Please Take the poll and then Answer these questions. It will help me solidify a strong RP foundation for Layo. Add poll options if you think they should be here.
Here is the question for the poll: What would create more Roleplaying in Layonara?
Vote for all the answers you think would work best. The first five questions are written by me, please add any suggestions to the poll then answer the following questions. The more people that answer them, the better roleplaying world we can create.
Please answer these questions:
1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)

Layonara does have an incredibly strong player base of good roleplayers. I was one of them. I believe that this is NOT the problem here. I have seen very few people who completly ignore their RP, who don't care about their RP, and who don't take suggestions when they are given.
I think what scares alot of people away is the lack of progress. It is very hard to actually GET anywhere in this game, and though that is not necessarily bad (infact, I was glad for it) it can make things VERY frustrating.
-
I agree that Layonara has a phenomenal Roleplaying base of players. I simply want it to be even better. More RP equals a more immersive world, which makes more fun play! :-) If you believe there is another topic to be discussed besides roleplaying, please post a separate topic so we can address it. i would like this thread to address RP'ing specifically. Thank you everyone!

I want to make everybody aware that Trace is not asking as a player (perse) but rather as the newly appointed PR person for Layonara.
Yes, we do have a great RP community. He is just trying to find out how to make it better and to continue to make it better. As well as finding more ways to keep the RP players here.
-
I think it would be great for RP if there were milestones in PC's lives that were recognised with XP rewards or items specific to that particular character. I would like to see something that incorperates the character submission bio. Each player when they submit a character picks immediate goals (level 1-7) these goals would be something such as "become adept at tinkering, explore the area and RP some friendships" then at level 7 the PC would resubmit thier bio and state what goals they had accomplished. then short term goals (levels 8-12) and life long goals (Levels 12+ CDQ events) when a player resubmits thier bio to update accomplished goals they could be awarded XP, or other otions that probably belong in a different post.
My favorite time with the RP here was once when I was in the red light caves with a couple other players and the guard came looking for a wanted PC, we RP'd a little standoff with the DM who was running the guards and we all had a great time.
My most memorable RP moment was an hour long soul revelaing with another character as we sat and tried not to freeze on Barbarian isles :) *grins* ahhh... good times.

Gonna Sticky this for now, for ya Trace.
Welcome to the Team.

1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
-To me...this comes down to one thing...older players reaching out to new players. When more established players offer aid to new players, or even engage them in conversation...they immediately feel involved in the world. From there, they will do the same for others. OZY did this for me and I credit him almost completely with helping me feel involved in the world. *claps and cheers wildly for Ozy* Because of this, newer players seek out older players and talk about them amongst themselves. Legends are born, that endure forever.
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
-When I saw the world in Version 2 I nearly fainted. It was incredibly beautiful. After I saw the first sunset and full moon in V2, I knew i would stay there forever.
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
-One of my first characters was walking with a friend from Fort Llast when night fell. It was during the time when shadows were attacking after nightfall. My friend and I saw a beautiful lady standing at the edge of the road to Hlint. She looked very vulnerable and alone. She also radiated an aura of power yet kindness. She asked if we would escort her to the town. As we walked toward Hlint, shadows attacked. Shadow Knights and worse came after the Lady, and my friend and I fought nearly to death. We eventually made it through the gates, bringing her to safety. She thanked us and left, and it was only then, we realized we had just saved Queen Alurial! That was an amazing experience!
I appreciate your comments. I love this world and all of you who are a part of it!

V-O-T-E...You know you want to...hehehehehe

I added the "complimenting each other" choice because I, when it happens, get a really huge kick (even better than the xp reward I got once or twice) when someone just sends me a tell saying "That was huge, man. Thanks" or something like that. Just a nice clap on the shoulder for complimenting what you are doing is usually what keeps you going. You know it from work, class etc. Motivation! :)
-
Good thinking trillex, I agree this goes a really long way.
-
I loved that! Thank you for adding that option. I agree that the times I have received compliments have been some of the most fullfilling moments for me. Thank you for the input. I am looking forward to more! -Trace
-
I agree with trillex, receiving compliments lets us know we are in the right way, aswell as if we did good. Motivation is something really good and makes us do wonderful things. ;)

I put in the originality poll.
The reason? Layo is original. It's not the same dried up thing that you can log onto gamespy and see a dozen of like nordok or lotr or anaphillia or dragonlance. It's original. The plot is original, the characters are original and diverse, the landscaping and haks are used in originality (yes there are rips and credits and cep things in there but they're used in different fasions than what you see)
To me, it's the players being original that are the biggest kick. All of the older players here already know they're hero's, the mid-levels like myself know we're becomming the hero's or already are the hero's, and both of those groups know that the new players and low levels are the next generation of hero's to come.
The other degree of originality I'm trying to poke at is how the characters are played. Dwarfs are your original dwarfs, clerics are your original clerics, your paladins are your original paladins, you've got your stupid orcs, you've got your drunk dwarfs, your annoying gnomes, your mischevious halflings, your snobby elves, and your up-tight humans. You don't have everyone clamoring towards becomming an epic monk palemaster wizard that can let fly with issacs walk around owning the place and flashing his dire mace because it has a cool evil glow.
The way people put so much effort and time into developing their characters even without a cdq is phenominal and should be encouraged. Back when I played Toman alot, I made him into a leader for the friends I made. Someone they could look up to who was good for a laugh, who was the kind of guy who got along with nearly everyone be it a priestess of corath to a paladin champion of toran and sit them both down for an ale and have them walk out patting backs.
Romance, dispair, hope, courage, bravery.. all of that exists here. It's the fundamental part of what needs to be nutured more than anything. Keep that originality here and special to layo.
I know one of the defining moments for my character was when I announced to my friends I was going to try become a shadowdancer with Toman. I started leaning him towards mr mysterious, still keeping the care free pranks going with scaring people, all the way down to straight out invulnerability mode and threatening someone for something. I got comments ranging from "wow, amazing" to "I hate you so much" Yet I kept kicking at it, and I turned those comments around to my friends. Tactics, hey man do this, the accent, heh, Toman sounds so much like an aussie/scottish cross and reminds you of a crazy irishman it's not even funny.
Keep that originality flowing, not everyone needs to be the "perfect" person and not everyone plays it. The fact that people are willing to build characters with faults, willing to build them with strengths, and mash both of that together in their own styles is what makes the rp shine here and what needs to be nurtured more than anything.
Keep that aura about yourselves, people like Ender Sai make me wonder just what he's going to do next, he's so quiet, so rougish, yet when you get him to talk it's like he's just a normal guy. Someone like Chanda ms evil, holding that aura of command, someone like lueanne with her carefree halfling way, down to triba telling people they're goofups and about her epic ox rags, even to a lowly new player like Mhoram playing a guy who has no clue about anything, willing to learn, eager to try anything, and very susceptable should the right words be said.
Heck even the things that 8-bit did when I first met his cleric char, the stuttering, I didn't know if I should cast to help, stay as far away or try become friends, then switching to key, man what a style change, it blew my socks off and made me take a look at both my characters and see something in them that I could emulate.
Encourage the emulation as well, take bits and pieces of how several people play their characters and make it your own.
I was shocked when I saw brisbane kill a dire boar, my idea of a druid was to try my best to avoid killing animals, then she explaind it was dire, not natural, ect, a completly new way I saw to emulate into a druid of my own style should I ever make one.
Nurture the originality, encourage it, throw the comments at people complimenting them for their originality for their style, their flare, and for their dreams. Don't quash it under rules and regulations, if you see someone doing something they shouldn't, rather than nail em with a tell, hit them with it in char and see how they rp it back at you. Then compliment them in the tell for handling it and explain why you did it. Model it that way and you'll see a lot less frustration and I can almost guarentee you that they'll pass it on in a similar fashion. Sugar over salt, keep the originality.
My 2gp and thanks for reading the long post. Sorry for the essay.

