Title: Through the Forest...
Post by: Acacea on March 01, 2015, 12:53:01 PM
Acacea is distracted and at times fretful, looking back the way they came as if she could tell with a glance if any souls were freed. Woven into a few of her songs for the road are what sound, for speakers of elven, like a sort of prayer for a goddess to be on the watch for another soul. When given the opportunity she scribbles on a rumpled parchment, seemingly in half swirlies and stick figures and the rest some sort of notes. For any glancing over her shoulder they are barely decipherable not because of mystic arcane runes or the like, but because her handwriting is atrocious. She is apparently making notes on the portal and the wards in the room they returned from, though off to one side there are a few different spellings of the name "Aedan" originally gave, as if she tried to connect some significance to the choice. When the choice of who carries the package comes out, she lingers around Daniella whether welcome or no, trying to listen for any traces of magic that may not have been present around the woman before. If asked she seems to be of the opinion that for all she knows it could be radioactive itself, and is just attempting to listen for leakage. What riddle did you mean, Brisbear? she asks abruptly at one point, without context.

Post by: Alatriel on March 01, 2015, 02:15:49 PM

Daniella does not seem disturbed by Acacea's closeness, though she also keeps the book hidden and close to her at all times tucked away inside her pack.

Post by: Acacea on March 01, 2015, 07:06:43 PM

It's very loud, she says helpfully to Daniella at one point. You may as well be carrying a banner. A loud and sneezy banner.

Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 01, 2015, 07:07:09 PM

While travelling with the group after the ordeal in the Athenaeum, the woman in black keeps to herself, observing the others.  She maintains a passive curiousity regarding Daniella, knowing she possesses the "book," but also a compassionate concern for Acacea, confounded by he sullen nature during this journey.  She bides her time, not wanting to disturb either of them, and is content to practice her sword work and exercise when the party is not on the move or sleeping.

She looks down at Acacea.  "What's loud?"

Post by: Acacea on March 01, 2015, 07:56:19 PM

The thing in your pack, she answers conversationally. It's loud like dwarves locking shields, like doors slamming. It's less loud like other things, too.

Her brow furrows as her thoughts bounce from one thing to the other. Was there a significance in him standing next to the other thing behind Milsy? We've killed a lot of those other things. I'VE killed a lot of those. Ish. Some. A few. Is he not unique? Was he a goal? Were they ALL people? Is he... turning elves or something? Her thoughts trail back to silence, though the path they take does not seem a pleasant one.

Title: Daniella nods with the first
Post by: Alatriel on March 01, 2015, 08:30:00 PM

Daniella nods with the first part of Acacea's reply.  "I can feel its power.  It's uncomfortable.  The sooner it's somewhere safe, the better."  She gives Acacea a confused look as she continues on.  "Are you talking about Milara, or just random jibberish?"

//Edit:  Sorry, misunderstood something.  Fixed now.

Title: Her feet pause in their steps
Post by: Acacea on March 01, 2015, 08:42:14 PM

Her feet pause in their steps at the question, her dark eyes refocusing. She blinks and then continues onward with a smile. I'm sure it was random gibberish - I'm clearly transparent. Clearly transparent, get it? Right? I try to throw it in there, y'know. Keeps people on their toes. By Milsy I meant Milara, yes!

Meandering more over to the druids, she asks, So, are we tree-walking out are taking the long way and where exactly is this being taken in either case...?

Title: Forests picks up on the
Post by: mixafix on March 02, 2015, 08:34:31 AM

Forests picks up on the question to the Druids. "I cannot speak on the others behalf, indeed I would not. However I have to say I don't imagine the book will be going anywhere near tree travel. Indeed such a thing may not even be possible. I certainly don't consider it wise. The Bird Lord has committed to returning the book to Milara so I suppose that is where it is going.

She continues to scan the woods seeking signs of danger and what reaction there is to the passing of the 'loud book'.

Anyway who was standing behind Milara ?

Title: Daniel takes up a guard
Post by: cbnicholson on March 02, 2015, 08:35:46 AM

Daniel takes up a guard position near to Daniella, moving in and out of earshot as she deems, but keeping a sharp eye on her surroundings.  At the mention of the book's evil, he asks those present, "Is there a chance of that the book itself is aware of us?"

