Title: A Letter to the Hammer of Dorand, Shoufal, Mistone
Post by: regnus on April 19, 2005, 08:55:00 PM
*In neat handwriting*

Dear Hammer of Dorand,

I have come to the small town of Hlint.  I was on my way to the temple and found myself in a dream.  It was so real though.  I talked to a dragon!  He summoned me to the dream to join the fight against Blood.  I had no choice but to join the fight.  As you know, I feel as if Dorand has a plan for me and I must have been brought here for a reason only he knows.  He must have a task for me to complete here and I intend to do it.

When I arrived in Hlint I talked to several of the residents and they were in need of assistance.  I humbly offered my assistance and got several tasks to complete.  I will not go into the them here suffice it to say that I have been busy for the last few days and will continue to be busy for a while.

*the writing here becomes very sloppy.  It seems to be written by someone else.*
Rats!  There are rats everywhere!  I am underground again and it is dark.  Dark and I am surrounded by rats.  They are watching me.  Always watching me.  Always watching and waiting for me to fall.  They will tell him where I am and he will get me.  I have to run.  Always run and be safe.  He will never find me!  NEVER!

*the writing here is very neat and flowing script.  It seems to be written by someone else.*
Hlint has a public crafting house!  I will make use of it every chance that I get.  It doesnt match in any way the crafting halls of the temple, but it will be enough.  I will hone my craft and make the crafting house of Hlint famous for the glory of Dorand.

*The writing returns to the neat handwriting*
The voices in my head persist.  I sometimes lose myself and then later realize that I have been speaking back to them.  I think some of the people of Hlint have fallen victim to my voices as well.  There are some that give me strange looks as I walk by.  I have been reciting the prayer that you have taught me.  It seems to help quiet the voices and calm my mind.  I pray to Dorand that he can quell these thoughts that plague my mind.

Dorand forge this mind and body so that I can do your will
Dorand guide my hand so that I become your Hammer
Dorand perish these thoughts in your fire
Dorand bless these hands so they may do your work and praise your name

*the last part of the letter is in a hard and deliberate hand.  The paper is nearly punched through with each letter written*
I dont know who will read this nor do I care but if writing this down will help then I must try.  I must get these voices out of my mind.  They hold me back from doing what needs to be done.  One of them is constantly praying to someone named Dorand.  It pains me when he prays and I have to sleep afterwards.  One of them seems to be a child.  He is constantly crying and thinks that someone is after him.  I have to yell at him all of the time to be quiet.  I dont need the people in this town thinking that I am weak.  I AM NOT WEAK!  I find myself hanging around the crafting house here.  I get these thoughts in my head and find myself in front of the forge.  I do not know how I arrived there or how long I sat and stared.
This town is an excellent training ground for my purposes.  I will have my revenge!

*the writing again returns to the neat handwriting*
Dorand help me.

May your Hammer always ring true,
Dargos Nai Runedar

An robed acolyte accepts a letter from a courier and reads the name on the envelope.  He recognizes the writing and hurries into the temple.  He pushes past the other acolytes in the hallways and yells apologies back to them.  The ring of hammers sound throughout the temple as the acolyte knocks on the door to the office of the Hammer of Dorand.  The door opens and the acolyte is unable to suppress his shock.  The Hammer of Dorand himself has answered the door.

"Yes my child?"
"Uh....I...."
"Come now, child!  There is work to be done.  What is it?"

The acolyte realizing that his mouth was still open, closes it and quickly speaks.
"I have a letter, Hammer.  It is from Dargos."

The Hammer of Dorand's face changes immediately to one of concern.  He takes the letter from the acolyte and turns into the office.
"Thank you, child.  Close the door."
The acolyte stands there for several seconds before he shakes his head and pulls the door closed.  Inside the office the Hammer of Dorand opens the letter carefully.  He pulls the letter out of the envelope and begins reading the letter.  He smiles as he starts to read.
"Good.  Dargos is safe"

He continues to read and the further he reads, the more concerned his expression becomes.  He mutters under his breath.
"Dorand guide Dargos and watch over him.  He is in desperate need of your aid."

The Hammer folds the letter and places it back in the envelope.  He unlocks a small box on his desk and places the envelope in it and locks the box again.

Dear Hammer of Dorand,

I have been busy of late.  There are many jobs that need done here in Hlint and I have been quite proficient at getting them completed.  I can feel myself getting stronger.  Dorand is guiding me.

*the handwriting shifts to a nice, flowing, elaborate script*
I have begun crafting arrow shafts out of the the wood that I have gathered outside of Hlint.  I succeed in creating usable arrow shafts more often than I fail.  Tindul, indeed.  If they could see me now....

*The handwriting abruptly changes here almost mid-sentence to a very heavy and deliberate hand*
Tindul?  How dare they?  I will show them.  They will not know until the end that it is I who is orchestrating their demise.  They all will pay for what thye have done to me.  All will pay

*the neat handwriting continues*
The people of Hlint are very accomodating.  Many are here that have been called by the dragon so there is a comraderie much like that of the temple.  Most are more than willing to offer their assistance.  It is refreshing to see that there are good people in the world today.

May your Hammer always ring true,

Dargos Nai Runedar

P.S.: I continue to pray to Dorand when my mind is at odds with itself.  The prayers are working but the voices in my head are getting stronger.  I continue to look to Dorand for guidance and follow the path he has set before me.  Do not worry about me Hammer.  Dorand will watch over me.

*In a heavy hand*

I was harrassed today by a dwarf who had the nerve to call me 'brother'.  I can say with no mistake that I am not a brother to that dwarf.  He will pay like the rest for their crimes against me.  I am growing stronger every day.  I can feel my power growing.  These voices in my head persist however.  It seems as if I am in a dream at times and watching myself through my own eyes!  My head aches when the voice starts to pray.  I close my eyes from the pain and when I open them again I find myself somewhere else.  I dont know how I got there or how long it has been.

I must focus.  I will make it back and make them all pay.  I look at myself in the mirror sometimes.  I know I shouldnt but I do it anyway.  It reminds me what they took away from me.  It hardens my resolve.

*The last line is written so hard that it tears the paper in spots*

I will not rest until they get what they deserve.