1. This is the toughest question of the three. I can't think of anything better than what you all are doing as it is. When something comes to mind I will let you know.
Edit: remembered something- Sometmes on larger quests (with a lot of players) I feel lost. Like it didn't matter if I was there. Usually when there were more than one type one personalities taking charge. This is a tough thing to, do but more smaller quests suited for a smaller number of players would be nice. On the large world changing events the little guys are a little left out, maybe rightly so. (remember I am really diving deep to find something wrong with Layo)
2. I must say the rp. This is my first RP experience and I never knew what I was missing. When I finish a quest and feel I made a difference it feels good. When it feels like I was just tagging along it isn't as satisfying.
3. Once I was helping some folk get to the bottom of the cyrpts in Hlint we noticed some more difficult creatures were comming at us. I wasn't at a stage where I culd easily stroll to the bottom and we wern't sure if this was a gm or what. It eventually ended up being a gm spot quest and we faced a Lich. I died and the Lich proposed a deal to the other players to raise me for one of their souls. It was fuun sitting there dead watching what they were gonna do. Good rp. (thanks Rhiz)
Hope this helps you out, now I am late for work so I am not going to spell check. Sorry ;)

Trace, some good options there. Thumbs up on this poll! It obvious what option I have chosen as my third one ;).
Looking at the discussions from past week and this poll it seems like I’m not the only one with things on my mind. So let me put down my thoughts although it may be misplaced in this thread, if so accept my appology. Also I’m not very good with words and my English is not supperb so please forgive me if some things appear a bid harsh or you feel that this turns into a rant.
The reason why I joined this world was because of the planned DM events. It allows me to fit my private schedule to the game. My playtime being from 7 GMT – 10 GMT and on average spread across 1 or 2 evenings a week. Because of these limitations my characters have little IG friends who happen to be online at the same time/evening I do, also I don’t want to harrass them with tells when they are on. Therefore I spend a lot of time in the areas around Hlint in order to find other characters/IG friends. Some evenings though I’m unsuccesfull and going out on my own becomes frustrating fast since none of my characters are capable to last long. To be honest people spread out across various serves isn’t helping either. And I’m not interested to spend several hours in CNR on my own, playing offline will probably be more satisfying and less frustrating if I was left with only that option (which is often not the case here).
What I want to say with this is that what you can do as a player is very limited since you cannot influence the real life restrictions of timezones, when players are on and when not, etc. and you can not influence the world around you.
It’s from this experiences/thought that I voted for more cooperation from the player base focussing on RP and more spontaneuos GM quest from GM assigned to do these type of events.
One solution to solve this dilemma in my view is to create a/multiple GM position whom’s goal it is to provide real mini (30 – 45 mins) events to emerse a wider playerbase into Layonara, probably running events seperate from the plotlines. Héck, if such a position is offered I’m sure I will apply although I have no experience with D&D and the DM client and therefore I assume changes are very slim it will happen for me. Also I have very limited knowledge of the plotlines but then again that can be a plus. To be blunt I think it would even give me more satisfaction while playing this game and I hope this will be visible for the other players in my limited online time.
Better place?
Trace mentions the older players guiding the new. I would like to say that any player guiding another would be a better option. For instance by concentrating all the low level quests in, for instance, a place called ‘New adventurers inn’ or something pretty obvious. And make the ‘inn’ quests in such a way that you first have to solve one quest before going to the next one offered in the inn. Even keeping the XP/gold reward very low because the quests there are used to get to know the world around you a little better and that should be worth something.
If you feel like guiding someone around you just wait for the first person to step out of the inn and ask him if he needs any help. It will probably not last long before you find yourself a partner for the evening, introduce him to some other character, the area around Hlint, the major roads out of town, etc.
One of the moments I remember very well was when I received the XP for joining, but leaving early due to sickness, one of Sakura’s quests. He/she rewarded me the XP 4 weeks after this event while I had forgotten about it already. The problem however is how to keep these players involved in RP in this world.
My favorite moments are many. Every evening were I RP with a new character or learn something new from my IG friends I go to bed with a smile on my face. But also the moments I could join the ‘twin sisters’ series and when I found out that several IG friends where hit by the soul venom eventhouhg I couldn't be part of it myself because of these timezones, still it made my characters feel part of this world.

First of all Congrats Trace!
Now...
1. GM improvisations! I know I am fairly new at this GM thing but it amazes me the difference it makes to a party or even individual PC's if suddenly something changes for them from the regular spawns and npc's on layo. I have lost track now how many times I have done something small with a party and suddenly it spawns this great tirade centered around this small event. I spent 45 mins with a pc the other day in the high forest because they killed a bear for its pelt. I created the bears mate who was angered by death of its mate but also saddened by it as well. The PC in questions RP was excellent and in line with the characters motivations which was enjoyable for them and also for myself.
2. WHich one do I list? There are so many and they happen again and again every day. A big one is people being interested in your character and where they are from. A lot of poeple are going for the dark mysterious, almost evilly type characters. Thats fine but what they dont realise is that RP for these is hard and to actually develop RP you limit yourself in this way to who is going to talk to you. The 'good' PC's are a lot less likely to RP or travel with you in these instances and thats going to limit your development chances at some point. People also forget their PC's background sometimes as well when RP'ing. The other day I saw a Paladin travelling with a Drow rogue who was not all that friendly. Why? XP not RP. On the whole most people however WILL RP their character exceptionally well and I love that about Layo!
3. There have been many but I think the best was my first CDQ with Tarradon....the whole thing! It was awesome..Too much happened to write it all here but trust me it was awesome! Oh and one more was praying to Rofirein in his temple in Point Harbour ages ago after a nasty event had just occured, being told by a GM to make a check and rolling a '20' Yippee! and having an avatar of Rofirein appear.. now that was pretty special and a good RP session.

