Mass Calming ability -- documentation requested

(1/3) > >>

Dorganath:
I don't think this was ever fully documented on LORE and only haphazardly done on the forums.
In the 2.96  update we added the feature whereby characters with the Animal Empathy skill or clerics with the Animal domain could have a chance to calm any hostile creatures in the immediate vicinity. This ability came up as some players apparently do not know it exists, and it does not seem to be linked into the class information available on LORE.
So, what I suggest is that someone work up a page describing the mass calming ability and then link that page to the class information for Druids and Rangers, and also link it to the information (if any) on the Animal domain.

LordCove:

As a Ranger's/Druid's ability to communicate clearly with the local wildlife grows, he/she is able to emit a particular feeling to nearby animals which they are able to pick up and translate. Whether this is merely a feeling of safety from the Druid/Ranger, or an unspoken message is passed on is uncertain. But what is certain is that the animals loose all hostile intentions to the Druid/Ranger, and will not attack unless provoked.
Exception to this of course, is if the Druid/Ranger happens to be armed whilst approaching the said creature. Also, if the person has recently ended a battle, or is still in combat with an enemy, it appear's the adrenaline and state of mind of the Druid/Ranger can no longer pass of this feeling to the animals, and again, the creature's are not affected.
It would be wise therefore, that when wandering through unknown lands, to have a Druid/Ranger in the front lines, to ensure adventuring parties no longer attack or are attacked by all the wildlife they encounter.

There's my contribution....but linking? No idea Dorg....sorry

stragen:

Priests with links to the animal world are also able to exhibit this ability.

// Clerics with animal domain also automatically use this ability.
// The success roll is based on the animal empathy skill, which is limited to Druids and Rangers.
// Clerics (without animal empathy) use the default level of animal empathy, for mass calming.

This is not 100% accurate, I think.

Druids & Rangers, in other words, the people with the AE skill itself, the AE skill modifier is used for the roll.

For Clerics with the Animal Domain, the Cleric Level, Charisma Modifier and "A constant" is used to determine the outcome (I think). Can't remember the exact formula either. :)

Dorganath:
Weeblie is correct...Clerics with the Animal Domain use Charisma rather than Animal Empathy, because they don't have AE typically.
Clerics without the Animal domain get nothing.