Title: She nods agreeably with
Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 09:45:30 AM

She nods agreeably with Foresta's comment about attempt to treewalk with the book, and then rubs her cheek at Daniel's question, considering. I don't think so, at least not in the way I think you are thinking, Moustache, though nothing is impossible! But in the sense that a bajillion wards might sense intruders, very probably! It's hard to say, are the paladin alarms going off because of where it was kept and what it was used for, or something intrinsic to its very being? Does knowledge alone trigger them? Doubtful! Plus, it's so loud it could be the things around it, too. Couldn't tell ya, 'specially not from here.

She glances to Daniella's pack and then sighs. Definitely loud like slamming shut, not rattling to be opened, though.

Title: She looks at Daniel.  "No, I
Post by: Alatriel on March 02, 2015, 09:32:59 AM

She looks at Daniel.  "No, I don't think the book is aware of us.  However, I do think it is a powerful tool for the wrong sort of person.  I will take it somewhere for safekeeping until a more permanent solution can be sought.  I'll take it there straight away."

Title: Of course she will, Acacea
Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 09:45:19 AM

Of course she will, Acacea mutters dryly.

Foresta's question seems to register belatedly, and for a short time it seems like she may not answer. Out of order she finally says, I don't know. A thing. A thing that used to be a barmy elf. Sin'dolin died during the assault on Milsy's bloodpool and though they tried to get his body out they were forced to leave it behind. What's left of him is... that. Thing.

Another pause, and then she laughs. He was so crazy. An absolute addlecove. Threw a golem at the Long Storm. Hit his head on doorways because he forgot he was riding his horse on his way in. Heh heh.

Title: "I would expect nothing less,
Post by: cbnicholson on March 02, 2015, 10:51:01 AM

"I would expect nothing less, Commander.  I was merely concerned about the possibility of possession or corruption." He glances at Acacea worriedly. "How loud is this book precisely to your fine senses?  Also, I am fairly certain many of you felt it, but I wonder if Milara did not attempt some form of compulsion upon us as a group, a geas, to complete this quest?  I sensed some divine force flow out whilst we spoke to him.  You, specifically, Commander, may find your free will suspect at the point of disagreeing with returning the book to Milara, should you consider it."

Title: "Whatever you do, don't read
Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 02, 2015, 11:13:12 AM

"Whatever you do, don't read it," the woman says, suddenly standing beside Daniel.  She throws back her eerily black hood, revealing herself.  Her face is plain, no make up or disguise, and her violet eyes seem locked on Daniella's pack momentarily, before looking away from it, glancing between Dan, Dani, and Chimes.  "I've heard too many stories at my mother's knee about the madness associated with such cryptic texts.  I half expect tentacles to jump from it's pages and dragging the reader into the madness of its pages, or some gaping maw."

Title: It is loud going in, not
Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 11:13:42 AM

It is loud going in, not going out. Mostly. It's loud like Rofi's vault shouting "here I am, thou shalt not open." Lock-loud. I mean... like Rofi's vault did until it got cracked. There's other stuff but I couldn't tell ya if it's leftovers or part of it. Mostly sneezy. She rolls her eyes a little at the warning. I'm sure we are all keeping tentacles in mind.

She shifts uncomfortably at the mention of divine force and doesn't comment, though she appears to be listening.

Title: "I too felt a Divine force
Post by: Alatriel on March 02, 2015, 11:14:00 AM

"I too felt a Divine force during the meeting, Captain, but it was centered on the Lady Acacea.  And, no, I have not felt my free will or judgment impaired in any way due to anything that Milara did."  She looks over at Tyra.  "No one is going to even open the book, let alone read it.  And please, Tyra, back up.  I have no intention of you trying to steal it either."

Title: Yeah, you better back up. The
Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 11:30:35 AM

Yeah, you better back up. The white charger gives them authority over anyone and everyone they please, regardless of what enables their actions, and discussion is a compromise that simply cannot be born! Even wiping their arses is a holy cleansing. She winks to Tyra.

Title: "Duly noted, Commander."
Post by: cbnicholson on March 02, 2015, 12:18:42 PM

"Duly noted, Commander."  Daniel's sword is half out its sheath before he hrrmphs and sheathes again at the sudden appearance of Tyra.  He interposes himself bodily between Daniella and Tyra, turning to Daniella, "With your permission, Commander, I will pray for the All Seeings sight and blessing upon you?"  He appears to be fighting back a slight grin at Acacea's comment.