1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
...i thank there is everything here you could need to RP, only thing lacking would be some of the other players... a polite reminder from GM to player or players to players would be to make shure to use words... i have noticed a few the say np or ty instead of no problem, of thank you, when i notice these i try to RP throuh them . Also, the people at the inn's or whereever else that say "welcome Taur'ohtar Tel' Daeie", they souldent say the chars name... that should be replaced with something like "Welcome mama/sir" ...but really i dont have much problem with the RP on this server.
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
What i like about Layo is the many different subclasses that are presented to us... that is really cool. I also love the different PrC's laid out before us as options. Another thing would also be the size of Layo, i have not even explored all of Mistone yet, as long as i have new places to explore ill be happy.
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
I thank one of my favorit RP moments was when my Dwarf Grom got into a slugging match with a dwarf named Bruenor Wildbeard, we had a disagrement so to simulate the fight we made str checks and con checks to see if we fell over... i would hit him... he would hit me... then after a few minuets we both haply skipped off to the nearby inn and drank ourselves stuped. I also loved the arm wrestling i would challenge people to commenly, like i challenged a half giant once... i thank i lost but is shure was fun...

This is my first role playing experience and i have to say that it has been very enjoyable. Layo is just a great world to be in, the gms are great..well at the least the ones that i've met. I hope to know them all in the future. On to the questions:
1) well i have to agree with etinfall about not being involved if there is a big party quest, but then again it can't really be helped. I think keep layo spontaneous..and a little unpredictable and i will keep on coming back.
2) The quests are just awesome. i've only been on a few but so far they have been very good. the quests alone would probably keep me coming back because again, you never know what will happen. the only time i didn't enjoy a quest was because i didn't feel like i was contributing since my level was too low, i didn't know it at the time until i went on the quest so maybe a warning if the quests are going to be in difficult areas.
Another thing i like about layo is the crafting. It is so satisfying to make something after all the time and effort you've put into it to acquire the skill to make the item. I like how there is so many crafts that you can choose from. It gives me something to do when i do not feel like fighting, since i need a break sometime from all the running around to get coins or gain xp.
I also like the fact that layo is a low magic type world and that gaining level is very difficult. i think the more time i spend to gain levels the more i can appreciate it when i actually get it. Also, it will help me to learn more about my character or maybe help me to decide where i want my character to go since i will not be thinking about getting to that next level all the time.
3) i have two experiences and both involved gms, each time i was going through an area that i knew fairly well about, the giants near fort hope and the broken forest. I loved it when the gms came and made me fear for my life because when your character has a chance to die, then you realized that their life is worth living and very precious. I mean life and death moments shouldn't happen every day, but once in awhile...lets just say it keeps it interesting. That fire giant and that mummy really scared me!
But my most memorable RP moment so far has been when i received some xp for good rping. the xp amount was trivial but the fact that i even received it made me feel good since it sort of made me realize that rping isn't that hard. it has made me strive really hard to stay in character more often and watch my speech patterns and really think now how my character would react in certain situations.
Well that's my experiences so far in layo, i've only been a player here for about 6 weeks and i hope to have many more memorable ones in the future! Keep up the good work!
-
First of all, for those who have blasted me for "leaving" Layonara, I will come back someday. After all, I still occasionally haunt these forums, don't I? ;-b
Secondly, I would agree with what Zhofe has said. Though I understand that a lot has been done to rectify the levelling problems since I disappeared (the death system in particular) it wasn't a lot of fun to be only able to log on for a small amount of time and feel like you weren't getting anywhere. That would scare people off, as levelling AND RP makes a game fun. Which I why I know I'll be back in the end, because while it's very easy to level on the game I'm playing now *coughworldofwarcraftcough* the sheer number of idiots that don't have any clue what "Arpee" is makes me want to scream. They have a tendancy of coming to the RP realms to peeve those of us who try to RP, I'm sure.
And if "Astroboy" runs past me again...
-
I wonder, are you allowed to PK in WoW? That would be nice, to have a mob of RolePlayers armed with pitchforks and torches, kicking those idiots back where they belong. ^_^
-
1. I dunno what would make a nearly perfect online roleplaying server better...
Maybe the fact that when doing quests and going trough events the "big people" could maybe listen
what the "little people" have to say a bit more....from time to time I've seen such neglance from the higher
people that it almost made me sick...
2. The time when I came to layonara with my first character Leanthar ran a quest about the lost elven library... Even tho I was very little sorcerer at the time the event was really memorable and very much fun and good RP'ing.....
3. My favorite moment was with Malakai...we were chatting in Hlint when dark elves started attacking us...and we finally tracked the dark elves to their source and we defeated the mage that was summoning troops trough
the mirror in the red light caves...The quest involved only Malakai and me but it was the best time I've ever had in Layo =)
-
I think some of us lower level character need quests to do, especially us wizards and sorcerers. It is hard for wizards and sorcerers to get started so we can get in groups with bigger players to get a chance to RP. We are extremely weak at low levels and cannot do some of the early quests ourselves. So I think it would be cool if there were more 1-7 level quests. :)
-
I think this is the case for any server:
RPing shouldn't be a way to level up. Rewarding role play with exp is like creating a second form of powergaming to some and a meaningless figure to others.
If you really want to reward those that RP well, you'll give them access to special areas, items, abilities (scrying, tracking and divining for example) and anything else that will add immersion into the world. I'm not sure if you do this kind of thing already, in fact you probably do, but if you do then I'm agreeing that it's a better reward than exp.
As an example, a wizard who has taken the school of magic 'divination' should be able to find something like a hag's crystal ball, which would allow them to view others via scrying (don't know if you have scrying or not on Layonara). If you already have the option to scry, the ball could perhaps penetrate some weaker protections against scrying. A more simple example would be a paladin going on a holy quest for their god and recieving a special, holy sword at the end of it instead of 500 exp.
-
I do remember someone who once had a crystal ball, however I don't think you can make items so they can actually "scry" to find someone. Usually you just RP with the help of a DM doing the behind the scenes work. Example: Look at this Crystal ball I found. I wonder if I can scry to find it's owner... blah blah blah *motions arcane passes n' stuff* (Then send a message to a DM asking for a spellcraft check and see if you can get a name, place, race anything outta him/her, usually works) ;)
-
You can script it to hover over another player when used. Scrying is possible, but I'll have to look up / create the script if you really want it.
-
Wait until you get in game and see how many scripts, timmed, on hit, on activation ect... we have. Man I still can't figure everything out. Though it would be interesting.
-
I haven't been online at Layo (or any NWN server) for awhile now but the points I see being made by everyone all are good suggestions. I especially like the suggestion for spontaneous gm situations. Everyone eventually knows what spawns where and they are prepared for it. Throw a curve ball now and again really does add some spice and gets new players thinking there are dms watching all the time. Just throwing out a single random encounter (a "fire and forget" monster) perks everyone up. It doesn't have to be an actual quest per se. A little variety in the "expected" monster diet goes a long way. Just my 2 coppers.
-
I know this thread is somewhat old, but being a relative newbie, I just ran across it, thought it was a great idea and wanted to give my two cents worth because I’ve found Layo to be a great experience.
First and foremost, I think it would be great to have more spontaneous DM-run quests. With a job, kids, and other stuff, it’s difficult for me to be online a huge amount of time to take in some of the larger and longer quests. I realize that’s my issue, but I do like the idea of having a DM occasionally change things around, bring a maiden (or gent) in distress for a short mission, etc.
This is especially important for new characters. One of the things I’ve found as I’ve tried other PWs before getting hooked on Layonara is that it can be difficult to feel like part of the world…there’s a sense that you’re not really part of any group, side, etc. and not up to speed on anything. Admittedly, that’s an integral part of any PW as opposed to say the official NWN campaign…the universe doesn’t center around us, and that can take some getting used to. But given the great opportunities that the DM run quests offer, and especially spontaneous missions, it would be great to give those new to the world just a taste of the various factions, evils, etc. For example, other than what I’ve read OOC, my character has little to no knowledge of the whole war going on, the hunt for dragons, etc. It would be nice to have just a taste – a smidgeon – of that in some fashion (or some other conflict) at the very beginning…if other PWs had done that, I might not be at Layo.
But I am, and the reason, frankly, is the number, quality and kindness of players. I’m not sure if Layo has just done a great job of p.r, marketing or what, but I’m continually astounded at the number of players on at any one time. Combine that with the quality of the world and story, and it’s a great experience.
I am especially impressed at the willingness of more experienced (or at least higher-level) characters to help out in any way, shape or fashion. In fact, sometimes, I feel like I need to shoo everyone away!! ;)
Luna, Klugger, Geir, Jacchri, Drake, and …..oh, that very nice couple who got engaged at the inn my very first time in Layo, what were their names?…They have all made me feel quite welcome (and everyone else, for that matter, in case I forgot somebody), and in the interest of complimenting others both on their rp and generosity, thank you. In fact, it’s when I hear some of the high level characters say stuff like “you know, this reminds of the time when we met at so-and-so and fought so-and-so” that I really love Layo. Because (a) I find out more about the world (e.g., High Moors, hags, etc.) and (b) it makes me want to be able to say that stuff too (“Sure, I remember the time we killed that balor and ya da ya da ya da”) …to have that connection, memory, etc with other characters…
Ah, well….I’ve rambled…thanks for listening
Imperious aka Ketzia

