybe the deities that form the Layo Team could come with a cloth version of the helmet for druids *looks hopeful, but not really believing this will happen, knowing the loads of work the team have already*

*Looks puzzled* Why would a druid want to use the Barkskin in the helmet of armour when the one they cast from their own spell selection lasts longer and is better after level 6?
Doesn't make sense to me, but to answer your question, yes, modding your helmet to look like a hood is bad taste, particularly this one that is supposed to be an "armor" helmet. Perhaps sometime down the line we will add more quests for other classes, but as always, it will just be a matter of "when we have time".

the helmet can also be made from beetles as its not the most normal of looking helmets
and alot of times you use your buffs that last longer on party members so the helm comes in handy with two other spells you dont have to have memorized

The helmet is made out of metal, from the barracks of Lt. Jurzen. I doubt he is going to be using beetle parts for this helmet. I understand perfectly the mechanical benefits of using this helmet to gain one or two more spells. Yet it breaks the fundamental dogma of a druid of not using metal. There's really no room for stretching here.

In a previous module update there were a couple of chests placed around the world with treasure. Some of these have good druidical items. Of course its up to you guys to discover them, they are out there, and I can assure you, more will come in the future.

Thanks for the answer Pan. I know about the Barkskin, just wanted to be sure about the helm itself really.

There are quite a few druid staves craftable through infusing as well. In fact there are more druid staves than there are for any other one class.

Well if you want to be really puzzled...barkskin is a druid/ranger only spell. Why would a druid or ranger ever place the spell into a metal item in the first place? That to me is like a cleric of Lucinda casting bless into sacrificial dagger of evil.

That is a good point. If I played a Druid, the last thing I would do is place spells inside of metal items. I would tell the Captian, "sure I will help the malitia, but only in non metal items".

A Cleric with the Plant domain can cast Barkskin.

Barkskin is not a ranger spell in 3ED which is the ruleset NWN uses.