Title: She scoffs, visibly insulted
Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 02, 2015, 12:18:45 PM

She scoffs, visibly insulted by the insinuation of her commiting a theft of the book.  "You two seriously need to relax.  I have no intention of doing anything to or with that book, except perhaps destroy it if allowed."  She rolls her eyes but does not move from where she was standing,  "If after all these years you seriously think I'm up to no good, just stick your swords in me already and send me home."  She pulls down on her collar, exposing the ring of thin scar tissue around her neck.  "Remember when I got this one, Daniel?  The scars would go well with together."

Title: "Who knows what foolishness
Post by: cbnicholson on March 02, 2015, 12:24:14 PM

"Who knows what foolishness goes through your head at times, Tyra.  As for your scars, they are the price of your past follies as are my own.  If you and Acacea wish a discussion, I would be open to such.  For now, Champion Daniella possesses this grimoire and will remain its keeper until an ordered civilized discussion to the contrary is decided.  That is how I see my duty, mock all you wish."

Title: "In case you haven't noticed,
Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 02, 2015, 12:30:50 PM

"In case you haven't noticed, beyond my initial offer to assist in the acquisition of said grimoire, the only mention I gave of the book was regarding my thoughts as to the nature and danger of its contents, sensible or otherwise.  That said, I am all for a discussion about what to do with it, though I am also fairly certain its fate unfortunately lies in the hands of Milara.  Now, my thoughts on what should become of it have been clear from the moment we were sent to find it, but I also swore to do whatever Plenarius decided to do with it."  She then folds her arms.  "So shall we begin the discussion or has the Toranite jumped in rank and is making the decision for us?  Her talk of taking it someplace safe seems to imply she will not be bringing it to Milara."

Title: Mildly... It's not like I
Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 12:37:43 PM

Mildly... It's not like I have a lot of faith in her ability to not be silly in some way or another, but from where I was standing she tried to participate in a conversation that so far has been dictated by absolutes and half-drawn swords, to the point of being accused of something ridiculous, as if only the bearer could be trusted. Maybe in tin-can world that's considered civilized. She grins...

Post by: cbnicholson on March 02, 2015, 12:38:28 PM

"A fair point, Tyra."  He regards Daniella thoughtfully before speaking, "Is this something you will clarify here, Commander, or do you feel the danger too great?  As I spoke in the chamber, so I will say here - Trust in Toran.  Milara's greatest evil is to sow discord among us." He looks pointedly at all them.

Post by: Alatriel on March 02, 2015, 01:17:21 PM

After ignoring the insults and side comments, she simply says ,"The Bird Lord knows where I am taking it for the time being, and he has agreed.  He and I both said we would retrieve the book.  We never told Milara what we would do with it afterward."

Earnestly... I'm so glad Your Worship has deigned to share her crumbs of information with the peasants. Shall I polish thine armor, Lady, that it might better highlight your shining presence, or shall we merely trudge after whilst you lead us hapless fools onward into the darkest night, lance blazing with your golden righteousness?

Title: She gently places a hand on
Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 02, 2015, 01:32:50 PM

She gently places a hand on Daniel's pauldron so as not to startle him.  "Daniel, you once placed faith in me, a faith that I took for granted and probably will never deserve again, but I promise you I do not wish for distrust among us.  I simply am here to assist in whatever is going on, which to be frank I am still confounded by all this.  I've seen people glowing, heard about this fastrot melting people, got thrown ten or more yards across a cave by a glowing rock I admittedly should not have tried to touch, and bore witness to probably one of the most tongue and cheek diplomatic meetings the world has ever seen (or at least that I have."  She then takes a breath and looks at Daniella. "I am not here, however, to be unduely insulted.  I'm more than aware of the reputation I bare with me from my youth, but I am now a faithful, loyal, and trustworthy servant of King Bydell and Taur'en.  So if we're taking it anywhere, it won't be  to Taur'en.  If Milara wants to start a war in order to attain or after attaining it, it won't be starting there.  And furthermore, while I'm glad the Bird Lord and Her Ladyship," gesturing at the Commander, "are aware of this items destination, Milara is still going to expect it, and even intercept it when you and Plenarius think you've 'succeeded' with your scheme.  Our agreeing to fetch the book from the Athenaeum carried with it the implication that we will give it to him afterwards.  Whether or not you overtly agreed to those terms, those were the terms upon which he gave us the location and the map.  So claim whatever righteous hill to build your ivory tower upon, Milara wants that book.  Be prepared from him to come for it, should it please him to do so."  She then glances at Dani, Daniel, and Acacea, and a strange confounded look comes over her face.  "Hells, this is the most the four of us have talked in years!  Why aren't we sharing goings on and having a nice drink?  Why does it always boil down to arguing before the tea kettle even whistles?"  She then wanders off to grab a bottle of ale from Kurn.