I look at these things simply. ;) (I'm a simple sort of guy) I'll answer the questions at the end ;) skip the guff in the middle if you are pressed for time and would rather get back to playing.
The World
The world is large play, performed in many different halls of a large theatre all rooms interconnected in some fashion.
The plot is free form on the small scale but there is an injection of story line from the directors as needed.
The players are the actors, the characters their parts.
The GM's are both the audience and the directors, stage hands, lighting, sound, behind the scenes people. These roles are taken on by the keener actors to some degree.
The players are also the audience to some extent.
Quests are scenes of a play where a directory pays more attention than usual.
As the play is mostly free form it is the characters and actors of them that have the most influence on the stories, only involving a director when needed or available as the theatre is very large and time is necessarily finite.
The actors (or players as they are sometimes called) will have a large influence in the level and quality of acting in the theatre in general, through their interactions with each other and with the directors.
The actors are paid in roleplay, items, gold, XP, lots of different things, this leads me to think about theatre balance...
The Actors
The theatre of Layonara is closed to the public, a small donation (a bio) is required at the door before a prospective actor is allowed access to the theatre. They are welcomed, depending on their time zone, by a variety of other actors through their parts in the grand play.
The actors do not know each others parts initially and in time, as the scenes allow, more and more information is relayed to the other actors (some of which may never meet the actor in charge of a part) as to the exploits of a particular character in the play are retold for the amusement of others.
Without the actors there is no play.
The Parts (characters)
Some parts are writ large upon the canvas that is Layonara, epic battles, world shattering quests, daring deeds. Others are but the smallest bit part with the chance to grow into much more with time and attention. As the story unfolds those parts interact sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly.
There are no great injustices in pay scales for the actors of Layonara, there are no overnight stars who suddenly have the funds, equipment and power to battle the demonic hoards despite being a terrible actor and only being around for a short time (power levellers). Things must be earned and developed here.
With merit based pay for the actors, the inequities of hollywood are, on the whole, absent.
Props
Layonara features crafting as a dominant force in it's economy. You too can make a better future for everyone, literally. The need for props is important in a play, in the case of Layonara the actors can use their parts/characters to work together for the natural resources available in the theatre in order to make their props. Along the way there will be extra props but of course they can be exchanged with others in the theatre and the actor's part is rewarded handsomely for their time and effort.
Sometimes a large group of parts are required work together to achieve certain resources for upcoming scenes, this takes time and most importantly cooperation from the actors responsible for those parts. With a common purpose in mind these free form actors are now working together to a common goal, they form social bonds, get used to working together and grow comfortable with one another.
Working together for a common goal makes for a healthy society.
The Lounge
When not actively engaged in the play, the actors get together in the lounge (forums)and swap stories, banter about the theatre, how the current plot lines are going, have a drink and put their feet up. This is important to them, they spend a lot of time in the theatre and really need to wind down or up again before heading back into the fray of acting. It’s a good place for the directors to let people know of what is coming up in the next few scenes in a broad sense and to let people know where certain special scenes are going to be performed.
Talk to people and they will talk back, that’s how conversations start.
What does it all mean
It means that you have what you need for a great RP server, all the ingredients are there for a great experience for all involved. The particular implementation that you have made works well when all the components are added to a sum. There are static quests and crafting to get the characters together. There are GM run quests for more targeted things to do and to develop the story as a whole.
Now I can’t speak for your GM’s as I’m yet to have any interactions but the level of good feedback on the forums is very encouraging. The players are keen and involved, always a good sign. There is an atmosphere of encouraging roleplay and encouraging partying.
You are asking for feedback and are genuinely interested in making things the best for everyone; this is also a very good sign.
1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
More roleplayers and more interesting ways for them to interact. Is there some way to get characters together that has not been done before, that people have to find out in game? Is there a new gem appearing, what is it used for? Has an enemy been spotted where it shouldn’t be, what does it mean?
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
The players and the characters, friendly people. High level characters that take the time to talk to low level characters.
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
Too hard to pin down yet, so much more to do. Needless to say so far my favourite moments have all been character interactions. ;)
(in no particular order)
Gloinar catching up with Gloin finally and following him around like a lost puppy dog to buy an iron hammer, eyes bulging at seeing inside his house.
Culling the lizard men in the swamp with Turor in the most lawfully organised party in history. Six characters formed up in a variety of fighting formations and everyone being berated for not doing it properly.
Having Araleth scare the bejesus out Gloinar by shape changing into a bear.
Gloinar stubbing his toe on his armour when he kicked it out of frustration for not being able to find any clay and having Araleth tend a very grumpy and ungrateful dwarf with a broken toe.
Making iron arrow heads with only a 5% chance of success o.O

