Jonathan Selmek aka Daren Valhaikor aka poohbear383340 died this morning in a fatal car crash.
He was a great roleplayer and really knew how to throw you a curve. His characters were well known and quite diverse from each other.
You will be sorely missed.

Hello, all.
I worked with Jonathan and we are all deeply shocked by what happened this morning.
I remembered this evening, while trying to wrap my mind around it, all the mornings we used to talk about the quests that he was currently involved in with you all. He spoke fondly of you and urged me to join in, but I never got around to it.
I figured I would see if I could find his user name and notify the community of his accident and was touched to see the responses that are already here.
He will be missed...

Thanks for coming on and sharing that memory with us. Please express to his friends and family our deepest condolences.

Oh man.. Very sad to hear about this. :(
-
My condolences to Jil, and everyone else affected by his death. Very sorry to hear about this.

Jon and I spent many evenings chatting on Scype, writing together, talking about my old hometown (Toledo).
He and I wrote the first draft of Dregar together, the skeleton built over a massive hours-long phone call going bit by bit over the new map.
He ran my first CDQ (and my second).
He didn't take well to me joining the MMO team. Heated discussions were had. We didn't speak again after that.
And now, I really do wish I'd say hello at least once in all that time. Jil and I would chat once and a while, and she'd update me on how he was doing. When I got the IM last night it hit me.
My heart goes out to Jil, and to his family.

I am very sorry to hear this.:( I didn't know the player, but I remember meeting Daren with Jil as Daniel almost 4 years ago. I don't think he knew what to make of me, nor I him, but I still found myself alternately laughing and scratching my head.

So many memories, with him, his characters, his leaving Layo. The things we take for granted, the things we make so big yet are so trivial. A single thread of rememberence will never do it all justice, all eventually lost and forgotten until tragedy reminds us again.
Maybe an OOC wall of memory, hall of heroes, maybe these forums aren't the place for that, yet we are a community. Very hard to express myself with this on my mind.

*blinks*
Erm.....I....Yeah.....Excuse me while I go remember and likely cry a lot...Missed.... *insert word the filter deletes* straight!
If anyone has any details of the funeral it would be appreciated.

I second that.

I've just re-written this time and time again trying to find the words. I shall long remember his ready wit and generous spirit. A great RP'ing partner and a good friend, the world is lessened by his passing. Somehow, the wind seems colder tonight...
-
I'm so sorry Jil, my heart goes out to you and his other friends and family.
-
My family and I send our heartfelt condolences to Jonathan and his family.
I had the good fortune of RPing with Daren on more than a few occaisons. He will be sorely missed.
-
Jon and I talked on Skype several times after his exit from Layo. I loved RP'ing with him and Jil in the early years. He was a very nice man and I was sad to see him leave Layonara.
Jil.. you have my deepest condolences...
My prayers to his family..

This is all I have been told:
The arrangements have been made and Jonathan will be shown on Friday, 3/19/2010, from 2pm to 9pm. Family can view an hour earlier on Friday. On Saturday there will be a celebration of Jonathan's life which is to start at 11am at Jackie Selmek's home. If you are interested in going but need directions, they can be provided at the showing. Per the wishes of Jackie Selmek, no children at the viewing please. Children are welcomed at the celebration.
I forgot to say he will be at Neville's funeral home on Airport Hwy.

I'm sorry for your loss Jil, I took some time to search my chat logs for interactions with him and reflect on the man. He touched a lot of people and made this world that much more of what it has become. My condolences to you and his other friends and family.
-
Thanks for coming on and sharing that memory with us. Please express to his friends and family our deepest condolences.
I did so. And thank you to all of you. His mother was handling it extremely well yesterday. She said she remembered his late-night gaming marathons since from clear back when he was a kid and wasn't surprised that he had so many people that whose lives he had touched.
-
*sighs sadly not knowing what really to say, but thinking about a lot of the humerous moments shared during roleplay* He'll be missed.

Condolences to his friends and family.
For everyone who knew him well, do his time with you some justice and share something about it. I know that if I went, the greatest feeling would be someone I cared deeply for remembering a great moment, sharing it, and bringing tears to others - especially if in fond laughter.
-
My condolences to family and friends as well.

THANK YOU for all of the kind words about Jonathan's life and passing. His family is aware of what has been said. I am his cousin, Laura. All words and prayers have been taken warmly. Peace be with you.