"Kurn, you ale-sodden, blood thristy, good for nothing!  Where's the ale!"

Post by: cbnicholson on March 02, 2015, 01:30:22 PM

Daniel simply nods, accepting this answer as enough. "Does that satisfy the both you?" He asks of Acacea and Tyra.   He continues to provide a very visible presence near to Daniella.

Title: "To be clear, no, it does not
Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 02, 2015, 01:41:40 PM

"To be clear, no, it does not satify me.  Her and Plen having 'a plan' that no one else is aware of (or that I was not privvy or paying attention, whichever applies) does not amount to a discussion.  It amounts to the 'Commanding Officers' giving orders and the 'soldiers,'" she gestures to those assembled, "doing as their told whether they agree or not.  And since last time I checked the Commander did not hold a rank within the Taur'en military, I do not feel compelled to accept her 'plan' at its face without at least being informed of it.  I said I would do whatever Plenarius thinks best.  That does not mean I will not argue my point or wish to know what exactly it is that he 'thinks' is best.  Cause I sure can't do something if I'm not told what it is."

Title: Daniella stops walking and
Post by: Alatriel on March 02, 2015, 01:38:49 PM

Daniella stops walking and turns to face Acacea fully, her expression calm, yet serious.  "You have already said this thing is 'loud'.  Would you prefer that I yell to the treetops where I plan on taking it?  Perhaps I should draw a map also so that everyone can follow?  Would you like to follow the example of others on this venture and give the enemies every piece of our intended actions to make their job all the more effortless for them to find it and get what they want?  I am sorry that you feel slighted, Lady Acacea.  I am sorry that you feel that I have overstepped my perceived bounds, but no I will not discuss this in the open with a group of people that have not agreed on much of anything since the outset.  If you would like to discuss anything with me in a calm, less insulting manner in a more private setting, I would be happy to indulge you.  But as you still have yet to tell me or anyone else that I know of what manner of Divine power was so suddenly flared up around you or why you have acted even stranger than usual on this entire trip, I don't feel so inclined to indulge your insults and whims any further in this setting by telling you what I plan on doing."  She then turns and continues walking in the same direction as she was before.

Post by: ShiffDrgnhrt on March 02, 2015, 01:46:14 PM

"Shall I begin this weeks group therapy session?  Let's start with trust falls.  Catch me, Daniel!"  She then goes limp, throwing herself in Daniel's direction, bracing for impact with the ground.

Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 01:55:53 PM

No. It doesn't. But my opinion does not seem to matter, here, nor anyone else's besides Feathers and the Arse in Shining Armor.

She looks amused when Daniella turns to speak at her. Stranger than usual? You do not know so much as a single page in my story, whatever your uncurious mind assumes from the illumination on the cover. I thank the holy lord for his compassion in the face of old friends paraded before surprised halflings, though, as well as fear for the souls of those chained by enemies against their will, or for those having an uncertain footing in matters divine. At least, I assume that all the eye rolling, jaw clenching, and random accusations are your form of compassion...

Plenarius does not speak for me, but that doesn't matter, here... she turns her head at this, seeming saddened, and falls back to keep further thoughts to herself. She rummages around in her sleeve to find parchment and scribbles at it as if trying to work out a problem; this has an adverse effect on her ability to navigate obstacles, and she occasionally trips over stones or exposed roots, or walks into trees.