Very very well spoken.
Bravo.

Layo is the first online server i have ever played on. And from what I have heard (from both people on this server and off of it) and experienced in game I could not have started in a better place. The RP here is amazing, and one day I hope to be at least half as good as some of the players out there.
That being said, I don't think there is too many effeective ways to encourage good rp. People who just want to hit areas up for xp are going to do it no matter what (i do it occasionally myself :( , but ive been getting better at resisting the temptations). I think the only real way we can have good rp is in the players hands. It is up to them to make characters that they can get caught up in and enjoy acting like their character.
As for experiences that have made me want to stay forever, just the long hours I find myself staying up just to have a good convesation with one of my characters good friends. The gm led events where you can rp you're character with the different NPC's (something I find real enjoyable). I have not yet had my own cdq, but I am looking forward to it immensly, since I have been on other characters cdqs. Above all this has made me want to stay forever, because the chance to have a quest built around your character is too good to pass.
I have a few favorite roleplaying moments in Layo:
That time when Jet, Rose and Vivian went up to Jet's place in the mountains. They Rp'd being incredibly cold, and I got to play the big tough guy who has lived in the mountains and is used to the cold. The whole ordeal greatly strengthend jet's relationship with both Vivian and Rose.
Another favorite of mine was when Ozy came up and licked the people standing next to me. This was fun and easy to RP because both my character and I were thinking "What the hell is he doing?!"
And the other one would probably be the moment Gloinar described in the swamps. It was awesome. We were like a well-oiled lizard killing machine by the time we got it right (which was just before we left according to Turor). I felt like we were a real adventuring party, because everyone had their roles in the group, and no one questioned them (although if they did I'm sure Turor would have left them in the swamps).

Good role play will encourage good role play. The only hard thing is starting good role play.
I think the important thing is to build strong character ties, though, this is a double edged sword. Good friends in character make a character alot more fun to play, but if the other player dissapears or something and the character is gone, it can leave a void.
This happened to Quin alot, luckily, not so much for Viv. I guess you just have to try and make friends, like in real life. That is what leads to good RP.

While Im new to this server, and havent been on long enought to really know what kind of RP happens here,or even if the dm's do anything here, (i haveent seen any yet but havent been on long) or how much and such, I will give some advice on how to foster RP.
First, is DM's. Dm's need to do few things, Initiate story that involve everyone, even if they are not directly involved in the story. How? first of all by use of the shout channel. People like to know what is happening even if they cant be involved. Shouts from dm's related to storylines give the server life. How to do this? grab a NPC or Boss type monster and have it say something, maybe something its just thinking to its self, maybe something its saying to one of its own minions. Anyway, moderate use of the shout channel by dm's will will get all the players on the server coming together trying to figure out whats happening. For instance: Dm grabs a orc cheif and says over the shout channel that they are ready to attack and destroy town X, lots of players hurry to that town, and start talking about how to properly defend the town from the immenent invasion. even if for some reason the attack doesnt happen, its brought everyone together in a common cause. Any way, DM's SHOUT A FEW THING, most players will love it :)
Another way dm's can foster a lot of RP is to have the dm controled npc feed the information to a lots of people, just jump around and tell a everyone the same thing, something to feed a storyline, then people will get to gether and start talking about it. Everyone may not be able to actually participate in "killing the Monster" but they will at least know there is a story happening, and come away with the fealing they were part of it. (note see above about the DM shout also).
Have both long term as well as short term stories, using the above. especially long term stories. Gear as much as possible toward the entire server, not just a few handselected indiviuals.
Ok, Now I know im gona get flamed on this one, but here goes. EVIL PC. The No EVIL PC,(and to a lesser extent No PVP) really stifles RP on a server. On other servers almost all, well Maybe ALL of the Really good RP stems from What EVIL PC's have done or do. Now, 99.9 percent of all my NWN characters have been Good, all of the meaningful RP has been generated by people playing Evil PC. With out the evil pc's everything seems to be along the lines of: How's it going Bob? Fine, and your self? Oh quite well. Nice day outside isnt it. yep is sure is. : and on and on with basicly meaning less dribble. Now with evil pc's creating stories for the good pc, and vice a versa, its essentually creates a entire server of people generating stories for everyone. Now I may have to start another thread on this with greater detail, and im sure im going to get flamed by some, but if you really want to have a roleplay server evil pc should be allowed. The other alternative is to have a large quantity of DM's all playing Evil Characters incognito, all out there stirring up trouble of the RP kind. Now even better yet, is to have both Evil PC working in concert with DM's controlling evil NPC. (note: I am not suggesting mindless PKing here, never really seen it on any NWN's servers anyway, yes, ive seen the occasional jerk, and even the occasional jerk be killed by someone but thats not what im talking about here. Anyway, ill have to post more on this as im sure its im gona get the "We dont allow Evil PC's and so on. With the PC screening application process, I really doubt there would be much of a problem anyway, but Flame away. I dont want to be a Evil PC, i just want to beable to RP with some :)
Well, anyway, on so many servers, if the dm's are on, most players have no idea that they are there. Quite frequently they are just shadowing their favorite players around, and as such most of the Rp is generated between PC's. Just give the PC's something to talk about, where its DM created or PC generated.

