Title: Pangs' thoughts.
Post by: Vyris on May 13, 2005, 07:22:00 PM
Hlint is a strange town, so many different people come through here. I have made a few coins performing my dance outside the temple of Ilsare, I was somewhat relieved to find the guards leave me be, and I saw the quartermaster tapping his foot to the rythm of the bells I wear while dancing, it makes a most beautifull song.

I was escorted to the next town by a fellow today, though he did not know of it, I followed him in stealth to make sure that the way is clear, it is a town called Haven. along the way I saw sand and clay deposits, I may be able to fashion some things out of those componants and perhaps craft some traps for myself. The insects that Fring used to harvest for me to make my blade-flame are much tougher than I remember them, perhaps a hardier, norther variety.

I've often thought that some of my dancing manuevers and routines must have had a more martial origin than an entertainment one, today that presumption has proven correct. I was exploring the area north of this strange town of Hlint, and was happily suprised to find a field of wild cotton. As I worked my way through the field I heard a loud grunting noise and, to my dismay, spotted a large Orc walking my trail and sniffing the air.

Well I crouched low and moved slowly threough the plants to the edge of a cliff where there is a large tower and hid inside untill I was sure he was gone, but it seems I should have waited longer, for when I emerged out into the rain the beast was nearby, waiting to pounce!

I fended several of his blows and found myself falling into the rythm of his attacks, then in a flash of inspiration I began to dance, my blade deflecting his blows with ease, and lashing back with my rapier as I twirled. Soon enough another fellow happened along and filled the brute with arrows, dropping him. I thanked the kind man and he commented on my 'fighting style' I had never though of my dancing as such, but it definately bears looking into.
This is a dangerous place I've come to learn, but the people seem friendly, and all seem to have enough coin to place a few in my plate when I dance... so I will start looking for some more permanant shelter.

I'll be incorperating another blade into my combat routines soon. I have danced with two blades for years, but never has my life been on the line if I fumble or get out of rythm, so I have decided to wait untill I perfect thi new skill before adding this to my every day practice. Perhaps I will start first with a dagger, and progress next to a rapier.

So many interesting people today, but three in particular stand out quite distinctly in my mind, The dirst is a dark skinned elven woman, I believe she was a Drow, but, she didn't seem to know that she it if she is? Her name is Annun. The second, another Drow, is named Owen. I found him amonst a large group of fellows along the road betwixt Fort Llast and Hlint. It seems he is a bard, for at the least mention of music he bnegan to play and sing, and I to dance, it was quite wonderfull!
The third is named Gulnyr, a dwarf of considerable skill, he instructed me in some of the finer points of tailoring. In the process he crafter a wonderous pair of batskin gloves for me. We continued to speak at length, of tailoring and languages. I taught him one of my uncles old lymerics... but I don't think it translated well to Dwarven... it seemed there was some slang in it that he didn't quite understand. I juggled my blades for him and it felt nice to perform for someone impromtu like that, we talked of dancing, and the difference between dancing and fighting.
My head hurts from too much dwarven spirits and a late night of laughing and talking, I should be off a'bed.

Oh How I hooted and chuckled today!!

I was on my way to the craft hall, a heavy load of clay in my pack and drenched from the constant rains that seem to be a part of this area of the world, I was in a foul mood as I entered Hlint from the east gate. I was struggling to pull my stupid Ox through the muck and mire when the stench overcame me and I nearly vomited. I looked around to see at least a dozen oxen staked out around the craft hall, and thier accumulated waste was turning the place into a stockyard, I stopped, in dusgust, and thought of what I could do about it.

Well.. for a few minutes I added my ox to the problem, staking her near the gate, and took my belongings to the tinkers forge to set up for making molds for Gulnyr. As I took a good look around I noticed that there was only the furrier, the fellow who makes arrows and myself in the building. This made me even madder at the oxen stabled outside, so I resolved to do something about it!
I stomped outside, definately full of myself and looked around for a likely spot and settled on the shop of that miserly dwarf... nearly 3000 coins for a bronze blade indeed... who does he think HE is fooling, not ME! A target in mind I gathered the tethers to a pair of the abandoned oxen and led them to the shop, then tied them down to his bench, I repeated this process untill thier was fully a dozen oxen staked right in front of the old codgers shop, then as it happens he came out, walking one of his *sepoorge customers to the door. The looks that crossed his face! OH! it was priceless, then to see him out slipping in the dung and ox urine on the muddy road in front of his shop nearly made me wet myself from laughing so hard. Oh... I shall have to remember that prank for some time to come. Even now my face hurts from smiling for hours afterward.

*Sepoorge is a word used by Pangs' gypsy tribe to describe city folk, it has alternate meanings such as soft, foppish, lazy. Stupidity is implied in all meanings.

I took the day to craft some molds for my dwarven friend, Gulnyr, and I am glad I did!
I spent several hours at the tinkets forge baking the small molds he needs, and practicing my dance in the deserted craft hall. The weather outside has been raining and chilly, a quite miserable day to be sure... there is a sense of foreboding in the air, and a heavy feeling of dread hanmgs over most of the people I run across.
Once I finished my dancing I left the hall and slogged through the muddy streets of Hlint on my way to the smithy near the bank. I was nearing the inn when I saw a large group of citizens braving the foul weather to hear someone speak. There I found Gulnyr and he quickly brought me up to speed on the events that were being discussed, it seems as if a green dragon had been slain, and though just rumors, many were disturbed at the news. There was much talking of the madman Bloodstone, and the evil witch Milara, and soon a party was formed to go to through Rilara to investigate. I did not accompany them, though Gulnyr did.
Perhaps when I see him next he can share his experience with me.

I think I shall go dance some more, and clear my mind.

I spent much of the day today on Dregar with Gulnyr. We had heard some awful rumors of Bloods forces, and went to the city of Lorindar to investigate further. Once there we were struct at the militarization of the town, soldiers marched in the streets and took posts at every pier, gate and street corner.
We questioned one of the guards and he directed us to Pranzis, where in short order we were both inducted into the Pranzis home guard, and assigned as scouts. A fitting job for Gulnyr and myself I suppose, at least I wasn't expected to don some metal suit and go stand on a parapet somewhere.
Our first assignment was a lot more complex and dangerous than we had anticipated, we enlisted the aid of a likely pair that Gulnyr seemed to know and were led on a not-so-merry chase from south of Pranzis to a place far north of there that Gulnyr referred to as the "Cave of the snake". It seems we stumbled into the scheemings of one of Bloods Generals, and our information seemed to be quite valuable when we reported back to our captain once we returned to Pranzis.
I did little dancing, and my arrows were largely innefective, I had hoped perhaps to be issued some better equipment, but these are hard times, I'll have to make do with what I can purchase on my own.

Gulnyr and I scouted much of Dregar today, and I was bitten by a huge Malar beast, a most grievous wound to be sure! I had managed to outrun the undead assassin that accompnied the beast, but the cats great speed outstripped me, and I fell to its teeth and mighty claws, definately not a creature I plan to dance with again for the forseeable future.

We had gone to Dregar to report to our scout commander in the castle at Pranzis, but were unable to find him in his quarters there. So, rather than call the day a loss we took it apon ourselves to scout the area, as that is our general purpose within the Pranzis scout corps. We traveled north through the serpent mountains, seeing much evidence of Bloods preparations near the great rift, and the areas of the Anaroch desert. We traveled back through North Fort and made our way back to file a report before taking ship back to Mistone. I was glad for the experience, and for Gulnyrs patient tutelage. Though I did no dancing today, I learned many things regarding stealth and cooperation amongst scouts.