Title: Plenarius keeps quiet but
Post by: orth on March 02, 2015, 02:03:18 PM

Plenarius keeps quiet but listens intently to the words and emotions coming from each of them. Instead of being so focussed on what Daniella's carrying, however, he seems to be more intent to travel closer to Brisbane with heightened awareness, quietly whispering with her out of ear shot.

He speaks at one point, "The plans are out of my hands and I shall not interfere now. Daniella retrieved the artifact and I've no regard to wrest them through any means into my own possession. I trust they will keep safe." He pauses. "If Milara feels I made him a deal to get them back then I will answer to that."

Post by: IceDragonDuvessa on March 02, 2015, 02:08:32 PM

Bris walks on mostly silently, listening to the conversations around her and shaking her head with a little chuckle here and there.

"Tree walk? No, time is not of the essence at this point and with the strain it put on me BEFORE we acquired the book I can be nearly certain that I would not come out the otherside in much good shape."

She watches Dani and Acacea arguing and then looks over to Tyra and Daniel and then back and forth between the groups simply taking it in. Finally she comes back to something Acacea had said earlier.

"Riddle?"

"Bother." As Tyra bounces off the ground and Acacea makes her speech.  Seeing no immediate threat to the Commander, he does make an effort to keep Acacea from falling off a cliff or walking into trees overly hard.  "That." pregnant pause, "Was exactly what I was hoping to avoid, Chimes."  He continues on the march, saying very little unless spoken to.

Post by: orth on March 02, 2015, 02:51:46 PM

At one point Plenarius ascends and disappears into the canopy. Those with a high spot may note he settled upon a strong branch and dug through his pack.

He returns about a half an hour later catching up with the march. He blesses the company and takes up a new place walking backwards in front of Acacea. Smiling down to her he offers a quick wink.

"Actually," Daniella says, pausing, "that's a good point.  Is there any way to perhaps make something that could act as some sort of magical decoy?  Then perhaps we could split into two groups.  One could go one direction and one could go to the actual location.  It may not be possible or it may not make much of a decoy, but it would be better than continuing on like this.  Like this we are slow and completely obvious."

Post by: mixafix on March 02, 2015, 03:57:24 PM

Foresta keeps pace with the group, often looping around the group in various forest forms that seem to suit the region. She seems more interested in the woods at large rather than the lively debate to and fro. However she surfaces long enough to see Plen walking backwards. She shrugs, eyebrows firmly arched,  and asks of the group at large "Do you recall Milara invited us to take anything we found we wanted as he had no interest. Given his detailed knowledge of the book location it seems remiss of him not to realise that would have likely left us trapped there or indeed dead. So to take up an earlier point about what he really expected us to do - Did he even expect us to get out? I'm confused as to what he really expected. As it stands it does not entirely make sense. But that fits in with the group so far. So where are you going again and for why?

Title: She takes a deep breath and
Post by: Acacea on March 02, 2015, 04:07:24 PM

She takes a deep breath and lets it out before volunteering a response.

People should be careful trying to assign motive to Milara. The guy could write the Good Lord's book. If he sends someone out to get something, then receiving it is likely a pleasant side benefit to the actual purpose, which some of us were discussing before all this occurred. There could be any number of actual reasons that I couldn't begin to narrow down.

For just a few random possibilities... he is too tied up with his own doings to do this himself. Kinda funny that our previous investigations pointed to us being interested in those doings, but we go somewhere else instead. It could also be something in the library - that vault is prolly intact and we took out the guardian, so he may have wanted access to something else entirely.

He may have wanted to gloat. I don't know.
She glances back down. But no one else here does, either. My point is only that he tends to set up win/win deals.

Tyra watches Plenarius ascend in to the canopy, then stops to watch him, curious as to what he's rummaging for. (21 Spot)  Once she's satisfies (or fails to satisfy) her curiousity, she trails behind the party, keeping any eye out for danger.  She does her best to remain as hidden as possible while still keeping up with the group.  She lets the eerie magic of her cloak cast its shadow over her.  If she catches Acacea in a good moment, she asks her, with respect but also an air of playfulness, what the magic of her equipment sounds like.

It's not really loud from far away. Like going in and out of a whisper ward. It's kinda fun, really. LOUD LOUD LO- .... OUD LOUD L- you get me. Uh. Maybe. Never mind. She looks askance to Tyra at her question and after a moment answers with a mouth-only half-smile. Like furtive shadows in the desert at noon, wanting to be in the sun.