In all, rp for characters has very much rewarding, in that each character adds depth to the other characters around them. When starting out a great many are two dimensional, but in time I have seen a good many become three dimensional and even to the point of becoming real.
Perhaps getting to involved into the mindest of a character, but in some cases the consistency and depth that some players put into their characters has been convincing and even moving. Like a good fiction novel, sometime you want to stay online that extra hour just to see where the rp is going, like turing the page in your favourite novel.
There is but one aspect of rp I have seen that is so often overlooked. The quality of rp of your chosen race. The aspect of the feminine and the masculine of each race. An example, a dwarven male would be more enthralled in taking his battle axe in a fit of fury against a foe, while a dwarven female would be more than likely to hit the dwarven male with the flat of her axe atop the head for not getting a move on or she will do it herself.
Long-lived races behave too much like short-lived races to be believable.
There should be an incentive to rping your race more appropriately, not just towards a specific class or faith.
More development of the character races. Or, race specific quests. Each race has their own specific view on the threat of evil. In my opinion should not be the same as the human view of the threat. One aspect I think that should be explored.

hello!!! I'm very new here, to NWN in general, and of course have things I can say.. hehe!!!
1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
I came on knowing noone. There are cliques within Layonara that are hard to meet, even if they just started with you. Yes, I understand that people are friends, and are in RL. But, they start out again (ie: they decided to start a new character) and they are automatically friends in game with people that they knew before. Its hard to RP around that, since I haven't beem here long. Yes, I've been welcomed, and friendships are hard to earn. But a level one character being best friends with a level 10+ character that they met the night before is hard to swollow when you start out somewhere.
Oh, and as previously stated... It stinks leveling!!! just needed to complain about that one thing. I've been at the same level for 2 weeks now, and its difficult to find others my level to wander around with since they are all wandering around in thier previously made cliques (see above paragraph!!!)
And when it comes to doing a CDQ, I have NO idea who to ask for being the GM (DM... whatever) since I don't look it up to see who they are in game, and when they are on, or how to figure all of that out!!!
And since I don't know too many people on Layonara yet, its hard as heck to level!!!
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
Honestly, I don't know yet. I love some of the people here, and its fun to RP (although I do forget sometimes, sorry everyone for putting up with it!!) The places that I HAVE been are interesting, but its hard to move around by yourself. And since I have not met many people at my playing ability, I have found death many a time! But, the amount of time put into the characters depth is awe inspiring, and I can't wait for a CDQ or even my Epic to come, since I feel that it will change my character for better.
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
A group of us (all under level 9 or so) decided to travel to the greypeak mountains. We got slaughtered, but it was lots of fun, since I was actually in a large group of people and was able to interact. I find many RPing moments, but I'm a loner (good thing I'm a ranger) because of not knowing anyone, so most of my time is spent alone trying to find someone or something to do. But, there are so many people here that will help when you need it (finding your tombstone, for example!!!) that it seems is all the RPing I need
oh, and I was there when someone was a dog, and sniffed everyone... From previous posts it was Ozy, but I could be wrong, since it was like, my second time on and I hadn't started a journal (where I need to write everyone down, since I tend to forget names and faces!!!)
-
The one thing I hope we never see is a RPer of the Month Contest because this is too judgemental and could lead to lots of repeat favoritism amongst people/friends/older players/etc. As well, not everybody has a ton of time to play, so would you be looking of quality over quantity and just how much over another?
I think the set up is great...maybe some improvement over time but it seems good enough that there isn't and shouldn't be any great hurry. I think everybody RPs well.
The thing about stupid names, I agree about curbing them; however, it could be quite a judgemental and unfair process. One persons good name is another's nightmare or several people have horrible names but your is the tenth this week and so you can't have it.
Anyhow, did you know there is a character called, Giveme sum Moregems, or something similar? Give me a Break, is going to be my antitheses to him. I couldn't possibly take this guy seriously. Was the person who authorize smoking crack (I kid)? At least the name was good enough for a laugh amongst a few players.

I'm pretty new here, but i wanted to share my thoughts.
1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
the very first levels are very very hard, in both crafting and in adventuring. in away that's nice because i am sure that weeds out some of the folks who aren't willing to make that commitment to *a game* but it does make it very hard for those who are serious about sticking around long term.crafting is an essential part of this particular world. it's also the hardest part of the game to learn and advance. i've had the incredible pleasure of being able to bump into all sorts of personalities and events in the last two weeks.. weell in the last 4 days or so. it's enriched my RP experience greatly. unfortunatly do the abstract economy it's hard for the new and inexperienced Layo RPer to get started. we keep trying, but it can be like leaping a very tall brick wall... more contact then clearance. again i've been pretty lucky with players helping me out. i've seen others who weren't so lucky, who were litterally standing next to me. the brunt of the cure i think falls on your vary own RPers. When your goddesses' avatar shows up and says, "hey how are ya?" and later leads you to an event you have the option of jumping into with both feet? even if it's a good 10 levels above you? WOW. i suspect that was pure dumb luck. but just for clearance sake-- WOW. if i were to pick *any* thing to add... (Forgive if there are these set on the calander) more quests that are maybe short and geared towards the new guys. helping them progress their story lines and make connections is the best way to build a healthy enviroment. i co-lead a guild in another MMO, and this is a major part of our togetherness, by fostering a sence of communal need, and helping connections to form between players.
i just want to add that it was awesome that even tho i was obviously more of a tag-a-long then a helper in the afore mentioned event-quest, not a peep was made by a singer soul there, and they were quite friendly and made sure i had some RP part in the whole experience (sine my weapons and spells couldn't go very far)
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
i *LOVE* the people here. they are helpful in as much as they can be. they do it realistically for their characters, rather then just giving everything away for free, or any other action that might be against the grain of their RP story. I've met some folks on this server whom have made me want to stick around for a long time. between their RP ability, strength of character (i.e. not cheating etc), and willingness to go the extra mile. i've already mentioned to a few of my folks what i've been doing in my off time and encouraging them to come check you guys out!
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
my favorite? that's gonna be a toss up. 1) realizing the regulars in my character's sphere of influance were taking her seriously when i RP'd her with my story in mind 2) the most beautiful Heirophant change over ceremony Layonara will (hopefully) see in a very long time. there were peices that were so touching, from general player and epic player a like. i won't soon forget that event.

*clears his throat*
It is Gemme Sum Moregems!
Have you met this character in person? (Let’s not get too wrapped up in meta gaming) Have you read his bio? Are you familiar with the Deities of Layonara? Do you realize how people in the medieval times were named?
Don’t take him serious! He is not there to be taken seriously.
By the way, he is not there for YOU. He is there for ME. This is a game. I know some people get really involved and the ‘little’ things irritate them. This is a place to have fun.
And no, I don’t think that L, “The Man”, "The World Creator", this character's approver, smokes crack.
“Give me a Break” would be a good name for a Dwarven Barbarian. Maybe you should submit a bio.
-
I agree the comment you replied to was a little on the rough side Gemme. Character Approvers take into account the names and we saw no reason this would be out of sorts, and yes, play for your enjoyment above all, or else you shouldn't be playing.
Icurus, I've sensed your tone a little harsh in a couple of posts, it could be the internet barrier, however, dropping to references of narcotic usage are never productive.
I'm not one to censor, this is a good thread, keep it this way please.
-
I agree Orth. Gemme sum moregems could be the translation into common of the name from Gnomish or Svirfnebli or whatever the charachters race is. His name could actually be one of great prestiege amongst his tribe/community. To his people Grympint Bloodbeard could actually be the name they give the tribes/communities Fool or to them a name like Plenarius Ashley or Geddrin Swifthammer might seem like really pointless names. To me the only idiotic names would be ones like 'I R0x0rs' or '1337 0n3' etc etc, the rest like dumb as a stump or gemme sum moregems etc , no matter how wierd they seem, if done tastefully and rp'ed decently I say go for it.

1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
1. There isn't a lot that could really make Layonara any better than it is, without getting into specific nitty gritty stuff.
- Despite his age (and the wisdom gained through it), people do not take my character seriously, nor his opinions into account, because he appears as 'effortless' to people. I think the community of Layonara can expand it's greatness further by taking into account those of lesser level, and RPing with them, as well as taking them seriously. I like to think that my character has a great deal to offer the people of Mistone and Layonara over all because he has wracked up a great deal of experience just by being at places, and doing things. He isn't the most powerful figure in the world, but he has 'been there' and 'done that', and very generally does know what he is talking about. Many other lower level characters also have the same amount of wisdom through experience and are simply overlooked by those of higher and indeed epic levels.
This is not to say that it is the case with everyone, mind you. There are several noteables whom I have RP'd with over the past year as Turor who do not overlook him, and indeed do recognize his opinion, wisdom and exhistance. Ozymandias, for instance, is a very constant RPer that doesn't overlook the little guy really at all. Brisbane has had a run-in with Turor and it ended up in a delightful bit of roleplay. I think that the epic levels should stop for a day or so a week and just RP with the 'locals', get to know the new players, and enjoy everybody's commitment to the world and all the fun and talent that they do bring to Layonara.
- The drow that I have seen running around Hlint would be lynched and their heads would be stuck on poles outside any gate if the DMs had the time to be around more often. Visual paragons of evil shouldn't be running around without hoods, and I believe this was the feature of much debate about a year ago. I don't know how to put it, exactly, but I find their very insistance on showing themselves off to the common citizenry very unnervingly bold. The thing that people need to remember, I guess, is that there are commoners that we cannot graphically see walking about taking care of their daily business. Isn't Hlint like a village of 500 people or something? Rural communities such as Hlint have a tendency to be a bit more conservative when seeing something strange, fearsome, or in many cases what could be considered distasteful. Layonara is not a tolerant world, and racism is rampant, as would be the norm if there was a group of people with very distinct features that habitually commited heinous evils. Sure, judging by one's actions is a good defense, but the commoners, the farmers, etc etc would not be so inclined. I guess the populous needs to take that all into account.
You want to play some goodly Drizzt clone, that's fine, but you have to understand that in those novels, Drizzt is the victim of a great deal of discrimination, too, and actually has to work and do good deeds for the communities in order to be at least tolerated by people, and that the honest word of a friend really doesn't weigh in very much. And now I feel almost like I'm flaming, so I'm going to back off away from that topic. :)
2. I have had many experiences in Layonara that have made me come back time and time again, RL permitting.
The people are great, the DMs do their jobs affectively, and the lead designer takes a very active role in the transpirings of the world, without being as restrictive as a Commi might. :P (And believe me, I've seen absolute freedom in servers, and I've seen absolute control. Layo is a very healthy middle-ground)
I will admit, most of my favorite experiences involved Aleister (Synpox) and the world really just isn't the same without him here. It's a shame he got the short end of a rather short-to-begin-with stick.
3. My very favorite roleplaying moment in Layo... That is difficult to say for certain, considering I've had so many of them.
Perhaps chasing after Aleister with a greataxe, or playing cards against him those few times I won, or maybe when Turor set the outside of Al's house ablaze, much to the chagrin of the old mage, or perhaps it was when Turor dressed Acacea up like a dwarf and took her ogre mashing, sword, shield and armor style, 'the way eht ought ter be dun'. Of course, many of the quests I've been on have been wonderful, too, one in particular that I remember being the one where we all sat outside of that tower near Haven and yelled and screamed at the hostage taker. That was plenty of fun.
-
@Diamondedge - I would argue that Hlint is the one place where the only people who would be intolerant of Drow, Tieflings, etc would be new arrivals or those with established grudges against the race in question. As you said, it's been said before, and the verdict was the same. Hlint being the magnet for adventurers that it is, even the commonfolk are likely to take teleportation, vast displays of magic, and representatives of nominally evil races behaving well in stride. Kell wears a hood because of the reaction his features provoked in childhood - sooner or later, he'll choose to doff it, when he has the confidence and the pride to display his face openly.
As to the topic at hand:
1) As always, I'm going to push for Rogue benefits here - traps that fighters can't easily disarm in the "stick-disarms-bear-trap" method, doors that don't yield to force but have vulnerable locks, and the like. The inherent vulnerability that comes with being a Rogue ought to come with some IC benefits other than being a damage enhancer - particularly if that's not your RP style. And again, I'll plug for XP rewards for trap disarm, (this despite the fact that Kell has yet to disarm a trap) - my argument being that a trap, particularly a corridor-blocking one, is similar to an encounter. You can't get by it without defeating it or evading it, and if you attempt to defeat it, you run the risk of taking significant damage. Ergo - XP.
2) It's just the best-balanced of any of the game worlds I've played on. When new (and brief) players appear complaining that it's unlike WOW or UO, and whining that it needs to be changed to be more like them, I can answer in confidence that it is better - and be joined by all the other veterans here (many with far more time on-server than I) in that assurance. It's that simple.
3) This one was quite lovely. It was an RP-heavy session in the Lost and Found quest series. The team was facing an enemy who had just increased in power exponentially, and we were uncertain how, or if, we were going to deal with him/her/it. (You'd have to be there to understand the pronoun uncertainty.) A foolishly optimistic and notoriously stubborn priest (LG, naturally) decided to go with what Kell considered a tremendously foolish plan - waving a holy symbol in front of the demon and entreating the host to cast out its posesser. Kell was actually disappointed when the posessee staggered... his face changed... he reached for the symbol, put it on, started to cry.... and then as the priest moved to take the cursed items, the sobbing turned to laughter and the demon tore off the amulet and pocketed it. I could not have asked for better, and I actually laughed aloud. *grins*
-
YOU WERE LAUGHING TOO! HAR! Kell so was I, I was having a giggle fit. I actually did NOT want that to work OOC. I would've lost faith in life if it did...
Anyway Figured I’d take a crack at this:
1) What would make the world a better roleplaying place to be?
The only thing I could think of , would be something mentioned in the forums already: Switching around the new player NPC quests to give it a bit of spice. I mean, its funny to think that Reg lost her necklace again, Erag is planning the death of us all, and the little girl in Krandor is a vampire stuck in child form leading us all to our death, but…it gets a bit old after a while. Also, I’ve heard some mention the whole: Follow the Epic thing, and say that until you hit a certain level your input doesn’t count. While I did get this feeling sometimes, for me it was just a matter of getting louder. Okay, so sometimes it leads to stupid things, but at least people will recognize the name Rhynn and have something to say about it, even if its not so nice!
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
All of the off quest , non GM ran rping. We come up with some pretty interesting stuff even without the Gms around. Hlint has more drama than a high school hallway, and for that I love it.
However, The moment I found myself addicted to the game was my first GM encounter. Ice/Kea , I love you for it I really do. Scared the life outta me, seeing as I just saw a movie where videogame characters come out of the computer and kill you, but it was an awesome experience and from that moment on I knew I was hooked.
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
Last Friday on the Exploring The Past quest run by Nova. The pirates had killed off our ships Capitan and crew before we could kill them. The result was a voiceless Rhynn steering and navigating the ship with the help of an awesome crew, Thos the fairy screaming at everyone, Celgar hanging upside-down from a mast or sail or something, Lucius was somewhere and it was painful, Kyle had an “accident”, and a Halfling caught a falling flying half orc before reaching safety.
-
Having a background in performance management and behavior analysis, all I can say is you get what you reinforce (ie Reward). If most rewards come via quests, you'll get alot of questers. They'll do everything they can to prepare and be ready for, and be the best in the next quest, to maximize the amount of reward they might recieve. If you reward role playing, be it inside or outside of quests, you'll get roleplaying. The issue here becomes is when do you want roleplay to occur. If you want it to occur evenly within and outside of quests, then you need to make the rewards somewhat comprable to each other. If you want it to occur more in one situation than the other, then you need to increase the rewards on that end.
Personally, I think if you really want to increase innovative roleplay, then the best option is to increase the frequency in which roleplay is rewarded outside of quests. I think that you'll find more variation amongst character profiles and types as well as more focus on character development.
Not that I'm sure that some of this doesn't exist already, but you'll be increasing the occurance of this.
-
1. What would make the world a better RP (roleplaying) place to be?
Make it even better? I wonder if there is a way to make it better. I guess there are options but I can't think of them right now. sorry.
2. What experiences have you had in Layonara that have made you want to stay in layo forever?
To many to name. but all of them are based on the players I play with nowadays and the rp they and I are in I just love it. I actualy didn't think I would still be rp-ing becasue i'd love to get my character to the next lvl for lost of reasons. on of them being the cdq's I would finaly be able to do. and the second one is the new spells she would be able to get. the cdq would by the way be a way of getting her to follow her a certain path in life.
3. What was your favorite Roleplaying Moment in Layo? (if different from question 2)
It happened not to long ago. My character Sonya darsus. was going after her husband Rain who was doing something stupit. I'm not saying to much about the event it self but it was all a great moment of rp and made even better by the sudden xp i got while just sitting there and rp-ing or in my words doing what came up in my head and looked like the best way to act for my character. I'm not sure who gave it but I wanna thank him\\her. I found out by asking Rain darsus that it was because of the good rp. I'd never thought i'd get that award. never even knew it was there.