She stops and turns in a circle and then walks away with a wave. I am going to visit Ozlo. I will see you all... some day, I suppose.

Acacea flashes a smile over her shoulder at Katelyn. Alone I don't have to worry about keeping anyone else safe.

Despite implying that she'd be fine, she certainly does not forbid any company, but rather slows to allow keeping pace if someone seems to be trying to follow. If Katelyn chooses to accompany her, she sings here and there along the way and goes around potential obstacles to Ozlo's tower.

(If Kat goes with Acacea I'd appreciate hooking up for a conversation, or even PMs/IRC/ForumThread if convenient :) )

Stalled once more she pauses to respond, seeming a little out of sorts by the whole not-walking-off thing, and gives Bris a funny look over her shoulder. What's that got to do with anything? I still visit !

While still not denying anyone's right to go in any direction they please, even hers, there is an awkardness about her in company that she tries to banish with little singsongs and greetings to animals or familiar trees on the way.

Unless there is anyone that truly puts up an effort to stop her, Daniella continues on however long it takes to get to her destination of Huangjin and the Citadel of Toran.  She won't put up any resistance to anyone who leaves before they get there or ever fully state where they're going, but anyone who knows geography would likely figure it out.  If nothing else, boarding the ship headed for there would likely be a good indicator.

Foresta watching the group decide on their respective journeys turns to Plen to seek confirmation. "My understanding was you had agreed  with Milara to take this book to a meeting with him. If this is not the case -  where is the book going?

where are you going? and how do you think this action will affect the greater balance?

Do you think Milara will consider the status quo ended...will he be on the move?

It's difficult to commit to well anything really but here now it all seems so uncertain."

Post by: orth on March 10, 2015, 11:18:17 AM

Plen has been darting up and away every now and then into the canopy of the Great Forest. As the group approaches Hilm Castle he notices the strength of the company has diminished somewhat and he returns to the ground to walk with them.

He speaks stoicly. "The safety of the artifact is paramount. I will continue to journey with you to get it to a safe place. As for Milara, there was never any agreement on how soon we return the item. In fact to be quite frank I'm not sure what we actually agreed upon. I also want to study it myself once we reach a safe place. Through Her divinity, I've some skill in ascertaining magical properties."

"I counsel we travel to Miritix then take Abiorn's portal to Center then travel to Moraken's and take the portal outside his place to Tilmar. I'd rather not be on the seas much and I also feel like the journey from Center to north of Hlint will be fraught with the least peril as well as possible allied escapes or perhaps even counsels with the Silkwood Witch and Moraken himself or guarded towns such as Fort Wayfare, Krandor and Fort Llast."

Plen thinks for a short while and finally speaks up. "I would prefer we not have to deal with any keepers of gates or other bureaucrats who may wish to observe things in the castle. There could be odd reactions and danger involved with portalling with such an item and we risk having to declare its possession amongst us. The fewer people who know, the better."

"I stand by my original suggestion. The distance from Center to Hlint is expedited by century old roads and fairly flat lands. It is a road all of us are very familiar with and we could move at a keen pace, even mounted if we wish."

// Assuming no one objects to the plan as laid out above...

With the path planned and a purpose in direction, the group makes their way generally south through the Great Forest. Your path is anything but typical, however. Within a few nights, those on watch catch flashes of unexpected lights, sounds of someone or something moving in the brush and seemingly not far outside of firelight and the growls of creatures that seem neither natural nor native to the Great Forest. In the morning little to nothing can be found of such things, but for things like footprints, trampled foliage and the occasional pool of blood or the remains of half-eaten animals. One grisly find after setting out one day is a pair of bloodied spears planted in the ground and crossed in front of their path, an eagle impaled upon each. Some nights, however, are silent...eerily silent...without a trace of movement seen or heard but for those the group makes themselves.

Perhaps the most gruesome find comes when the group happens upon a hunter's shack. The door to the shack is painted in blood, and the hunter to whom both shack and blood likely belonged is found nearby, staked to a tree. Other distressing finds include various animals broken but purposefully left alive.