Yep. I think it is first of all who you Rp with that makes you want more. I know for a fact that I love rping with what we call teh Family. (the angels guild: Dalan, Daniel, Dora, Elgon (RIP) Ferrit, Jako, Kyle, Me, Mercas and Sonya ), Barion sa'k Jil and a few others. We have grown a lot and have seen each others grow into our characters that When Elgon Merrick Permed it was truly a hard time for many of us IC and OOC. At a point you have to make a separation of what is game and RL but with some people you just cant and get attached alot. I know that for some my char may seemed a bit much, but I do it like this cause I know it is entertaining for those I rp with. To have the Dm say that he was on the edge of his seat from west to were we where was a treat ( i kinda felt he/she was sad that he had to leave and not be able to follow the rest of it).
Next step i think would be to have more dm led quest. I have checked out this months quest and sadly I can only attend one.
Eh! I even had a blast when I jumped a bunch of mercs near fort hope and got slaughtered, by the leader of the mercs, Ok the Griffons didnt help either, but his axe. ouch!!. The Leader half orc came to My player and started to loot him. (http://../images/emoticons/surprise.gif) But fortunatly some good samaritains and the person I was going to reach in Hampshire passed by and anihilated them. Twas only a few moments later that I was raised and started to Rp Losing my prescious bow. Made by Elgon Merrick. Then again the Dm must have liked it as we received a little gift.

I agree that more High level characters should mingle with the lower levels.
As for the drow issue, well, you could read about 5 pages about that in the general discussion thread from last month.
As for improving it - in my case it would have to be more quests in the Aussie time zones. Frequent and random GM interaction and miniquests. Actually I would rather small spontaneous GM surpirses that can open the mind to great RP options. Most of the larger quests are too hard for many to attend.
Best moments - well I've had so many. Probably plotting with my fellow Corathites for hours on end. Breaking the marriage of Lalaith and Veldrin plus all the follow-on from that. Ahh, and most of all the Black Hand quest from Dezza which led to my CDQ.
Generally though I enjoyed making everyone hate my PC, and the many arguments he had with so many people out there.
Cheers,

There are unfortunately different thoughts about this one. I for one love them and I'm fine with whatever happens on them. But...
Sometimes when people dies on spontaneous quests, the DM gets blamed. "Really" blamed. I can only guess that it's very, very dishearting for them when they in the first place only wanted the players to have fun.
That's what I think is the main reason you don't see all that many spontaneous DM quests being run.

I love small, spontaneous interactions. Unfortunately, sometimes PCs die when you're speaking of combat oriented spontaneity. I would suggest, however, that if you suspect a GM has a hand in whatever is going on and you do die... don't reflexively hit that respawn button. Give it some time and wait for help. There may be an RP way to bring the character back or he may not be completely dead. Because, as we all know.. sometimes you're only MOSTLY DEAD.