The noises at night become a regular thing. The grizzly finds less so, but they all begin to wear on your moods, resolve and mental state. Lost rest due to sounds at night also begin to take their toll as well. However, through all of it, you never face a direct confrontation with any of those responsible. Giants and other denizens of the forest are easily seen and avoided, should you choose, but these other things seem to follow you...or lead you...all the way to Hilm Castle.

It is simple enough to avoid the Castle, or at least avoid engaging the authorities there, should you choose.

Moving through the Hilm Protectorate seems peaceful by comparison. Nights are as they should be, and days bring no unexpected (or at least no gut-wrenching finds). You are able to rest well, and there are no signs of being followed...or led.

The last few days outside of Miritrix unfortunately see a return to the first part of the journey, with gruesome finds apparently meant just for them. Yet despite the portentous nature of these omens, the group comes under no direct threat of harm.

You all eventually arrive at Fort Miritrix and the house of Abiorn...

// For this next step, we're going to need a "marching order"...who goes through the portal first? Most importantly, we need to know where Daniella is in the order.

Title: Plen stifles a tired chuckle
Post by: orth on March 16, 2015, 10:41:00 AM

Plen stifles a tired chuckle as he makes his way into Abiorn's. "It seems as though Chimes has somehow beat us this way. Perhaps she awaits in Center." He doesn't remark on how he knows this but returns his thoughts to the task at hand.

"I agree with the Commander that it'd be wise to leave both ends guarded and have her departure being midway in the line. Foresta does raise a valid point that there may be some odd reaction to these particular portals as opposed to the one we first used, but I think that's a chance we'll have to take."

He takes another moment to think that speaks up again.

"Perhaps it would be wise that someone maintain a personal connection to Daniella as they pass through the portal. If you wish Commander, we could enter simultaneously, hands locked. Thus if some sort of unwanted redirection occur it would be the two of us at least."

"There's no doubt that we're being watched. I wonder if the watchers are intending to waylay us somewhere or simply just continue to watch. I know not what level of battle we may face if attack is on the horizon."

He strokes his chin thoughtfully and continues.

"Perhaps it wise that those who have steeds would travel mounted. Speed and escape may need to be planned. I believe my horse is grazing somewhere near Center. Commander Stormhaven, of course, can call hers at any point. Maybe we should cross that bridge when we all reach Center. Though we should leave that peaceful area and its villagers as soon as possible."

"The order  for travelling through the portal I'd suggest is Grog, Foresta, Daniel, Daniella and myself, Griff, Zig, Iron." // If I missed anyone I didn't see your post saying you're with us.

One by one, the first group steps into the portal, first Grog, then Foresta and finally Daniel Benjamin, each prepared and readied for conflict on the other side...

One by one, figures emerge from the portal site in Center...a hulking figure known as Grog, a large, fearsome winged creature and a knight clad in armor. Each emerges to find the usual hustle and bustle of Center.  Even remaining watchful for some time, you perceive no threats of any sort.

You do notice one other thing, however... No one follows Daniel Benjamin through the portal.

// Grog, Foresta and Daniel, your part in this episode is now concluded, unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks for your continued participation.

------------------------------------------------

As Daniella approaches the portal, the dark book clutched tightly in her arms, with Plenarius holding onto her and moving to the portal, all seems normal.  However, when she makes contact with the edge of the portal's magic, it flares brightly and detonates thunderously, and she is thrown backwards violently, as if struck in the Torso by a mighty blow, landing in a heap on the other side of the room along with whatever else she impacted along the way. Plenarius, given his physical contact, bears a fraction of the force, but is also knocked back and off his feet. The others nearby bear some of this force as well, stumbling back and shielding their faces.

((Anyone standing directly behind Daniella or Plen will get bowled over))

When everyone's eyes adjust from the brightness of the blast, the room is a mess of books, parchments, debris and dust. Daniella is bruised, battered and sore. Though not seriously harmed, it takes her a little time to recover from the impacts. Everyone else sustains minor injuries, but nothing of concern.

The portal is gone.

Daniella lays still for a few moments, wind knocked out of her, as she struggles to regain her breath.  Eventually, she winces and rolls over, sitting up to look  over at where the portal used to be.  After another pause, she quietly looks around to see if anyone else is hurt.  Then, she looks back at the portal, and over at Plen.  "We may need to revisit the ship idea."

Plen removes some parchments strewn about on top of him, his face appears tired and angry. He assesses the health of the party from a glance and shows a slight sign of relief.

"So. Now we remain five. We either travel to Nith and stay on the seas longer or begin the walk to Arnax and make our seafaring the shortest. I can only assume our party ahead of us will ascertain something failed and will attempt to meet up with us on Tilmar."

"Commander I believe it would serve you well to summon your warhorse. We need to travel at a heavy pace with little rest save for when absolutely necessary. I will be ready to fly with you at a moment's notice."

"We should get one last good rest in."

He turns to the dwarves.  "Prepare your weapons and search your packs for your favourite marching boots. There will be battle, a gruelling pace and much weariness. Nesar can be most unwelcoming at the best of times and now we draw even greater interest. The quicker we move, the better."

"So then, which way?"

Daniella shifts with a soft groan and rolls her left shoulder, eliciting a bit of a grinding sound, then she rubs the back of her neck.  "I don't want to go through Arnax.  I would rather brave the seas from Nith than go through Arnax with its Corathite ties.  The Queen isn't exactly a fan of mine either.  I think the sooner we are out of Nesar the better.  I'll call Victory to speed us up, surely, but we can also see if there are horses we can purchase here in town for the others."

Daniel turns to the portal looking expectantly at it for a few moments after noting no threats on his side.  When Daniella fails to come through after several long moments, he turns to the two remaining companions in hushed tones.  "It seems your instincts were correct, Miss Foresta.  Fortunately, we have some idea of where they are going.  We should make for Hlint and its portal to Huangjin straight away, from there we should be able to meet them eventually." He looks at each gauging their willingness to follow his lead or offer an alternative.

We should make for Hlint and its portal to Huangjin straight away, from there we should be able to meet them eventually."Daniel concludes.

Foresta, the threat of flight and danger past, has without conscious thought returned to Druid shape and is wearing a splendid - I told you so kind of face. "Time enough to review my garden here first I think, we are rather out the game now. Someone has got there way! ....I am just not entirely sure who all wanted it so." She sets off to inspect some plant life in the south east of the bustling community. "We will be on the endless road soon enough I am sure." she throws over her shoulder apparently disinterested in the bustle of the chase.

Title: The loose plan of travel
Post by: Dorganath on March 27, 2015, 12:00:00 AM

The loose plan of travel eventually takes the remains of the party to Nith.  The way is not without its perils, however, over and above those that would normally be experienced along that road.  As their path takes them close to the Nesar-Kuhl frontier, Zigruum's dragon form is attacked from forces inside of Kuhl unless he takes care to fly high enough or far enough away from the border to be out of range of their weapons.  The gruesome experiences at night continue and escalate somewhat especially on moonsless or cloudy nights, making getting good rest somewhat difficult. This weighs especially heavily on Daniella, whose self-appointed burden of the notebook adds an extra layer to the toll of travel.

However, they all arive in Nith, relatively unscathed but road-weary and quite exhausted.  After some negotiation (which probably goes better for the Captain than for the group), they are able to secure passage to Stort on a vessel owned by the Raven Trade Guild. The voyage itself is uneventful, but it also lacks comforts, being primarily a cargo ship that is ill-equipped to carry guests that are not part of the crew. Daniella's stewardship of the notebook continues to affect the quality of her rest, at least until she is able to convince herself that every unfamiliar noise, voice and movement on the ship is not a threat.

During the voyage, there is nothing unexpected, and except for a few brief but moderately powerful storms, the months-long sail to Stort is relatively uneventful. No one makes an attempt on the notebook nor even shows any sign that they know Daniella possesses it. They arrive in the port on Alibor somewhat rested, in fact, and from there, they are able to book passage on a somewhat more comfortable vessel to the port of Huangjin on Tilmar.

A couple of weeks later, give or take, they arrive in Huangjin. Daniella (and whoever else accompanies her) makes her way to the Citadel. On her approach, she notes that security seems to be somewhat elevated.  Inside the central hall, she is greeted by Ortheus.

"Welcome to the Citadel, Commander Stormhaven," says the priest as he guides her toward the back. "It seems you were expected."
